Chapter one. What a mess!

Was it faith or was life just messing with her? Sixteen-year-old Emily Williams wasn't sure anymore. Four months ago, she had just been a normal Swedish teenager who read Harry Potter books and played basketball. This autumn, she would have begun the gymnasium and would never have to return to her old, horrible school. Well the last year, it hadn't been so horrible. Because since Emily started to read the Harry Potter books, she had discovered that she was a bit special. Like most people, she tried, just for fun, to do the spells from the books. There were just one thing. They worked. And that was fun.

The first big thing she did was to Stupefy the Lucia in the Luciatrain. It had been very fun to see everyone starring at one of the most popular girls in school, who looked as if she had forgotten the text to the song and had just frozen. But after five minutes, Emily had whispered the counter curse. Or that time when she'd accidentally put some spells on the three most popular girls in school. The three of them were teasing Emily about how mush she read. They shouldn't have done that. Suddenly, Sarah founded herself dancing like a maniac (The Tarantallegra spell), Johanna founded herself being covered in boils (Furunuculus) and suddenly Isabella swelled to the size of a small weatherballoon (Engorgio). Of course, Emily erased their memories after the occasion, but they never bugged her again.

But now, all of this was over. Her father had been reassigned to a job in England and the whole family was moving with him. Well not exactly the whole family. Emily's cat, Cookie, were staying in Sweden. Emily's father had said that they couldn't take care of Cookie, even though they were moving out on the country. Why? Because Emily wasn't. She was going to a boarding school. Her parents had thought that the best place to get a good education was in a boarding school. So after a tip from her father's new business partner, a big, unpleasant man in Emily's point of view, she was put in Smeltings. She refused. Because in the Harry Potter books, Smeltings is not a very nice place, Dudley Dursley goes there, and not to mention the horrible school uniforms. Sure, Emily knew that the books wasn't real, but if the spells worked, why shouldn't the school be as horrible as in the books? But her parents didn't give in. She was going to Smeltings, end of story.

So on the morning on September 1st, she took the train from her home village to Kings Cross in London. Her train arrived at 10.30 and her train to Smeltings would leave at 11.30 from platform 10.

She went to the platform immediately. She looked at the barrier between platform 9 and 10. So this was it. This were supposed to be the secret entrance to platform 9¾. She sat down with her back against the barrier and her big bag besides her, and let her man slip.

What if she would be able to go to Hogwarts? And not to be forced to stupid Smeltings with those stupid school uniforms. She hadn't put on her uniform yet though. She would change on the train. It was so ugly! She liked the Hogwarts uniform mush better, the black robe, the tie, the pullover and the plissé skirt. And of course, the house badge. She had always wanted to be in Gryffindor. Well, Ravenclaw wouldn't be to bad either. Suddenly, she got snapped out of her dreamworld by a scream.

"Out of the way! Out of the way!"

She looked up and saw a trolley coming rushing towards her, without an owner (He came 10 meters after, screaming). Emily jumped up and grabbed her bag, but she wasn't quick enough. The trolley hit her hard and she fell. Though not forward or to the side as she'd expected, but backwards. Through the barrier. It was when she looked up as she saw the sign. "Platform 9¾". What the hell had happened? This wasn't possible! Had she fallen asleep? Because the only ones who could cross the barrier was wizards and whitche... Of course! She should have known it! After all the magic she was capable of. A huge grin spread over Emily's face . This was to good to be true.

"Are you okay?" someone asked and stretched out a hand.

No, she had been wrong. It wasn't to good to be true. And it was even better. She could have recognised that face and red hair anywhere.

"Are you okay?" the boy asked again.

Emily took his hand and he helped her up.

"Yes, I'm just fine," she answered. "I was just a bit startled, that's all."

"Are you new? I've never seen you before."

"Oh, I'm, um..."

To her rescue, the boys two friends came through the barrier to the platform.

"I told you not to run!" the girl said angrily to the boy. "You could have hurt her!" she continued with a gesture at Emily.

"Give him a break, Herm," the other of the boys friends said lazily to the girl.

"Oh, don't you give me that, Harry! I apologise for both of them," the girl said and turned to Emily. "Who are you? I'm positive I haven't seen you in school."

"I'm Emily Williams. I'm a... transfer student from Sweden."

"Oh! Well then, welcome to Hogwarts! I'm..."

"Don't say it!" Emily said quickly. "Let me guess."

The three friends looked questioning at each other. But then they nodded.

"Go ahead," the second boy said.

"You must be Harry Potter," Emily said to him. "And you two are Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley."

"How did you know?" Hermione gasped and all three of them starred at Emily.

Damn! She hadn't thought of that. Quick lie...

" Second cuisine to Oliver Wood," she answered quickly. "He did send me photos when he founded out I was going to go to Hogwarts."

"Oh," Harry and the others relaxed.

"Well, come on then," Hermione said. "Let's get on the train!"

Oh, and I have a question for all of you that have english as native-language. What on earth is a sherbert lemon?! In the Swedish edition it it a icecream, but I have read many stories with people using the sherbert lemon, and I'm beginning to doubt. Is it an icecrem? Or a lollypop? Or candy? Please help.

Cheers!
