Hermione couldn't control the quivering in her stomach as she finished dressing herself for the ball. With her robe draped perfectly, her hair up in a loose knot and sprinkled with sparkles, and subtle make-up applied to her face, only one task remained: putting on her gorgeous new necklace. As she took the necklace out of the book, she noticed a small slip of paper tucked into it:
More than beauty lies in a glistening gem
Strength, grace, and love reside here,
And the undying love of one true friend
Will protect you from the harm of hatred.
Look at the cat for grace and strength,
The teardrop for memory,
But look at the stars
For love.
The ever-changing flame, which she could now see was made of tiny stars, glowed in every color, covering Hermione with invisible protection as she fastened it around her neck.
