Chapter Five

Cody unlocked the door to his cabin on the steam ship slowly as not to wake the sleeping Brian in his arms. The child had fallen asleep on the plane after eating the whole of gummy worms. He laid the child on the first bed he came to then went back to the hallway to get what little luggage he had brought.

He paused at the open door to Brain's door, looking at the sleeping child. He wasn't particularly fond of little kids. Actually, he hated them. The only reason he put up with Brian was the promise of a reward from his master. He had no idea why Voldmort wanted him and didn't care. He had promised to bring him the child in good shape for whatever purposes he had with him.

His head snapped around, hand flying to his wand in his pocket. He had heard the distinctive sound of someone apparating or disapparating. He heard a muffled voice coming from the living room area. He slowly and silently crept toward the living room keeping close to the wall.

He stopped at the end of the wall, craning his neck trying to see who was there. He let out a breath of relief as he recognized the voices of Lucius Malfoy and his wife Narcissca. He paused trying to figure out what they were talking about. He came around the corner once he realized they were only arguing.

"What are you all doing here?" he asked smiling.

"Just decided to check and see how you were doing," Lucius said coolly.

I bet you were. I don't trust you and you know it. Sow why are you and how do you know where I was?

He voiced the last question aloud. "We didn't know. Voldemort put the image in our heads of where to apparate to. You'd have to ask him that."

"I'll pass, thanks," Cody said sighing. "Why would you need to check to see how I was doing? Does he think I can't handle a three year old?"

Narcissca answered this time. "We don't why he said to, but he did. Let us see the child and then we'll leave. We don't want to be here anymore than you want us here," she said coldly.

"Fine," Cody snapped matching her tone. He turned and left the room heading back down the hallway. "There he is. Will you leave now?"

"In a minute," Narcissca said brushing past him. She sat lightly down on the side of the bed and felt the child's forehead.

"Don't wake him. I don't want to have to deal with a cranky kid," Cody said icily.

"I'm not going to wake him. I know how to check these things without waking him. I do have a son, remember?"

Of course he remembered. How could he forget the little brat? He had been over at their mansion one afternoon and the brat had decided it be amusing to set a very vicious dog on him. He still had the scars to prove it.

"Alright we can leave now. Good-Bye, Cody."

She and Lucius both apparated away.

"Remus, can I please turn it? The news is boring," Harry whined at his guardian.

"You can turn it, but you may not. The news can be very informative, which is the main reason I got the television in the first place. It wasn't for you to watch whatever you wanted whenever you please. When the news is over you can turn it, agreed?"

Harry nodded mouth to full of cereal to talk. He had only got up a half hour ago at 11:30. He tuned the television out and continued eating. It was almost over when something they were saying caught his attention.

"A young child has vanished from his home recently. The son of the ambassador of India was discovered missing this morning. Police have no idea who took the child, or why. There was no sign of forced entry, or of a struggle. They are doing everything in their power to find the child." The reporter paused and a picture of Brian flashed on the screen. "If you see this child please contact your local police. If you have any information on where he might be call the number at the bottom of your screen. There will be a reward for anyone having information on his whereabouts."

Harry's mouth dropped open, spoon hung in mid air halfway to his mouth.

Brian's been kidnapped???? How could that have happened? They'll never find him with the muggle police looking for him. Who would wan to kidnap him?

Harry was brought out of his thoughts by Remus addressing him. "Harry, are you alright? What did they say on the TV?"

"Remember me telling you about Brain?" Remus nodded. "He's been kidnapped." Harry told him what the reporter said as Remus sat down on couch beside him.

"Maybe the person wants money for ransom. If his father is the ambassador to India that could be why. He's little so there wouldn't be sign of a struggle since the person could just carry him out."

"You... you don't think Voldemort would have him, do you?" Harry said quietly, stomach churning at the thought.

"I don't know. I can't see any reason why he would want him, but you never know with him," Remus replied after a moment.

"Unless he knew I had taken an interest in him, but how he couldn't know that, could he?"

"I don't see how he could know that. Someone will find him. There are people in the muggle and wizard world looking for him so he has twice the chance of being found," Remus assured him.

Harry nodded, but didn't believe him.
