Remus' Nifty, Big, Red, Beautiful Book

Carmen Black

Story Summary:
Sirius, James, and Peter seem to think that since I read so much, I should write as well. Something like keeping a journal. So they gave me this. This “nifty, big, red, beautiful book”, according to James. Peter says to make it my life’s work, adding to it as my life progresses. They’re all idiots, but maybe I’m even worse, since I’m here writing in the blasted thing. (This fan fiction is an AU)

Valentine's Day approaches. It seems like I'm the only one dreading it. Sky's Drugstore has decked out in pinks, reds, and silvers and whites, and there isn't a shelf without hearts on it. I met up with Sirius today and complained a bit about Valentine's Day.

"You only dread it because it makes pine for your lost love of the African school, alias, Nina," Sirius insisted.

"That isn't true, Sirius," was my best comeback. He's wrong. He is. I don't need her to make me happy, and I'm certainly not PINEING, dammit! He can be such a bastard sometimes. Peter told me Sirius was right. He's a bastard too. Only James kept his trap shut. Smart boy. They forget; I could rip them limb from limb if I wanted to.

Boring day. James called though. He was really excited. Harry said "broom". In fact, Harry doesn't call James dad, or daddy. He calls him 'broom'. That's the news of the day. Let me now go to the flower filled store of doom to start my shift.

I think Valentine's Day was made so people who are dateless feel terrible and people in love can have a grand old time.

I don't miss Nina.

Sirius, after my depression because of Valentine's Day yesterday, claims I'm in denial, and I am hopelessly in love with my "little African princess". It's funny, because she isn't African. She's European. I told him that. Sirius laughed and explained that it didn't matter, and I still 'wanted' her. I promptly informed him he was mistaken and had a sick mind. James popped up and unhelpfully added that the glazed look on my face when Sirius said I 'wanted' her wasn't very convincing for my cause. Peter showed up and the two others ganged up on me, explaining what they were talking about. Peter, of course, took their side, and I was now, in their eyes, undoubtedly in love with Nina. I am really starting to hate them.

Finally, the weekend! Thank God! Work was a nightmare this week! First, they switched the red and pinks with the pastels of Easter, and then they fired me. They couldn't afford to pay me anymore. I hope they go out of business. So I am once more unemployed, and the landlord is once again calling "RENT!" when he sees me. If I ever move, I'll tell him where he can stick that rent...

No job yet. Sticking to the Muggle world, though. It makes the interview process so much easier.

Plans with the wedding are getting a little hectic. I'm beginning to think Ilka really knew what she was talking about when she said four months wasn't enough time. However, we have the final list of the bride/groom party.

Elle's maid of honour is her best friend, Tracy Restler. Her other friend, Dove, is a bridesmaid along with Alice, Lily, and Sirius' sister (again, really a Potter) Virginia. They've already looked into bridesmaid dresses. I overheard Lily and Alice complaining about how hard it was.

"It'd be so much easier if we all had blonde hair," Dove said said.

"I know!" Lily agreed. "We have you, the dark brown-haired, Virginia, the raven-haired, Tracy the light brown-haired, Alice the blonde, and me...the redhead."

I myself don't see why hair color matters so much, but I suppose it's a female thing, because Frank claims Alice came home grumbling about hair and how it's throwing everything off.

To the less confusing side: the men. James is Sirius' best man, of course, and the groomsmen are me, Frank, Peter, and Elle's brother Rowan. Rowan really doesn't like Sirius, and it shows. I can understand why though. Rowan is Elle's parental figure, and Sirius is a parent's worst nightmare.

Oh, and Sirius and James's little sister Olivia (age 6) is the flower girl. She quite adorable and very excited about being the flower girl. Sirius told her it was the most important part of the wedding, to have a good flower girl. What a good big brother. I wish I had a big brother. Olivia has two of them, and I bet she doesn't know how lucky she is.

I wonder if Olivia's hair will mess up the dresses? I really don't understand that. I should ask somebody. This will drive me crazy, not knowing what the women are so annoyed about.

Sirius and Elle also chose invitations today. Sirius stopped by to show me. They looked expensive, with their gold outline and fancy swirling letters, but Sirius told me they were the cheapest Elle would let him get.
