Chapter 12 - The Next Marauders

 

Next day it was Sunday, and since they had no homework, they decided to make the Animagus potion.

They used the little kitchen for the fire, and used Hermione’s old cauldron to make it in.

When they added the ingredients, they found out that they missed some stuff. Harry took the invisibility cloak and the Marauders map to steal some from Snape’s privet collection. Snape wasn’t in the castle, he probably was buying some new stuff in a special potion shop. Harry had to use a spell to enter the room, and found all the ingredients he needed, then he saw a jar with Floo powder, he didn’t like Floo powder, but it could be handy, he thought, and took it with him. He went back to their dorm as quickly as possible, because he didn’t like being in the dungeons, and if someone noticed him being there, although he was invisible, it won’t be good. He looked on the map, and ran upstairs. As soon he was inside their dorm, he took of the cloak, and handed the ingredients to Hermione. He put the jar with Floo powder next to the fire place.

"Why did you take that?" Ron asked.

"I thought it could be handy some time." Harry answered.

"Good idea," Karlien said, "we can use this fireplace to leave this room, but can’t use this fireplace to enter this room, it’s protected against it. Even Phoenixes can’t reappear here."

"Well, we can use the common room’s fireplace to come back." Hermione said, while she was working on the potion.

Ron was helping Hermione with the potion, and Harry and Karlien were playing chess.

"I’ve got to practice the spell once more" She thought to Harry

"Why?" he asked.

"Because doing the spell is more difficult when you want to become a magical creature." She answered.

She began to practice, Harry practised too, because he wanted to be sure nothing could go wrong.

The spell was more difficult then the Patronus spell, you had to concentrate on several things, which made it very confusing.

 

Finally the potion was ready, and Harry and Karlien knew the spell by heart now.

Ron put the potion in four goblets, and added the pieces of animals.

"We won’t be able to talk for an hour, so if you change back, cast the spell immediately, don’t wait for the other to change back, okay?" Harry asked.

The others nodded.

They all drank the potion.

Harry felt his body change in the body of a lion. Hermione got wings, and changed into an owl, Karlien also got wings, and changed into a Phoenix.

Ron however, didn’t got wings, and didn’t change in a bat, but in another animal, the bat hair, must have been other hair.

Ron saw on every side of his head, he had eight eyes, and it made him so dizzy, he couldn’t see anything, so he also didn’t see he had become a giant spider.

"What the…" Harry thought to Karlien, which they were still able to do.

"I think something went wrong, I think it was Acromantula hair on the mask." She thought.

"Let’s just hope he doesn’t perform the spell." Harry thought.

Hermione was looking at him in shock, but Ron still couldn’t see anything.

 

After almost an hour, Ron changed back early, and performed the spell immediately, as he was told to. The others tried to stop him, but they were still in their animal shape.

Then the others changed back, and performed the spell. All of them were Animagus now.

"Ron! Why did you perform the spell???" Hermione yelled.

"Why not? Harry said we had to perform it immediately."

"Couldn’t you think for yourself? You weren’t the animal you were supposed to be!" She yelled.

"I couldn’t see, I was to dizzy to see," Ron said afraid, "which animal was I?"

"No wonder you were dizzy, you had eight eyes! Ron, you were a giant spider, you looked just like Aragog!" Harry said. "You changed into an Acromantula!"

Ron was shocked, "What do I have to do to change into the animal I fear most?" he asked.

"Just concentrate on that animal, like this." Hermione said, and with a ‘plop’ she changed into an owl just like Hedwig, because they had taken a feather from Hedwig. She flew around their dorm, and changed back to her normal look.

"Well, it won’t be hard to think about it, because that animal keeps haunting through my head since I met Aragog three years ago." He said, and he concentrated on Aragog, and suddenly he was a giant spider, he was still dizzy, but he was starting to get used to eight eyes. It was very strange to see the front of him, the left, right and back. He was seeing 360 degrees, it was very strange, but handy. But not only that, he could also see through objects, he saw the common room behind him, and looked out the castle, but there was no window where he was looking at. He looked down, and saw eight giant hairy legs "Is Mad-Eye Moody’s eye an Acromantula eye?" He asked, still in his Animagus shape, because Acromantulas are capable of human speech.

"I dunno," Hermione said, "why do you ask?"

"Because I can see through things, just as he can." Ron said.

"What? You can see through everything? And every direction?" Harry said impressed.

"Yes, I can. Harry, change in a lion, I want to see you in your lion shape." Ron said, and he changed back to a human.

Harry thought about a lion, and changed into a giant male lion, which looked just like the Gryffindor lion. He gave a loud roar, and changed back to a human.

The roar had impressed the others, especially Karlien.

But then they all looked to Karlien, and she got the hint, they wanted her to change into a Phoenix.

She thought about Fawkes, and changed into a beautiful scarlet Phoenix, she flew a bit, and tried to cry, which went more easily then when you try to make tears as a human, she could just active her tears, like normal people can open their mouth, or some other simple moves. She wanted to try to disappear, and reappear, so she changed back, and asked the others if they could go to a privet place, where she could try it.

"Let’s use the invisibility cloak, and go to a class room, they should be empty now, but I’ll check on my map to be sure." Harry said.

He did, and all the class rooms were empty. They left to the nearest class room.

 

When they arrived, Harry checked the map again, and entered the room, he closed the door.

"Do any of you know what to do when you want to apparate?" Karlien asked.

"Simple, just concentrate on the place you want to go, and you’ll go there, but you must perform a spell before you’re able to do it, just like you need to perform a spell to become Animagus, and you CAN’T apparate her in Hogwarts." She said.

"Phoenixes can." Karlien said.

She looked at the Marauders Map, and saw the transfiguration room was empty. She changed into a Phoenix, and concentrated on the transfiguration room, and suddenly she was there! She was very exited about the fact she could apparate, and she apparated back the others, but she didn’t appear in the room, but in the Great Hall, which was empty, happily, except for some house-elves who were cleaning, and they didn’t even notice a Phoenix flying around.

She used the opportunity to spread her wings, and fly high, at great speed, she flew to the roof, but it didn’t came, suddenly she felt cold air, she looked down, and saw Hogwarts from above the roof, and she saw some entrances on the roof, which weren’t on the Marauders map. She wondered what was in there, and if there were ways of entering them from inside the castle. She decided to go back, because the others must be starting to get worried.

This time, it worked, she was back in the class room, and Ron was in his Animagus form.

Harry was relieved to see her again, because he was starting to wonder where she went.

She told him about flying through the roof of the Great Hall, and seeing the entrances on the roof of Hogwarts.

He checked the map, and the entrances were indeed not on the map.

"Lets go there later." He said.

 

"He guys, I can see there’s something behind this wall, a secret passageway. It goes to…" He stopped, "There are three more, behind every wall is one, that one on front of me goes to the Slytherin common room, on my left goes to our common room, and on my right and back leads to the Hufflepuf and Ravenclaw common room, don’t know how they look like." Ron said.

"Do you recognise people in it?" Hermione said.

He looked to the room behind him, and saw Cho Chang.

"The one to my right leads to the Hufflepuf, and my back to Ravenclaw." He said.

"This is cool! We’ll have to update the Marauders Map! We can discover EVERY secret passage in this castle, I bet that not even half of it is on the Map or known by Filch and Dumbledore." Harry said.

"How do I enter the passageway to our common room?" Harry asked.

"I dunno," Ron said, "We’ll have to find out. But how?"

"Simple," Hermione said, "There’s a spell to find out."

"Nennib reih ki mok oeh" She said, while she hold her wand against the wall.

Letters shoot out of her wand and formed a note, in the air.

 

Hold you wand to the wall, and say ‘Gryffindor’ then you can walk through it. It will only work for the person who cast the spell, others will have to cast it too.

 

"Is their anybody in the common room?" She asked Harry. He looked at the map.

"Nope." He said.

"I’ll try it, you come after me?" Ron said.

"Okay." The others said.

"Gryffindor" he said, while he held his wand against the wall. He walked to the wall, just as he walked when he tried to enter platform nine and three-quarters.

He walked right through it, and stepped into the common room, at the same place as the normal entrance, behind the portrait of the Fat Lady.

 

Karlien had turned into a Phoenix, and disappeared from the room, and appeared in the common room.

 

Harry and Hermione came quickly after them, and they were all back now.

 

"This is so cool!" Karlien said, proud of being an Animagus Phoenix, "I really want to know what’s behind the entrances on the roof."

"Me too," Harry said, "Why don’t you go there and find it out? Hermione can come after you, Ron and I will stay here."

"Why don’t you come with us? I can carry you, we’ll just wear the invisibility cloak when we fly." She said.

"That’s a good idea!" Ron said, "Lets do it!"

Hermione changed into an owl and flew out the window.

The others disappeared under the invisibility cloak, and walk downstairs.

 

When they had left the castle, Karlien changed into a Phoenix, still under the cloak, Harry grabbed her tail, and Ron grabbed his foot. They felt extremely light. She flew up, and soon they were on the roof, where Hermione was waiting for them.

 

The doors turned out to be normal doors, which you can open like a muggle door.

Inside was a lot of old junk. Old desk, portraits which were ruined, old library books, four posters, some robes and hats.

"This is just a storage place for old junk!" Harry said, disappointed.

 

They all looked if they could find something special, but there was nothing, in the cupboards were old plates and goblets, and there were hundredths of trunks, each of them had a year on it, it started with 769-770 end ended with 2000-2001, in it were test of students, essays, notes taken by teachers.

"Cool! We could take some hundred years old essays, and copy them when we have to make an essay!" Ron said excited.

"Ron!" Was Hermione reaction, sounding angry.

"Let’s see if we can find my parents trunk." Harry said.

They found the trunk 1978-1979 and opened it.

Soon they found Potion essays made by James Potter, Lily Evans, Severus Snape, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, all their essays and tests were in it. Harry looked at some of them, and noticed his father had the same writing as he did, his mothers however, was different, it was beautiful, just as the love-letters she had written for James.

 

When they left, it was already getting dark, dinner was getting served within 30 minutes.

Hermione flew to the owl-wing, and walked to the common room, Karlien carried Harry and Ron back, and they walked back too.

They took a quick shower, and pulled on other clothes, because they were all dusty from all the old stuff in the Hogwarts attic.

The headed down to the Great Hall, and had dinner. Pasta.
