Morena Serran came from a rich wizarding family, but lived in a small farmhouse in rural Ireland with a selfish and neglectful father and a timid and scared mother. She was almost grateful when she came home from her last year of Hogwarts and found that she could leave that life behind. Her freedom, however, would come at a steep price: she would be forced into servitude for a dangerous sorcerer looking for a few items that would help him on his way to bring the wizarding world to a reign over all Muggles, and to refuse the request would practically be suicide.

Over 100 years before the Canon: Same Hogwarts. Different teachers. In J K Rowling's canon we only really see Hogwarts from the point of view of the students, glimpses into the lives of the staff are rare and tantalising. Behind the Staffroom Door is a story set some hundred years before the main action of the canon. Its main character is DADA teacher, Peregrine Proudfoot and how he deals with running the school for a very ill Headmaster and handling staffroom politics.

This is the first of my Backdrop Series, a series focusing on several background characters. This is about Merope Gaunt, and is a short look at her dependance on others. She is crazy as all get out, but in her own special way.
