He doesn't like doing it, but it's his only choice. Sirius notices and foils Remus; so Remus has no idea whatever to think of Sirius. He likes to ignore the fact that he's still in love with him. But Sirius only uses him. Or does he?

With the full moon falling on Christmas Day, Remus plans to spend the holidays alone at Hogwarts and practise his abysmal potions work, while not--in any way, shape, or form--contemplating his attraction to Sirius. Fortunately, nothing ever goes as planned.

It's Halloween, 1987, and Lupin finds himself wandering through the streets of London. As he tries to come to terms with the loss he suffered on this night in 1981, he runs into an old acquaintance for whom Halloween also holds painful significance.

"It's a ritual they generally don't talk about. Both of them think about it a great deal, whether upon waking the next day or at dinner some weeks later, but they most assuredly do not talk about it. Remus fears bringing it out in the open will breathe life into it, somehow, make it completely unavoidable and utterly final. Sirius simply doesn't know what to say."
