Post-Hogwarts. Azkaban is cruel to him, but the thought of one person keeps him sane. This is a lamentation of a nightmare, because nightmares are preferable to reality.

Remus sits outside by the edge of the lake one afternoon, thinking about his lycanthropy and everything that goes on with it, and how he always has to lie to his friends. Then James, Sirius and Peter come, and they talk. It reassures Remus a bit, but he knows he's still not ready.

Hagrid reflects on what he has gone through, and the things he has endured to get to where he is.

"The old question arises again. What is a life worth? Potter's is an army. And some are not even worth the try." Betraying your friends is one thing. Selling their children is another. Severus Snape muses about 'his' Slytherins.
