The Embittering of Severus Snape

This is a story that encompasses many things besides just Severus (and how he became so mean). It's about friendship and loyalty, love and respect. It's about overcoming the odds, sometimes to be more than what you were before, but sometimes just to maintain the friendship you have. You'll find lots of parts to this story that Severus isn't in at all. There will be sections where you love him and sections where you hate him. What kind of man does he become when he can finally be his own man?

She sat perfectly still, a slight smile on her face. The hat was mumbling at her, but she hardly listened. She was a Slytherin, born and bred. So why did the hat just shout, "RAVENCLAW!"

This whole "Making Friends" business is harder than she thought. Much easier, really, just to hex someone and be done with it! What can she do to get back at Black for that Pumpkin Head hex?

Year two begins for Muriel and Severus, who find themselves in the thick of a prank war with the Marauders. Will there be a winner? Or will there only be a loser?

Many things are occuring in this chapter - It begins at the end of Muriel's second year with Lucius and Narcissa's more than interesting courtship (if you can call it that.) And then we get a look at what's coming in third year when Mur and Sev encounter the Marauders in Diagon Alley.

What are the marauders waiting for? Mur decides they must be waiting for her to "start the fun." It isn't like them to go the first entire month of school w/o a prank. So she does what she has to do. She starts the fun.

Rena is a real handful. How will Muriel ever manage to train her? And what hell will break loose once she does?

Rena is finally trained. But what exactly is she trained to do?

Another combination chapter - Part one tells the tale of Lucius and Narcissa's most dreaded conversation and what comes of it. Part two is the beginning of Severus and Muriel's fourth year at Hogwarts. Blue jeans and mutiny, my friends!

The wedding of the century finally comes to pass for Lucius and Narcissa in the same spirit that has followed them throughout their courship. Then we return to Hogwarts with Mur and Sev as they discover that the subtle shifts in loyalties last year have pushed them apart more than expected.

For Severus and Muriel, growing up means growing apart.
