Chapter 13 - The Christmas Invitation.

 

Soon it turned December and it began to snow.

Domestic Science was going great, they could cook several things now.

They learned how to wash clothes, and now they were starting to take care of your body. How to cut your nails, wash your hair, make up (not for the boys), brush your teeth, and all that without water or something like that, just with your wand.

 

DADA went great too, they all knew how to handle werewolves, sheelas, vampires and what to do if they run into a manticore, run and pray.

 

Care of Magical creatures went well, they had finished Phoenixes, and now had started on Dragons, Hagrid wasn’t allowed to have a real dragon, so they had to do it without a show model. Hagrid told them about his experiences with dragons, but he didn’t tell them that the experiences he was talking about, had been right here at Hogwarts in their first year, with Norbert.

 

In Herbology they were handling poisonous plants. Transfiguration was about human enlargement and the opposite of that. In Charms they were doing self-strengthening charms, which were really hard. And Potions was just as horrible as it always had been.

Besides their normal homework, they were already relearning things from previous years, because they were starting O.W.L.s this year, they would have test about all the things they learned at Hogwarts so far. They only were in May, but they had to learn so much, they were already learning now.

 

One day, in the week before the holidays, they were having breakfast, and as normal, the owls came to deliver letters. Karlien got a letter from her parent. She got them more often, but this one was special.

 

Dear Karlien and friends.

 

We are visiting our relatives in Holland this Christmas, and Karlien comes with us. We would like to invite you to come with us and meet our relatives. We’ll be sleeping in our old house, which we still own. We’ll go visiting famous places in Holland, and you can of course spent time together doing whatever you want.

On Christmas eve, we’ll have dinner with the whole family, and there is a skate event on the WSA. On Oud en Nieuw (that’s how we call the moment the years change), we will be have fireworks.

Please let us know with how many people you will come as soon as possible.

"Cool!" Harry, Ron and Hermione said together. They all wanted to go to Holland since Karlien told all the stories about it.

Suddenly something terrible crossed Harry’s mind.

"My protection! Will Dumbledore agree with it?" Harry asked.

"Let’s ask, he’s over there having breakfast." Ron said.

 

They walked to Dumbledore, who was talking to Sirius.

"Good morning, can I help you?" Dumbledore asked friendly.

"Yes, you can. We’ve got this Christmas invitation to go to Holland this holiday, to visit Karlien’s relatives. But we need your permission for it." Harry said nervously.

"You can go, but we’ll have to perform some spells for your own protection. Can you stay here when dinner’s over?" He asked.

"Of course we will." Hermione said.

 

The day went faster than normal, In the morning they had History of Magic, they were learning Hogwarts headmasters now.

After Lunch the went to have DADA, and that was great, because Remus and Sirius were in the Christmas spirit already, and they were only having fun, instead of learning. And Potions was cancelled because Snape had a cold and couldn’t teach therefor.

 

Instead of potions, they were having a major snow fight. They Boys against the Girls. The boys were far more better, but they were still having fun. Later the Hufflepuf and Ravenclaw fifth years joined them.

When all the lessons were over, the whole school except the Slytherins joined the fight. The faculty was watching from a distance, but that didn’t stop Fred and George from sending some snowballs towards them by magic. Dumbledore dodged the balls because he knew something like that was coming, all the others didn’t and all of them were hit right in the face. Hagrid made a giant snow ball, and threw it to Fred and George, who were fully covert with snow now. Dumbledore laughed very hard at this, and magiced a giant snowman, which was higher than Hagrid. McGonagall magiced it to life, and the snowman started to fight the students in the name of the faculty.

 

After dinner, everybody went to their dorms, Harry and his friends stayed in the Great Hall, Dumbledore and Sirius entered, and asked them to follow him to Dumbledore’s study.

 

"I’ll perform the Fidelius charm on you. The Fidelius charm will put the secret of you going to Holland, into a living soul, there’s no way to find out the secret, except when the secret-keeper gives away the information. It’s your choice who will be the secret keeper, Sirius or me." They all chose Sirius.

"Okay, I want you all to think about where your going, Sirius, you too.

Ready?" He said.

"Yes" They answered.

"Fidelio" Dumbledore said, while he pointed his wand at Harry and his friends. A bolt of light flew from their bodies to Dumbledore’s wand, then he pointed his wand at Sirius, and the bolt of light flew to Sirius.

"You’re ready to go now." He said. And they left.

 

Soon, the morning of their departure arrived.

They packed all the stuff they needed, and placed it in the common room. House-elves immediately carried the trunks downstairs.

After breakfast, they went to the train, which left shortly after they had arrived at the station. The other Weasley’s stayed at Hogwarts, because their parents were visiting Bill in Egypt. They had money for that now. They had taken money from Harry safe, exchanged it into Dutch muggle money, and sent it to him. Hermione got money from her parents, and Ron got money from his parents. Everybody had some pocket money now.

Sirius and Remus had explained them how they made the Marauders map. But they wanted to know how they found so many ‘new’ secret passages. Coincidence, they had said. But Sirius and Remus wouldn’t believe that. And they had told a story that they were studying the map, and saw some strange things on it, they investigated it, and found the secret passages. They believed that story, and explained how they made the map, and how to update it.

Now they were updating it. Karlien draw the updates, and Hermione magiced them ‘to life’.

They noticed that the map also worked when they weren’t on Hogwarts ground.

They had a very enjoyable day, and after a long trip, they arrived at Kings Cross. Karlien’s parents were waiting for them. They kissed Karlien, and hugged the others.

Klaas had a magical car, and they all, together with their trunks, fitted in the car, which was very large a luxurious from the inside, but was a Mini from the outside.

"How are doing?" Brigitte asked the kids.

"Great, we are having the time of our life at Hogwarts." Karlien said.

"How are you and Harry doing?" She asked, curious about her daughters love life.

"Great, it’s still on, we’re meant for each other." Harry said.

"I don’t believe in the meant-for-each-other thing, it can’t be proved," She answered, "but I’m glad to hear that it’s still on."

"Don’t argue with her, if she doesn’t believe in something, she never will. Believe me, I’ve tried a thousand time to convince her, not only about this, but about more things." Karlien thought to Harry.

"Okay" he thought back.

 

They talked about their own room, about the Quidditch match, about Harry the baby house-elf, about the incident with Malfoy, about Fudge. Her parents were shocked, they didn’t knew about Fudge, they thought he was just sick, just as Crouch was last year. Who turned out to be dead too.

"My father is Minister of Magic now." Ron said proud.

 

They soon arrived at Privet Drive, Harry had almost forgotten how that looked like in the winter, when there was snow. The Dursleys weren’t home.

"Where are the Dursleys?" Harry asked.

"Getting Dudley out of school, they should arrive any moment now." Brigitte said.

At that very moment, they heard a car, racing through the street, the Dursleys had arrived.

They got out the car at the same moment.

The Dursleys didn’t notice Harry and his friends until Harry called:

"He Dudley! How are you doing?"

"Don’t tease him, it’s almost Christmas." Karlien thought to Harry.

"Almost, not yet, so I can tease him." Harry thought back.

Dudley ran into the house, and uncle Vernon was furious with Harry.

"Don’t worry, I’ll leave soon!" Harry called.

"When are we leaving?" Harry asked Brigitte.

"Tomorrow morning." She answered.

 

"We’re going to have fun with them tonight!" Harry whispered in Karlien’s ear.

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"You’ll see." He whispered.

 

They had a delicious dinner, Klaas had made pancakes. They had a long talk about the time the spend at the Weasleys house.

When it was midnight, they went to bed.

When Harry was sure everyone was asleep, he woke up Karlien, who was asleep already, and told her about his plan.

 

"Great idea," she said, "Let’s get the invisibility cloak right now."

They grabbed the cloak, and silently walked down, and left the house. When they were at the door of the Dursleys, Karlien turned into a Phoenix, and disappeared, she appeared in the house, and opened a window to let Harry in.

They silently walked to Dudley’s room, and went inside. Harry changed into a lion, and left the cloak.

There was a lion walking to Dudley’s bed, where Dudley was snoring loudly.

Harry shacked Dudley.

"What’s the matter, honey?" he said sleepy, with his eyes closet.

"Honey? Does he have a girlfriend? UNBELIEVABLE!!!" Harry thought to Karlien.

"Probably" Karlien answered.

Dudley still had his eyes closed and wasn’t fully awake. But Harry ended that when he gave a loud roar. Dudley opened his eyes, and saw a large lion standing at his bed. He screamed and fainted. Harry changed back, and disappeared under the invisibility cloak.

Vernon and Petunia were awake now, and ran to Dudley’s room.

"What’s the matter honey?" Petunia asked.

"Enervate" Harry whispered very silent, pointing his wand to Dudley, who woke up.

"A a a a a a a a li-li-li-li-lion in my r-r-r-r-r-r-r-room." Dudley said, shacking.

"You must have had a nightmare," Petunia said, "You’re just afraid because al those wizards next door, there was NO lion in your room, I promise."

"O yes, there was" Harry thought to Karlien.

She laughed.

 

Harry and Karlien left, while Vernon and Petunia were still comforting Dudley.

When they had left the house, they were lying on the ground with laughter. Harry couldn’t breath anymore, and all his ribs felt broken. He had never laughed like this in his whole life.

When he was back to normal again, he changed once more into a lion, and gave one last roar, making sure all the Dursleys had heard him. They quickly went back to Karlien’s home and went back to her room. They could hear Ron and Hermione not being asleep in the spare bedroom. It was an old bed, so it made a lot of sound.

"They’re having their own fun, lets do the same!" Harry thought to her.

And they did, but they were smart enough to make the room soundproof.
