Harry Potter and the Heir
Chapter 2
Eerana stepped out of the fireplace and into the living room. She dusted herself off and headed toward her bedroom. She threw the door open and dumped her packages on the armchair. Then, she fell butt first onto the bed.
"Heavens, what a day."
So much had happened today. Right now, a hot shower was very appealing. She sat up, stripped, and walked into the bathroom connected to her room. The water turned hot and Eerana looked back on the day's events.
Let's see...I've fallen into someone's kitchen, been turned into a canary, been introduced to a family that I swear is named Xerox, she thought with a laugh. I've been introduced to three new friends, including the famous Harry Potter. I already have an enemy: Malfoy. I've been assaulted, my wand was broken, and I was mocked. Anything I forget?
Yes dear, you met an incredibly handsome guy who is plain rotten.
Oh shut it you, she thought. Malfoy? Sure he's good-looking but I'd rather my pet toad, thanks.
You don't have a pet toad.
Why am I having a civil war? This is my head, get your own!
With that, Eerana stepped out of the shower that magically stopped when she stepped out of it. She wrapped herself in her thick terry cloth robe and walked into her room. Her room...It reflected her interests. The walls were a deep blue, ocean blue if you will. Her room was circular and blue shag carpets were set up along the floor. She had a magically expanding closet, and in a prominent place of the room was her bed. It was twin-sized and rather comfortable for a Muggle mattress. The mattress lay inside a wrought-iron frame with matching headboard. And filling the top half of her bed was numerous pillows of all shapes and sizes. Naturally, they were all a shade of blue or gray. Her ceiling was the most interesting part of her room, or so she thought. On it were stars and their constellations. They rearranged themselves whenever the stars in the real sky shifted. And like normal stars, they shone brightly in the night and during the day shifted to the corners of her room. Then hanging around her windows were thin drapes of cerulean.
Eerana changed into a pair of jeans (she was rather fond of the Muggle fad for them) and a white T-shirt. After that hefty bit of work, she scooped up her packages in her arms and dumped them on her bed to thoroughly examine them. The first book she picked up was Unfogging the Future. Lazily, she opened up to a page and found it to be on palmistry. Oh goody, she thought sarcastically. I knew I should've taken Arithmancy! At the bottom of her pile was the copy of Hogwarts, A History that that prat Draco Malfoy had given her. On the cover was a scrolled letter 'H' with a raven, a badger, a lion, and a serpent weaving through it. Intrigued, Eerana opened the cover and read on the inside flap:
To: Raven Girl
From: the Dragon
Eerana scoffed, then snorted. The Dragon? Oh please. She opened the first page and began to read.
Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry was founded in the year 370 AD by four witches and wizards: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin.
Below were four portraits painted on canvass, one for each founder. They all waved at her, except for Slytherin who gave her the evil eye. Eerana shook her head, amused, and set the book aside. Then she put the rest of her things in her trunk, and sighed as she was called down to dinner.
Dinner was good, but Eerana was unnaturally silent. Scott and Mark were discussing goings-on at the ministry while Corryn told Hilda about the Weasleys, Harry, and Hermione. Eerana finished her food and started towards a small closet off the kitchen.
"Ana, hun, are you ok? Nothing strenuous happened today did it?" asked her mother.
"Yes and no to the latter. I need to fly, I'm getting antsy." Eerana reached inside the small closet and pulled out her Meteor 37. It was the latest model of brooms yet and wasn't due to come out until around Christmas. It had been a fifteenth birthday present from her father who worked at the Nimbus Broom Company. He had to test new broom models and they sent one home with him. He killed two birds with one stone or so to speak. Eerana grabbed the broom, headed outside, and kicked off. Thankfully, she didn't have to worry about being seen by any Muggles because her father had Walls of Invisibility set up in their back yard. It was kind of like a gargantuan sized Invisibility Cloak. Eerana's blood hummed with the promise of altitude. She pointed her broom up and went higher and higher until she realized she was out of the Walls of Invisibility. She lowered her altitude and after about a half-hour of flying, she flew through the open window of her room. After carefully setting down, she stowed away the broom in her trunk.
After changing into a light nightgown, she sat down on her bed to read more of Hogwarts, A History. She waved her wand at a radio and the Wizard Wireless Network came on. Soon though, Eerana had fallen asleep on her bed.
Eerana dreamt of a raven flying over a dense forest. When it flapped it's wings, blue and grey streaks of sparkles followed it. It flew to a huge castle and into a room adorned in blue. The raven flew to its owner lying in the bed. The owner turned her head, but her raven-black hair hid her facial features. All of a sudden, the raven was a man with jet-black hair and deep green orbs for eyes. He went to push back the woman's hair from her face, when Eerana's dream ended.
What is it that's bugging me? Harry asked himself. He was pulling on his pajamas in Ron's room at the Burrow. As he heard a clang from the ghoul in the attic above, his thoughts turned to how he had gotten here. About three weeks into the summer holiday, the Dursleys had become even more agitated with Hedwig than normal. After Harry had told Sirius, Sirius got it back to Dumbledore and Harry was moved to the Burrow. So here he was, thinking of his day. Does she go to Hogwarts? No, no, she said she didn't...This is her first year. Where do I know her from? Maybe Ron knows her...
"Hey Ron," he whispered to the sleeping Ron.
"Mmm?" he mumbled.
"What do you think of Eerana?"
"Shis vice..."
"Huh?" puzzled Harry.
"Purty. Not as purty as H--," then Ron seemed to come to his senses. "Eh? I thought you were asleep?"
"No. What do you think of Eerana?" he repeated.
"She's nice, I guess. I mean, any girl who knees and knocks over Malfoy is good in my book."
"Doesn't she remind you of someone?"
"Er...no." Ron sighed. "I think she's another Hermione." He yawned.
"Right. Never mind then."
"She is pretty though. A tad short, but pretty."
"Good things come in small packages," Harry quoted.
"Yep, sure. I'm off to sleep. G'night Harry."
"'Night Ron." Then on a whim, "Hey, who's Eerana not as pretty as?"
Ron was half-asleep so couldn't stop himself. "Hermione. Ack!"
Harry grinned to himself, but his mind still played around, where do I know her from?
The first of September came sooner this year for Eerana. The night before, August thirty-first, she packed all her things into her trunk except for her school uniform, wand, and robes, which she packed into her canvas tote bag for the train.
Hilda outdid herself with dinner that night. Eerana had the sneaking suspicion that Hilda had cooked everything in the house. After dinner that night, everyone sat back in his or her chairs. They had all had third helpings, Scott had managed four.
"Well, it appears I'll have to loosen my belt a notch," chuckled Mark.
"So, Ana, are you going to come back for Christmas holiday?" asked Corryn.
"I don't know Mum, I'll have to send you an owl," she replied.
Later that night, Eerana was getting ready for bed, when her parents walked in.
"Eerana honey, we want you to know how proud of you we are," stated Mark.
"I didn't do anything..."
"You made the choice of going to a whole new school where there's no one you know. It's a big choice," continued Corryn. "We want you to be safe and to have a good time at Hogwarts."
"Don't forget the learning part of the deal," winked Mark.
"I know," Eerana smiled. As her parents began to walk out, she spoke again, "did either of you go to Hogwarts?" Mark was already out the door when Eerana had called out, so Corryn turned around and sat on her bed.
"Yes. I did."
"Which house were you in?" Eerana asked.
"I was in Ravenclaw."
"What about Dad?"
"He went to Scrimpton's."
"So how did you meet him, then?"
"You're so full of questions. I met Dad when I tried out for the Holyhead Harpies. The girls treated us all to a pint at the local tavern and I met him while there. Of course, the entirety of them disagreed with me talking to a man, but he was cute." A slow smile spread across Corryn's face. "The next day at callbacks, they told me, 'I had the talent, but not the heart of a harpy.' There's a tradition of the Harpies being male-haters." Eerana laughed lightly.
"I was just wondering why I wasn't put into Hogwarts from the start," said Eerana. "Why wasn't I?"
Corryn blew out a breath. "Well my daughter, it's a complicated issue. An issue that will be discussed in the future." Eerana's eyebrows furrowed.
"Did you think I wouldn't be able to keep up? That maybe I wasn't smart enough?"
"Oh no, it has nothing to do with that," Corryn said urgently. "We knew you would excel, there were some things we didn't want you exposed to that were at Hogwarts. So, Scrimpton's seemed like the ideal solution. I can tell you more another day. Now is not the time." Her eyebrows went up, ready to question her daughter. "What happened to your wand? I was checking to see that you had everything, and I saw your wand was different."
"Oh, um..." Think girl, think! "You see, ah...the day we went to Diagon Alley, you remember that day? Oh, yes...Well, it's quite stupid really. I tripped over a broom in Quality Quidditch Supplies and I broke my wand. So, I bought a new one." She smiled as innocently as she could and gave her mother a peck on the cheek.
"I see...Well, sleep tight. Don't let the wart bugs bite," joked Corryn. Eerana smiled as Corryn walked out the door. She closed her eyes, but they sprang open only moments later.
"Warts? Mum, you were just joshing with me, right?" she called out to her mother's retreating back.
The next morning, Eerana woke to a loud German beer song coming from the kitchen. She kept her eyes closed, hoping she could fall back to sleep for another hour, or possibly another day. Her wishes were crushed as the singing grew louder and filled her room to bursting. Eerana squeezed her eyes shut. If I can't see her, she can't see me. She repeated it over and over in her head.
"Come on Eerana! It's a bee-you-ti-ful morning!" shouted Hilda. "Ein Prosit, Ein Prosit,...," she sang. She breezed out of the room and back down the stairs to the kitchen. Very reluctantly, Eerana climbed out of bed and reached for her robe before realizing she had packed it in her trunk last night.
"Oh bother," she muttered. She walked downstairs while insanely wishing she could do magic over the holidays to get rid of the newly formed headache. She yawned and plopped down at her seat across the table from Scott. "What time is it?" she mumbled.
"Seven o'clock in the morning," Scott responded brightly.
"Seven? Why the hell--um, heck are we up this early?"
"Eerana Rowen, watch that mouth of yours" warned Corryn.
"The train is at King's Cross. We can't very well use Floo Powder, there's no fireplace. We had to rent a taxi," said Mark without looking up from The Daily Prophet.
"So what time are we leaving?"
"One hour." Mark glanced at his watch. "You have enough time."
"Now, Eerana, you must send me an owl if you cannot live on the school's food," played Hilda. "If it's awful, I'll just have to have a talk with their cooks." She waved her wand.
"Hilda, no one cooks as good as you, you know that." At this, Hilda nodded and went back to her cooking.
Half an hour later, Eerana stepped out of the shower and into her room to change. After rummaging through her drawers and closet looking for a few minutes, she decided on a skirt of a white floaty material and a blue short sleeved shirt of the same material. She put the top half of her hair into a clip. Lastly, she applied some Muggle eyeshadow and lip gloss. Eerana studied herself in the mirror. Her reflection twirled and patted her hair.
"Quite good, if I do say so myself," commented her reflection.
"Is there too much eyeshadow, you think?" she asked it.
"No, it's fine."
Suddenly, an owl flew through the window. It was snowy white and very beautiful. It was carrying a letter addressed to her. She opened it while the owl dipped it's beak in the cup of water next to Eerana's bed. The letter read,
Dear Eerana,
I hope Hedwig got this to you on time. How are you doing so far? Everything's good here at the Weasleys'. Well of course it is, Harry! Guess what, I've been made a prefect and she'll have to sit with the rest of the prefects for the first ten minutes of the train ride. Just as we were writing this, Ron got a letter saying he's been made a prefect? What the-- Blimey! Fred and George weren't ever made prefects! That's because they're pranksters, Ron. Anyway, save us a compartment so we can sit with you. I can take points from Malfoy! Ha Ha Ha! Hmm...good point... Stop it you two. Ana, we'll see you on Platform 9 ¾.
Cheers, Ha ha ha!, Ron!
Harry, Ron, Hermione
P.S. That prefect letter was a crank from Fred and George. Grr...
Eerana laughed to herself. She quickly wrote a reply on the bottom of the parchment for Hedwig to take back saying she was happy for Hermione and advised Ron not to do anything stupid. She also told them she'd save a compartment and she'll see them later. Hedwig flew out the window just as her father came up the stairs and into her room.
"Ok, Ana. Have you got everything?"
"Aye," she answered. She quickly shoved the letter into her tote bag. "Are you going to put my trunk in the car now?"
"Yes, the taxi just arrived."
"I still say we should get a Muggle car," insisted Eerana.
" What's the point?" Her dad asked as he cracked a smile. "You'll be able to Apparate in two years anyway." With this, he hauled the heavy trunk downstairs, outside, and into the waiting taxi.
Eerana made sure she had her wand and school clothes in her bag before jumping downstairs and bolting out the door.
"Bye Hilda" she called.
"Auf Wiedersehen!"
Eerana climbed in the back with her mother, while her father sat in front with the driver. Two and a half hours later at ten fourty-five, they reached King's Cross. Eerana and her parents looked around for Platform nine and three-quarters , but it wasn't to be found. Suddenly, Eerana spotted Mrs. Weasley walk through the wall separating platforms nine and ten.
"Ah, so that's how it's done," mused Eerana. She evened herself up with the wall and took it at a run (just to be safe).
Instead of colliding, she went straight through and lo and behold, a sign confirmed she was on Platform nine and three-quarters. Right behind her, her parents emerged. It was now ten of eleven.
"Eerana, send an owl every once in a while, ok?" said her mother.
"Sure, Mum. Bye, love you." She gave her dad and mom each a kiss and a hug, then stepped on the train. She searched for an empty compartment. Finally, she found one just as the train started moving. She settled back into a seat and looked at the countryside speed away.
No sooner had she closed her eyes when the compartment door opened. She popped open an eye and immediately wished she hadn't. There stood Draco Malfoy with two huge clods who looked to be his goons. Malfoy stepped into the compartment and shut the door so the Twin Lurches were outside.
"Well, well. If it isn't "Tiny Raven," he sneered. "You do know this is my usual compartment, right?"
"Your name wasn't written on it, so it seemed up for the taking," she retorted. He pulled out his wand and waved it at her seat. On the back of her seat appeared the words, "Draco Malfoy."
Eerana glanced behind her, then looked back at Malfoy. "Very funny. Now, what are you doing here? I'm saving this compartment for a bunch of friends, you'll have to find another."
"Ah yes, Potty, the Weasel, and Buck Tooth Granger. Some friends."
"I choose my friends by their personality, not their size to ensure my life."
"I suppose I was mistaken. I thought after that day in Diagon Alley you would enlist some bodyguards to ward off attackers." He gave her a mocking look.
"Malfoy, you should be happy that I didn't yell 'rape' to any Ministry officials, namely Arthur Weasley." She would've missed it, if he wasn't looking so intently at her, but she saw a wave of hatred pass through his cold grey eyes.
"You should be careful what you say to me, Jones. My father is one of the most respected Ministry officials there. If I tell him we have a traitor for the other side, namely your brother Scott, he'll be forced to tell Minister Fudge." He grinned evilly.
"My brother? How do you know his name? You don't have that power!"
"Well then. Do you play Quidditch?" He was still giving her an evil look and Eerana was beginning to wonder...
"Yes, why?"
"I am captain of a Quidditch team at Hogwarts. I'm looking for Chasers."
Eerana scoffed, he couldn't be a captain of a Quidditch team. Then again, she thought, his father probably had something to do with it. "Which house are you in?"
"Slytherin."
"In that case, I would be on your opposing team. I'm not going to be in Slytherin."
"Malfoy chortled. "Right, and hogs don't have wings."
"Uh...they don't," she pointed out. Malfoy's eyes narrowed. Eerana watched as he pointed his wand at her and ropes came out, binding her arms to her sides and completely preventing her from moving. Eerana merely gaped at him. Then she cursed him in four different languages.
"Ah well, you think that, Tiny."
"I am not Tiny!" she shouted. She tried to wriggle out of the tightly bound ropes, but only succeeded in falling on the floor.
"I've trapped Raven's wings!" he laughed gleefully.
"Why the hell do you call me Raven?" Ana nearly shrieked.
"Hello? Your hair is black as a raven. Now, that shouting might be a nuisance." He flicked his wand and a roll of Spellotape appeared. Before he covered her mouth, however, he gave her a hard kiss. "You'll find, Raven, that now is not the time to be my enemy," he whispered. He walked out of the compartment and Eerana heard him call to the two rhinos, "Come on, Crabbe, Goyle."
Eerana heard him walk away. She struggled for the next fifteen minutes, but fell asleep. Her last thought was, I hope the rest of the year doesn't go like this...
