This story is one possible view of Harry's sixth year. Many things change in his life, not least of which are his friendships, loyalties and the perspective that he has on many things that he took as absolutes in earlier years. It tries to follow canon in every place that it can and this includes a lack of long-term romances for the major characters. Fans of certain characters will not like what they read here but as was the case in OotP, everyone involved faces the all too unpleasant reality that though growing up has huge advantages, it isn't always easy.

Ginny Weasley is by and large a failure, and therefore a perfect candidate for taking up politics. When she finds herself inadvertently facing not only a mystery but a general election as well, those who would have her as their puppet realise, however, that she has a few aces up her sleeve – and some rather unexpected allies. Laocoon's Children is an alternate-universe fic based on the events of an earlier fic, Stealing Harry. In Stealing Harry, Sirius was never imprisoned in Azkaban and abducted Harry from the Dursleys when he was eight years old. Laocoon's Children takes up the story during Harry's first year at Hogwarts, where he made fast friends with Neville Longbottom, Padma Patil, and Draco Malfoy. Harry's gang also reunited for their second year, where they faced a basilisk, a homicidal diary, and Draco's mother's betrayal. In year three, Harry must face many new problems: protecting Draco from his father, dealing with their new Dark Arts professor, and standing firm against the aura of fear that is pervading the wizarding world.

Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny find out what it means to grow up against the backdrop of the second wizarding war. Relationships grow, lessons are learned, and Hermione discovers that book smarts aren't everything in this tale set before and during Harry's sixth year.

The Wizarding world is still in quite a state – Voldemort is back, and people are torn as to whether or not they believe it.
