A flash of sunny light suddenly greeted his eyes, and shortly after wondering why, Remus Lupin woke up. The sunrise was creeping through the windows of the fifth year Gryffindor boys' dormitory, and though exhausted, he leaned up a little to look at it. As he looked at the morning light, he felt happy and relieved. A feeling he wished he could say he consistently had. The only time he could remember feeling continuously carefree and joyous was during his early childhood.

Once upon a time I was a young boy

Without doubt or worry on my mind

And everything in life seemed just so easy

'Cause everything was going well and fine

But then, of course, he had become a werewolf, acquiring not only a non-declinable choice of becoming a wolf every full moon, but responsibility, maturity, and the classification as a beast. Remus wondered what the odds were. He had found out that both his first and last name related to wolf, and now he was one. How ironic was that?

One night the moon was full and I was bitten

And everything I knew had changed so fast

Then years of living painful transformations

There's just one thing that makes me want to last

He remembered. Morning light. That's what was making him so happy. True, the full moon was that night, but after that it would be morning again, and he would see the light. The light of a new day, a new beginning, and seeing everything that meant so much to him.

I believe in the morning light

When I know it'll be over

I believe in the morning light

When I know it'll be done

I believe in the morning light

Where I know I will see them all again

I will be free

And they'll be there

The simple fact that his friends were there for him comforted Remus. He turned his gaze away from the sunlit window to his friends, all of whom were still asleep. James looked like he was trying to play Quidditch in his sleep. Sirius was grinning stupidly, and Peter kept tossing and turning and looked like he would fall off the bed. Smiling as he fought back the urge to laugh at them all, Remus turned back to the window.

I have three great friends, I'm so glad I have them

Some moons I still remember who I am

They're all I could have wanted and they are more

They help me see what life's worth living for

His friends had helped him more than they knew. Before they had started accompanying him, Remus was alone as he transformed each full moon, completely loosing control of himself and having no idea who he was. But now they were with him, and while the feeling of loss of self had never gone completely, there were brief times where he was able to fight it. And with his friends, the full moons weren't all bad and they were easier to get through. It was easier to reach the morning light, when he would be done with the night before, regain himself, and begin again.

I believe in the morning light

When I know it'll be over

I believe in the morning light

When I know it'll be done

I believe in the morning light

Where I know I will see them all again

I will be free...

It was said that what was essential was invisible to the eye. But there were some essential things that could only be appreciated when visible.

And they'll be there.

Author notes: Well, please review. In case you were wondering what the little parts in italics were from, they're from a filk I wrote called 'Morning Light'. It was about Remus, so I just put it in here and made a story out of it.
