Remedial History

There have always been certain unwritten rules at Hogwarts. Gryffindors are not friendly to Slytherins. Nobody learns anything in History of Magic. And nothing much ever happens to Theodore Wilkes Nott, apart from bullied by his own housemates, overshadowed by his clever friend Blaise, and ignored by everybody else. What happens when unwritten rules start to change?

The sixth-year Slytherins encounter a technophile DADA teacher, a singing sensation, and some Death Eater recruitment propaganda. Only one of these items impresses them. Draco sends Theo on an errand which seems doomed to failure.

Blaise and Draco butt heads as the Pureblood Youth League holds elections. Theo befriends Neville, and Trevor the toad finds love. Luna reflects on Snape.

Professor Binns discovers, belatedly, that he's dead and takes some time off to recuperate. His successor has a very different teaching style. Theo, faced with an unusual essay assignment, thinks about his family and the Malfoys.

Nearly Headless Nick begins to tell the story of his life and death, and Theo remembers the train ride to Hogwarts and his Sorting.

The Pureblood Youth League conducts a binding ritual. Harry and Neville have a conversation with Theo in Hagrid's hut. Back in the fifteenth century, Nearly Headless Nick comes up with a plan.

Nearly Headless Nick explains what really happened to the Princes in the Tower, and why none of the Muggles have heard about it. Theo remembers his sister's brief relationship with a Muggle and her death.

Faced with another challenge to his authority from Blaise, Draco decides that the Pureblood Youth League will practice curses. Theo gets asked out on a date, and responds with his customary suaveness. In a flashback to third year, Professor Lupin attempts to teach the Slytherins how to deal with a boggart.

Nearly Headless Nick finishes his story. A few ideas from his history class and a copy of Shakespeare lead Theo to a shattering discovery. He struggles to make sense of the information.

More third-year reminiscences: Theo reminds Professor Lupin of an old friend. Back in the present day, Theo and Tracey share an awkward trip to Hogsmeade. Who knew dating your friends could be this weird?

Theo meets the Order and gets a free ukelele lesson, as well as some practice with birth control spells.

After a series of private conversations with Draco, Neville, Blaise, and Millicent, Theo thinks things over and decides to spill his entire story to the Order. Unfortunately, he's already made an enemy.

Faced with an accusation from Neville and a warning from Blaise, Theo decides to ditch school. He finds a manuscript that puzzles him and meets a Respectable Married Woman, who is on her way to London to meet her favorite author.

Davey Gudgeon comes looking for his wayward wife, and Theo gets his first look at Grimmauld Place. Gilderoy!Kreacher gives lessons in Extreme House Cleaning.

Theo shows the adults the book he found and learns a bit about its history and origins. Snape and Lupin have an argument that takes a violent turn.

Theo and Snape have a long-overdue conversation, which Dumbledore interrupts with the news that several Pureblood Youth League members have ganged up and attacked one of Theo's other housemates.

Theo receives several letters from his schoolmates and tries to persuade Snape to take him on as a spy-in-training. Snape isn't happy about this plan. Neither is Lupin.

A long-dead Death Eater turns up in an unexpected place, and Snape finds out what American DADA professors are good for.

Theo meets Peter Pettigrew's rather hapless mother, and makes his final decision about his future.

Theo returns to Hogwarts and speaks with his housemates and Snape.
