As they walked out onto the street with their purchases in hand, Hermione suddenly asked Sirius,

"Have you heard from Harry lately? I mean, has he gotten any more death threats?"

"He hasn't heard from--what's his name?--Sadis Oscuro again. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. . ."

Hermione wasn't sure what to think either. "It could mean it was just a sick joke, but then, it could mean that Oscuro is planning something. . . I'm concerned."

"I am, too, Hermione."

Neither was sure exactly how they had ended up walking together through Hogsmeade, but it seemed natural that they would stay together until they went back to Hogwarts. Passing Glitter and Charms Jewelry Store, Hermione gasped at the sight of a stunning necklace on a thin gold chain. Sirius stopped and looked in the window. "What is it?"

"That necklace," Hermione said, pointing to a teardrop shaped diamond stone. Had it been merely a well-cut stone, it would have been beautiful; however, this diamond was enchanted by master jewelers. A tiny, sleek silver cat glided through the clear, sparkling gem, and in the heart of the gem a tiny flame of constantly changing colors radiated.

"Let's go inside," Sirius suggested. After the two entered the store, Sirius immediately whispered to a sales clerk, who, moments later, brought the necklace out in a luxurious black velvet box. Hermione stood in awe and surprise. Near the counter, the clerk pulled out another small box. Sirius paid for both items and pocketed the smaller box before Hermione saw it.

Back on the street, Sirius shyly passed her the larger box. Hermione was speechless. She opened the box and couldn't stop staring at the constantly changing jewel. Sirius couldn't stop staring at her.

"Do you like it?" Sirius asked.

"This is probably the nicest gift anyone's ever given me," Hermione said, her eyes sparkling with gratitude. "I love it."

Well, that's two out of three of the words, Sirius thought. I'll work on the third. . .

"I like the cat," Hermione continued. "I always loved cats. Not that there's anything wrong with dogs, of course, my dear Padfoot."

Sirius laughed. "Hey, have you seen Filch's new cat? Fluffy brown thing, smart eyes?"

"Uh, no. . ."
