From across the grounds, amidst the throes of battle, Draco felt a feather light brush of lips against his cheek. A blown kiss that he knew could only mean one thing. His Beloved was gone.

With this realization the quelled pain and despair of every star-crossed lover flowed through him. With every partical of his body he could feel her. Her body was calling to him. He fought through the sea of spells and people. He blasted aside anyone who came across his path, his pain feeding him a raw power that coursed through his veins.

Her body lay peacefully under a large oak along the edges of the forest. Her eyes closed in a peaceful slumber. Her skin pale in death. The only sign of anything wrong was the deep gash along the side of her neck. Red blood pooling on the snow left no doubt, if any were left, that she was gone.

Draco collapsed, all power draining from him, next to her. The corpse that was only a shell of the life it had held only a few minutes ago. A shell he knew so well. One he had explored so very often, dreaming of a life filled with it, only it. Her. Ginny.

How he hated that name, just as much as she hated Ginevra. One thing they had never agreed on.

Her face was covered in his tears, ones he would never let anyone see. Tears for a promise of a future life led together, only to be evaporated away.

When the tears could fall no more he took his wand and slowly cleaned her wound. Washing away the blood that disfigured her beauty. Healing her one last time, as much as he could. Saying goodbye, but not believing in it. He knew they would be together again, as much as one does when they love someone.

Love, which was what they shared, even if they didn't say it. They didn't need to. They could see it in each other's eyes.

He lay next to her, gazing at the sky. Watching one last sunset together, while in the distance, the battle died down to the occasional flash of a spell. The darkness settled around them as the moon slowly rose, casting shadowy silver light over everything.

Draco took from his pocket a small silver ring and slipped it on her tiny cold finger. He lay back onto the snow, hugging her hand to his chest. His last thought as he looked up at the moon was that he could see her face on it. She was crying and laughing, pure joy flooding her face.

They were found as the sun rose above the horizon. His face a mix of pure happiness and yet filled with sorrow, the two somehow perfectly merged. No one could say how he died. Some said he froze, some said it was a wayward spell, but the thought at the back of everyone's minds was that it was a broken heart.

They were buried together under the oak tree facing the lake. They were laid in the same way they were found, holding hands.

The place would one day become a refuge for another pair of star-crossed lovers. Ones who would defy fate with the blessings and help of Draco and Ginny, the legendary lovers who no one could quite dismiss as myth.
