Chapter 01: Orphans and Surprises

Night Before....

"Draco! Leave now!" Narcissia cried, as she battled the half a dozen Death Eaters that was now attack her and her son. She blasted one with a Stupefy curse and turned to face her son again. "Go now!" More Death Eaters had started to arrive.

Draco shook his head and shot one of the Death Eaters that tried to take advantage of his mother's lack of attention with his wand. "No! I'm not leaving without you Mum!" They were slowly being overpowered. Draco had multiple cuts and bruises and was barely staying conscious.

Narcissia sighed and took out yet another Death Eater, though she got a burned arm for her troubles. "I'm sorry Draco, but this is for your own good." She tossed a cloth covered object at Draco. He caught it as Seeker instinct took over, when the cloth fell off the object. It revealed a silver ring with a sapphire diamond encrusted in it. He didn't have time to look at it, as the Portkey started to take effect. The last thing Draco saw was his mother mouthing Sorry. Love you' and getting shot in the back with a green light. He just saw the face of the Death Eater that had shot her as he was pulled through by the Portkey. The smirking face of Lucius Malfoy. Afterwards, there was nothing but darkness.

July 2, 1996....

"How long do you reckon til Mum figures out that we aren't really cleaning the garage?" Fred asked, as he and George lazily watched the sky roll by from the top of a hill nearby the Burrow.

"I give it an hour. Maybe two if we get lucky," George replied, chewing on a piece of straw. He rolled over onto his stomach and propped his head onto his Twin's bare chest. "I wanna stay here all day with you." He closed his eyes. "You make a very nice pillow."

Fred chuckled, causing a pleasant rumble to go throughout his body. "Go to sleep. I'll wake you up later." He ran his hand through his brother's soft golden red locks.

"T'anks," George mumbled, kissing his Twin's chest and then falling into a light sleep.

Fred watched George sleep through half lidded eyes for about an hour, thinking nothing could ruin the moment. Here he was, on a nice summer morning, with his soulmate, and nothing that would cause it to go wrong. Of course, something did.

"Help," a voice called out weakly. "Help," it repeated.

At first, Fred thought he was just hallucinating. But the voice repeated it's request for help again. Carefully, Fred gently shook his younger Twin awake. "Oi George. Wake up." George stirred but didn't wake. "Come on you wanker. Wake up!"

George yawned and woke. "What you prat?"

"I heard some noises. It sounded like someone calling for help," Fred said, getting up. He pulled on his discarded shirt and gave George a hand up. "Come on. Let's go investigate."

"You're starting to sound like Ronniekins friends," George said, slipping his shirt on. "See or hear anything and go rushing into it blindly. True Gryffindor qualities," George teased.

Fred grinned and got his wand out. "We are Gryffindors aren't we dear Twin of mines?"

"That we are," George said, taking out his wand and following Fred down the hill. At the bottom of hill, they found one of the most unexpected sights they had ever seen.

Draco Malfoy laid bleeding from head to toe clutching at his wand pathetically and crying. "Help," he said, before passing out.

Fred looked at George and George looked at Fred. "What do you reckon we do with him?" Fred asked.

"Get him to Mum, I guess," George answered, mumbling a levitation charm and lifting Draco's body so that it would follow them back to the Burrow.

The Afternoon Before....

"I've had it with you and your doings!" Narcissia yelled at Lucius, as she paced in front of him. "I tolerated your connections with Voldemort and I have lied for you during Merlin knows how many trials and questionings! But I will not let you turn my baby into you! The Dark "Lord" can forget about having Draco as a follower!"

Lucius smiled one of his nasty smiles and said, "My dear. You should do quite well to remember who you are talking to. One such as yourself should not cross me. You won't do so again, when I get through with you." He looked at his wristwatch. "But alas, I shall teach you your lesson when I return. The Dark Lord has requested my presence." He stood and walked to the fireplace.

Narcissia screeched. "I will not listen to you anymore Lucius. By the time you get back here, expect me and Draco gone!"

"I highly doubt that," Lucius said. "No one leaves me alive." He disappeared into the fireplace, after calling out, "Riddle Manor!"

Narcissia sighed and rubbed her hand against her forehead. "Draco, come in here. I know you're out in the hall." She smiled as a sheepish looking Draco came into the drawing room. "How much did you hear?"

"Just enough to know that we're as good as dead, if we don't get out of here now," Draco said.

"Then go pack your bags. We must be gone before he gets back. No doubt Voldemort will set a price on our heads," Narcissia said more to herself than Draco.

"All right," Draco said, going to pack.

Narcissia sighed. "Cissi, I hope you know what you are doing."

"When do you think he'll wake up Mum?" George asked, looking curiously at Draco. Draco was lying in Percy's old bed, his body healed of all cuts and bruises and clean of dirt and blood. Fred had managed to clothe him in some of Percy's old pajamas.

"I don't know dear," Molly said, chewing her hair worriedly. "You're father should be back from the Ministry to tell us what is going on." She draped Draco in another blanket, since the blond seemed to be shivering nonstop. It wasn't a surprise, considering that he might have been out in the cold rain the whole night. Molly watched him with apprehension. "Poor dear. I can't imagine what has happened to him."

Fred wrapped an arm around his mother's shoulder. "Don't worry Mum. He's safe now, isn't he George."

"Right O," George said. He heard some noise from the kitchen. "Dad's back." He raced downstairs with Fred. Molly followed more slowly.

"Hello Weasleys," Arthur greeted his family less than enthusiastically. Ron and Ginny were spending the summer at Hermione's house with Harry and Percy had moved into Oliver's apartment ages ago. Bill was still curse breaking in Egypt and Charlie was still dragon chasing in Romania.

"What do you know, Arthur?" Molly asked impatiently. "What's going on at Malfoy Manor?"

Arthur sat down and sighed. "It seems that Lucius has announced himself as a true Death Eater and has killed Narcissia Malfoy last night for not allowing him to raise Draco as a Death Eater. It also seems that Narcissia sent Draco here by Portkey before getting killed. This is information we gained from a Death Eater in custody, from the raid at the Manor last night. Malfoy got away and we don't have a clue where he is."

"The poor child," Molly said sadly. "His father has killed his mother, who saved his life just before she was killed. He'll be in an awful state when he wakes up."

Arthur sighed. "Yes he will." Arthur inhaled gently before saying, "The Ministry doesn't know what to do with him, since all his relatives are currently unavailable or indisposed. They have asked us to care for him while they try to set something up."

"You mean Malfoy's going to be staying with us?" George asked, suddenly speaking up from his seat at the breakfast table.

"Yes," Arthur answered. "That's exactly what I mean. I expect you boys to be kind to him."

"Unless you want to be on restriction for the whole summer," Molly threatened.

"We'll play nice, Mum," Fred promised. "We aren't going to pick on him because of everything that's already happened to him."

"We aren't that cruel," George added.

"Good," Molly said getting up. "Now, go finish cleaning the garage like you two promised. Your father and I must set up some protective wards."

"It won't be necessary," Arthur said. "No one but a handful of trusted people know where Draco is. No doubt his father will be after him and will have a price on his head. Lucius doesn't know where Draco is though. And it will stay like that, though I guess it's better to be safe than sorry."

"Yes," Molly said, ushering her sons out of the kitchen. "Better safe than sorry." She whipped her want out. "Let's get started."

"We aren't actually gonna clean the garage, are we?" George asked, as he and Fred walked out of the Burrow.

"We'll have to," Fred said. "Mum said she and dad will be putting up wards around the place, so they'll come by the garage sooner or later. Then they'll see we aren't there and make us really clean the garage and the attic."

George sighed. "I really hate cleaning the garage. It's really a pain."

"Yeah," Fred said. "We don't even have Ronniekins to bribe to clean the garage."

George frowned. "Damnit." He grinned brightly. "But I get to see you without a shirt then!"

Fred laughed. "I knew it! It was a ploy to get me without my shirt all along!"

George grinned and hugged the older Twin from behind. "Yup! That's totally it."

"Well, in order to see me without my shirt, I insist that you take off your shirt also," Fred said.

"Never!" George said. He paused a minute. "Okay, maybe I will."

"I knew you would see it my way," Fred said. He opened the garage door with some help from George and they both coughed at all the dust that came flying at them. They looked into the garage and then at each other in dismay. The garage was piled with boxes upon boxes with stuff spilling out from everywhere. The Ford Angela that Ron and Harry had jacked had been found and was now resting in the garage, making it even more cluttered. "I reckon that if we start now, we'll be done, in say, the year 2006?"

George nodded. "Yup. This is going to take ten years. Let's get started." They both put on determined faces and headed into the garage.

Eleven Years Ago....

"Mummy? Do I really have to become one of those Death Eatey things like Father?" A young five year old Draco asked, as he sat on his mother's lap. "They scare me and hurt people." They were in the sunroof, enjoying the afternoon together.

"No Draco. I promise you don't have to become on them, as long as I live." Narcissia gently rubbed her son's head, mussing his hair. Draco gave a indignant squawk of protest and put it back into place. Narcissia laughed.

"Promise Mummy?" Draco asked.

"Promise," Narcissia said, kissing Draco's temple.

"I don't believe it," George said. "We did it! We cleaned the mess known as the garage! We can do anything now! We can take over the world!"

Fred laughed at his Twin's enthusiasm and pulled him toward his body, where he was sitting on the Ford. He wrapped his arms around his Twin's waist and pressed their bare chests together. "I think we should celebrate." He rubbed his nose against George's.

George grinned, then pressed his lips into a thin line. "What if Mum or Dad comes by?"

"I say ten to one that they already know," Fred said. "Plus, it's not like we're in the Muggle World. It's accepted here."

George looked hesitant. "I still don't get what's so special about Magical Twins."

"They say that Twins wielding Magic are more powerful than an average Witch or Wizard," Fred said.

George sighed. "I know that. It's just, we don't seem that special."

"You prat, who got the best Potions grade in their year?" Fred asked, picking up and placing his Twin on the car, while he stood in the circle created by George's legs.

"Me," George said.

"And who got the best Charms grade in their year?" Fred asked.

"You," George answered.

"And which two handsome devils tie for best Transfiguration grade in their year?" Fred asked teasingly.

"Us," George said, grinning.

"So I say we are above average," Fred said. "And I know for a fact that Mum and Dad don't care about our relationship." He licked his Twin's neck.

"Go on," George moaned, tangling his fingers into his Twin's hair as Fred bit George's neck.

"Remember a few nights ago, when we were shagging?" Fred asked.

"Yeah," George moaned as Fred's mouth dipped lower to capture a nipple.

"Remember we were too lazy and tired to clean up and put some pants on, so we just went to sleep?" Fred asked, giving George's right nipple the same treatment he had given the left one.

"Y-yeah," George said, shakily.

"I woke up a little before you and saw Mum standing there with Dad, both looking shocked. I was going to wake you so we could panic together, but Mum shook her no. So I let you sleep and I followed Mum and Dad to the family room, after putting some pants on and making sure I looked presentable," Fred said, stopping his ministrations to look up at George from between his knees. George showed no emotions, besides lust, and nodded for his Twin to go on. "We talked. I told them how long we were together and how long since we first started shagging. I told her the truth, saying we just got together last year and we've only been shagging since before school ended. Mum and Dad just nodded and listened carefully, not judging. I told them that I really did love you and that you did the same and there was this bond we had between us. I continued before they could say anything and said, that if they made us stop seeing each other, we would die. I needed you as much as you needed me," George nodded. They had talked about this before and that was exactly how he felt. "Then Mum told me to shut it and listen to her. She told me she was okay with it. She believed that Twins were indeed closer and since it was all right it the Wizarding world it was okay with them. Dad agreed and then told me to go back to bed. I went to sleep and woke up with you a little while later."

George said nothing for a little while. "Well, you should have woke me," he said, after a few moments.

Fred nodded. "Yeah, I know."

"And you should have told me sooner," George said.

Fred nodded again. "Yeah, I should have."

"But what's done is done and get back to making me happy," George said, crushing his lips against his Twin's.

"Yes Sir," Fred said, grinning, all puffy lipped and red in the face as they pulled away moments later. He initiated the kiss that time.

"Oh dear," a voice said. "I guess Fred told George that we know."

The Twins pulled away to find their parents in the door of the garage, wands in their hands. It was Molly that had spoken. They both blushed in embarrassment. "Come boys," Arthur said, smiling. "We're fine with it. You're just like any other couple. We'll get out of your hair as soon as we're done putting up the wards. And wow, this place looks spectacular!" A few minutes later, the wards were in place. "I'll go start on the property edges." He walked away, heading toward the hill that the Twins had found Draco at.

Molly paused before going to stand near her sons. She hugged them both. "Congratulations," she whispered, kissing them on the cheeks. She wiped away tears before smiling at them and following Arthur to where he was at the hill.

Fred looked at George, while George looked at Fred. It was a minute before they both broke out into grins and laughter. "Well," Fred said. "At least we don't have to listen to Mum threatening us about getting a girl into trouble." They both broke out into identical laughs.

Dream....

"Mummy," Draco cried. He was all alone in the dark. "Don't leave me!" He was holding out his hand to a glowing woman, who was turned around. Draco knew it was his mother, even though he could not see the lady's face.

"I have to go. I said I would protect you as long as I lived," the lady said in a eerily calm voice. "I cannot protect you any longer. You're father made sure of that."

"What will I do?" Draco asked pitifully. "I love you and you're the only one that cares about me."

"That is not true. Many people love you. You shall see that for yourself soon," the lady said. She turned around and it was indeed Narcissia Malfoy. "I have to go now. The Weasley's will watch over you now. Wear that ring I gave to you as a Portkey. It will show brightly when I am near and warn you of danger by turning indigo. I love you my little Dragon. I love you Draco." She squeezed Draco's hand before drifting away toward a white light.

"I love you Mummy," Draco whispered. He watched as she entered the white light that became to bright to look at. There was a flash and then nothing.

July 9....

"Fred! That tickles!" George giggled, as Fred attacked his ultra sensitive ear.

"I know," Fred said simply, before biting down on the ear. They were trying to get to their room before they lost control and just ripped off each other's clothes and shagged in the middle of the hall.

They leaned against the wall as they attacked each other with kisses. A noise from Percy's old room made them pause in mid-kiss. "Eh? What was that?" George asked. "I thought Malfoy was still asleep. You think he woke up?"

"Dunno," Fred answered, untangling himself from his Twin. He brought out his wand. "Let's be Gryffindors and go find out." George grinned and brought out his wand also. They stood in front of the slightly ajar door, before silently counting to three and jumping in and making noises like barbarians.

Draco looked at them, from where he was sitting up in the middle of Percy's bed, in bemusement. "Done yet?" Draco asked, when the Twins had stopped yelling nonsense. The Twins looked at each other sheepishly and then nodded at Draco. "Good. Where am I and what happened?"

"Er," Fred said, deciding to be the one to do the talking. "You're at the Weasley's house, the Burrow. And, er, you're manor was attacked last night by a bunch of Death Eaters." He didn't want to be the one to tell Draco about his mother.

George looked down at the floor then to Draco. "You're mother was killed."

Draco's eyes became steel. "I know. I saw it before the Portkey sent me away. Lucius was the one to do it, wasn't he?" The Twins nodded. "Why am I here?"

"You're mother sent you here by Portkey," George answered. "We found you about a week ago by the hill and brought you in. You had a fever and have been in and out of it since you got here. Mum's been worried sick."

"Where's Lucius?" Draco demanded.

"No one knows. Not even the Death Eaters the Aurors caught at the raid at your manor that night," Fred said.

"Oh," Draco said, not letting any emotions loose.

"You're staying with us for the summer, while people try to figure out what to do about your situation," George said.

"You mean that I have to stay here with Weasel?" Draco asked.

"If you mean Ronniekins, then yeah," Fred said, grinning.

Draco moaned in horror and covered his face with his palms. "This is absolutely the worse thing that has ever happened to me!"

George elbowed Fred in the stomach. "Don't worry. Fred's a arsehole. Ron's gonna be gone all summer. He's gonna be at Hermione's house."

Draco sighed in relief. "Thank Merlin. I never thought I would ever be happy for having Granger exist." His stomach growled.

"Hungry Malfoy?" Fred asked, grinning.

Draco flushed and nodded a bit. "We'll get you something to eat," George said, dragging Fred out of the room.

Draco sighed. "Why did it have to be the Weasleys? Why?"
