Remus Lupin was used to sneaking out of his dorms over the full moon, so good at it in fact, he was positive none of his friends would notice he'd gone, but as he sneaks back to the dorms just after the sun rise, he gets the shock of his life. “Where have you been, Remus?” James Potter, one of Remus's best friends, was never stupid, but now Remus must decide whether he wants to keep his secrets, or his best friends.

While on vacation with Sirius, Remus has to learn how to live in the moment for the dark days ahead.

After the attack on Hogwarts and Dumbledore's death, Tonks has finally shaken some sense into Remus. He's given into his feelings for her, but how much of him does she really have - and is it enough? Tonks realises that not only does she want more, now, she needs more. Is he ready?

Sirius ponders the last twelve years and the current times after one of Remus's transformation.

The holidays have only allowed him to remember the pain and loss of the previous year, though he tries desperately to forget those memories. But as a fresh blanket of snow has covered the ground, he decides to take a walk to clear his mind, and at the same time, he decides to take a chance; he allows himself to just remember.

Lupin's thoughts before he leaves Hogwarts at the end of Harry and the others' third year, as he reflects over his students and over his own days at Hogwarts.
