In a village in Cumbria, a Muggle teenager and her reluctant best friend explore a mysterious abandoned castle that resides in the hills. By chance they are hurled into an underground bedroom, and there they discover an old book that seems to only consist of diary entries. Everyone knows the story of the Four Founders of Hogwarts; the tales of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin are legendary. But did everything happen in the same way that it has always been told? Did Salazar Slytherin leave strictly because of differences concerning the purity of blood? Did friendships suffer and fail because of arguments concerning the running and ruling of Hogwarts? Or was there another reason? Could the story of a romantic relationship between two of the four friends have been lost to time? And did such an event cause more damage to the school than the beliefs in blood?

It has been thought that dreams hold great value in diving unknown knowledge. Some adhere to the belief that a dream is capable of foretelling events, be they tragic or wonderful. Others believe that a dream is strictly that — a dream. Helga has a dream that shakes her focus and one that could have unforeseen effects on a friendship and on a school.
