A few newspaper clippings and letters weave a vague tale of Remus Lupin's childhood. And then Ted receives an unexpected letter from a girl he has had a secret crush on for nearly two years straight: Victoire Weasley.

Ted discovers his father's collection of personal journals. Flashback to the first of September, 1971, when Remus Lupin discovers unexpected friendship.

The tale of Remus continues with his friends uncovering the secret behind his monthly disappearances. Meanwhile, in the present, Ted is awoken in the middle of the night by an odd sensation, and something outside his bedroom window gives him the feeling that he's being watched....

On the train back to Hogwarts, Victoire pays Ted and his best mate Rodger a visit in their compartment. Meanwhile, back in 1975, Remus the prefect engages in illegal activities involving his friends, who have just figured out how to become Animagi.

Not only does Ted see the shadow again, but this time he's putting a possible name to it. In the meantime Rodger digs up some evidence that Ted might have been born with a rare ability, and later that night, he is haunted by restless sleep and a bad dream.

After a week of studying for finals and practicing for the final Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, Ted experiences a magical phenomenon in between two trips down Memory Lane.

Ted is really nervous about his date with Victoire later in the afternoon. Meanwhile, Remus and his friends are acquiring nicknames for themselves, but they're also having trouble remembering where things are in the castle and grounds....

While Rodger tests a couple substances on Ted, Ted nquires him about his morning stroll around the lake with Cecilia Bell--apparently now his newest girlfriend. After lunch, he finally meets up with Victoire in Hogsmeade for their date--and is quite stunned when she tells him where she'd like to go.

Ted has buried his sometimes-prickling nose in the journal again: Remus has come to a decision--but Lily does something he wasn't expecting.

Remus steps outside when his mother frets over the fact that he has a gray strand of gray hair. His father joins him and senses that Remus is seeking advice on love, but isn't sure how to go about it, so he tells him his own love story. That night, he recalls encounters with future enemies. The following morning, he learns of a tragedy that has befallen his mother's side of the family, who has just found out that she is carrying another hopeless prospect of new life.

Remus and his friends are about to make what may be the biggest decision in their lives so far. Meanwhile, Ted has a revelation about the two werewolves he encountered the night before last.

Ted takes Victoire to the tapestry (you can either fill in the blanks or read the chapter, or both that's fun too), Remus has a first glimpse of a certain someone in a photograph, (read and find out who!) and he and the Marauders and Lily have one last day together at Hogwarts before leaving to take on the world (well, Voldemort anyway)!

As Remus and company start their post-Hogwarts lives, Remus endures his first ever job interview, joins the Order with the others, and quite a few secrets are discovered along the way.

Remus and his friends get the first taste of war, and it doesn't take them long to learn how bitter and terrible it is....

As Ted plunders on with reading through Remus' journals (despite Rodger's advice to get some much needed sleep), the first war against Voldemort rages on for Remus and his friends. His friends come and visit something, and among other things, James and Lily have something important to tell him. Remus takes this with sadness through the winter, even as he begins his very first private mission for the Order. And if that isn't enough, he receives some terrible news concerning his little brother, Ramirus.

In the wake of the deaths of two more members of the Order, Sirius gets a surprise from a mysterious golden retriever....

Quite a few things happen in preparation for James and Lily's big wedding day....

After Remus has a few drinks at the wedding reception, he feels a little less inhibited by the prospect of accepting the random and apparent affections of young woman he barely knows. Meanwhile, back in the present day with Ted, Ted is rescued from having to explain himself to Victoire when a package from him arrives for her.

Ted is starting to be bothered by the age difference of his parents, so much so that it affects his game during a Quidditch practice. Meanwhile, a few months after James and Lily announce that they're going to have a baby (guess who!) Remus learns that James, Sirius, Aurelia, and Peter have mysteriously disappeared, and with everyone else running around in chaos, he must go off alone to save them. But when he finds his friends, why is it that everyone's there save for Peter...?

A disturbing passage in the journals leaves Ted haunted by the ghosts of the past. Then he finds Victoire haunted by a little ghost of her own. How much will these two, the eldest of the Next Generation, share with each other? And meanwhile, back in Remus' time, on the late morning of the last day in July, a storm arrives, carrying the tidings of new life on the howling winds.

It's already that time of year again: Christmas! And although the last half of the year is rather bleak for Remus and his friends, and for Remus most particularly, it turns out to be a bittersweet Christmas, especially when Remus spends Christmas Eve with friends at the Potters'--and some unexpected guests too.

The Veil of Death is disovered, and a tragedy befalls Remus and his young friends. Then Ted falls asleep and is awakened by Rodger while in a rather compromising position. But later he finds comfort in sharing a moment of childhood happiness with Victoire. Then, back in Remus' time, a storm arrives, bringing Dumbledore with it to the Potters' doorstep, bearing the darkest of news.

Secrets are no fun, especially when they come to hurt the ones we love most.
