They made their way back to the orphanage, the streets jammed with holiday shoppers even with the war on. He let her chatter, trying to find something in her to hate, to be contemptuous of, so that he could finally break the last tie holding him to the muggle world and move forward towards his destiny. Instead she just smiled and talked and held his hand, pointing out decorations and asking, "Aren't they pretty? Oh, aren't you so glad it's Christmas again?"

One mistake. One wrong turn. Harry Potter was not supposed to die in the Chamber of Secrets. Ginny Weasley was not supposed to be left with only the wind to carry her.

The path to darkness bleeds. Tom Riddle's journey as he becomes Lord Voldemort.

And her voice is breaking, because her Harry is no longer hers. He is just Harry… just Harry. She leaves him standing alone as he was always meant to do, because no one else could ever shine that bright.

Set during CoS. Ginny stays in Hogwarts for Christmas while her parents go to Egypt to visit Bill. Amidst all that has happened in school, Ginny wonders whether Christmas has decided to abandon her during a time where she needs company most.
