"What if it had all been different."

One-shot: Sometimes people can't cope with life. Sometimes people get left behind. Ginny is one of those people.

It was the fight of the century. A battle of epic proportions. And afterwards, it was vowed to never happen again. Never again would they battle for their kids' affections. Originally written for the 2008 Fall D/G Fic Exchange.

Ginny Weasley has exiled herself from the wizarding world for almost two years after the war between Voldemort and Harry ended, to save her sanity from the memories of that time. With Professor McGonagall's death, she is invited to the funeral, held at Hogwarts. Deciding to go, Ginny must give up everything she's built to keep her mind safe. But as more complications add themselves up, she enters a new war in the wizarding world in which she must depend on her scarred self, and Draco Malfoy, to keep her sanity.

Ginny Weasley had been in love with Draco for years and then he simply just disapeared. She had almost forgotten about him when a reminder comes in the form of a single green envelope with a promise of more to follow. Now she faces a dilemma: Continue her new life or try to rekindle the one she lost.

Oddly enough, it is not the fact that he knows she could prove to be a hundred times the challenge that her pathetic-excuse-of-a-wizard brother could ever claim to be that keeps Draco from walking away, nor is it the fact that she looks very small and somewhat broken in the lighting without a cloak and with her hair flying everywhere like silk spun out of copper. It is the fact that this contradiction is so Slytherin that she could only be interesting that makes him stay.

We stood there for a few moments. She didn't look down, up, around. She didn't look away. I blinked hard and tried to recapture my breath. This unreadable language her eyes were portraying was deafening. I was captured since. I wanted to challenge her taciturn state.-- Draco is enamored with Ginny Weasley. Simply because she says nothing at all.

When a homicidal maniac escapes from prison to get his hands on a very precious and potentially dangerous scroll, the Aurors send their best agent to retrieve him. Draco Malfoy is unfortunately assigned a partner, a specialist in ancient manuscripts and associated curse-breaking, who is none other than Ginny Weasley. Together, they have but a few hours to prevent a terrible secret from being revealed.

It was a subtle game he played, stealthily hunting down his prey, but he was good at it - that is until he came upon the lioness. On that fateful day, the tables would be turned. The conqueror would become the conquered; the hunter would become the prey.
