New School Year's Resolutions

I WILL NOT

... behave in manner of crazed stalker around HP a la elbow in butter dish/horrendous 'is my jumper on the cat' remarks.

... behave in manner of crazed stalker when not in HP's presence, ie cross-questioning Ron about HP's taste in socks.

... behave in manner of slightly less crazed stalker by blushing whenever spoken to by HP. (Possibly slight challenge to control flow of blood to face; nb research yoga-type self control exercises).

... behave in manner of sane stalker by monitoring movements of HP.

... behave in manner of stalker at all, but instead affect air of complete indifference.

... open my new Lockhart books for fear of folding/spindling/mutilating objects given to me by HP, but instead share those of fellow Gryffindors (oh dear; slight pre-emptiveness on matter of house will be sorted into, but am planning to leave Hogwarts if not in Gryffindor with HP, so really is rhetorical question)

I WILL

... find good perm hair dye to dye hair different colour that clashes less horribly with blushing. What goes w/ pink???

... be nicer to Percy to gain defender in family now Bill and Charlie have left.

... find out from twins what is mysterious object they use to track everyone in castle, could be v. helpful for tracking HP getting to lessons on time.

... become friends with Hermione G.

... come top in all lessons, but do not inform Mum until am made prefect in 5^th year, therefore avoiding embarrassing family scenes and keeping respect of twins while also impressing rest of family.

... learn more about Quidditch. What exactly is Quaffle??? Off-flight rule.

September 29^th, 1992

HP sightings 3, number of gaps in memory 2.5 (good), positive comments about my appearance/character/worthiness as person 2 (thank you Tom)

Sat next to Colin Creevey in Charms again today. Showed me signed photo of Lockhart & Harry, well was meant to be, but Harry didn't seem to want to get into photo ha ha. Told him it wasn't a patch on the collection of photos I have at home from summer at the Burrow (none of mine signed, but feel that is all for the best re. avoidance of screaming fangirl persona). CC contended that I had an unfair advantage re. proximity to HP over summer, and I was just about to reply in manner of dignified orator when Flitwick noticed that we seemed to be v. keen on our convo rather than practicing Wingardium Leviosa. "We're not in the business of those sort of charms in this class, Miss Weasley!" he commented with knowing look at me. Grrrr. Wish could explain that CC and I have only ever communicated over our shared interest in Harry & otherwise have nothing else in common. Wish had different desk partner other than CC. In fact would be quite nice to have desk to self.

October 1^st, 1992

HP sightings 2, number of Hagrid's roosters killed 5, number of sets of my robes ruined 1, number of patronising comments by Percy 1 (av. per min), number of gaps in memory 6.

Feel that yoga-type techniques are perhaps abetting my short-term memory loss but at least am no longer blushing so much. Well thought was good thing to have first day in as long as I can remember sans blushes but then Percy told me I was looking 'pale' and made me drink Pepper-Up Potion. Feel cheated. Tried to be nice to P. by collecting small bunch of flowers for him last night & leaving them on his bedside table but though he looked v. chuffed this morning did not seem to connect this to me at all. Really must get on Percy's good side now Bill & Charlie have left home! Hmmm.

October 30^th, 1992

HP sightings 3.5 (last one unconfirmed as only saw from back as heading down corridor, and Justin Finch-Fletchley looks quite a lot like him from the back), number of gaps in memory 5 (v. good!), number of times wanted to kill Percy 1.

You've been v. quiet lately, Tom.

Tried to compliment Hermione on her hair this morning but she seemed to think I was joking. She is v. difficult person to befriend.

October 31^st, 1992 (Halloween)

HP sightings 0 (but may have seen him more - can't remember), gaps in memory 1 (big one), number of cats Petrified 1, number of cats potentially killed by me 0.75 ( Mrs Norris only petrified, so only counts as 0.5, and Mum claims I half-killed the one I put in the watering can for swimming lessons when aged 4, but I think she was exaggerating), number of times I seem to have practiced the spelling of enimies enamies enemies on side of rough book 17, number of times I have practiced the spelling of hier heir 8.

Non-v. good day today. Can't remember Halloween feast then afterwards v. upsetting incident with petrification of Mrs Norris and threatening message on wall. Attempt by Filch to blame HP for crime due to presence at scene of crime. Doesn't make sense to me as if I had been responsible for said threatening message and petrification of Mrs Norris I would not have skulked around at scene of crime with Ron & Hermione but have attended Halloween feast as normal then come in at back of crowd looking shocked and appalled so couldn't possibly be blamed. Also at back of crowd could not possibly be seen as still under 5ft. All this purely speculative, of course.

November 1^st, 1992

HP sightings 0 (but not for want of trying), gaps in memory 0 (v v. good!), positive comments from Tom 11.

Charms with CC once again today. He pointed out that Gryffindor always have Quidditch practice on Tuesdays & he is planning to go along and photograph it. Thought was good idea though do not want to show self as would appear to be crazed stalker, so we have sketched out clever pincer-movement type plan for practice tomorrow. Also v. good as ties in with own resolution to learn more about Quidditch. Note to self: look up def. of quaffle, sloth grip, wronky feint. CC is v. excited about tomorrow and possibility of extended HP sighting. Quite embarrassing really; am glad I'm not so deluded.

November 2^nd, 1992

HP sightings 1 (but disaster), gaps in memory 1, disgust at CC infinite.

Complete failure of plan. CC did not stealthily creep along spectators' seats but jumped up and down snapping away w/ his camera. He's such a stalker. Am ashamed to be associated with him. Luckily was not as was hidden in bushes at far side of pitch. HP looked v. annoyed. CC v. downcast afterwards but serves him right. Have drawn diagram of what would do if had double desk in Charms to oneself. Would be v. useful to be able to have textbook fully open on left side & spare sheets of paper on one's right.

Complimented Hermione on nice robes today. As they have ink stain down one side she def. thought I was joking this time and walked away in huff. Is impossible person to befriend. Don't know what HP sees in her.

November 8^th, 1992

HP sightings 5.5 (excellent, though damn Justin F-F for confusing record), gaps in memory almost total, bar HP sightings, numbers of desks in Charms now belonging to me 2.

Perhaps if get round to buying hair dye for self could also somehow persuade JFF to use it. Would be much less confusing re. HP sightings if he were a blonde.

Also v. sad and upsetting day today, CC petrified and all film in his camera melted, so when de-petrified he will be extra upset that all his stalking has after all gone to waste. V. sad day for all of Gryffindor. Am going to take best stationery to Charms tomorrow as no longer any chance of its falling off desk.

November 10^th, 1992

HP sightings 1, gaps in memory 2, compliments from Tom 4.

Mixed up bottle of shampoo and bleach and presented it as gift to JFF by sneakily arranging for school owl to deliver it to him at breakfast. However he looked deeply unimpressed by gift, said "Can't believe Gran's stooped this low!" and carelessly spilt half of it over poor innocent messenger. School now has blonde owl.

Have decided not to dye own hair, as Tom says red hair is rare and individual and precious. True, if ignore entire family (easy).

December 18^th, 1992

HP sightings 3, unfair and unwarranted accusations of HP (not by self) 1, gaps in memory numerous, compliments from Tom 12 (new record!)

Another v. sad and upsetting day today. JFF petrified along w/ Nearly Headless Nick. V. horrible and worst of all HP managed to be on scene of crime again. Am starting to think he does it on purpose. Maybe is noble and heroic enough to want to take the blame for whichever person is actually perpetrating these attacks. Maybe (unknown to the rest of us, of course) he's actually realised who it is but instead of turning them in has decided that the strength of his feelings for them is such that he'd rather everybody thought he was the Heir of Slytherin. V. good theory - v. plausible! Hmmm. Opinion of HP now even higher than it was before.

Opinion of Hermione has dropped considerably, though. Went to great effort to learn passages from Hogwarts, A History in order to have intelligent conversation with her but when repeated them verbatim she merely said "I can't believe it! So you were the one who had Hogwarts, a History out of the library all this time when we were trying to find out about the Chamber of Secrets! Don't you realise if I'd known about it earlier I might have worked out something by now and saved Justin and Nearly Headless Nick!" Do not like Hermione at all. Has bushy hair and terrible taste in robes.

However, to take a positive angle on these events, is now quite impossible to mistake JFF for HP as one is now lying in hospital wing in petrified state while other is walking around same as usual. Mum always said I knew how to look on the bright side.

January 20^th, 1993

HP sightings 1, gaps in memory 2, compliments from Tom 1 (poor)

P v. secretive at moment. More pompous than usual but also somehow less so. Do not seem to be in his good books yet; he seems somewhat distracted, actually. Hmph. Mum told him to take care of me at my first year at Hogwarts but he hasn't done a v. good job so far.

Tom also not saying much at moment. Feel abandoned and desolate.

January 25^th, 1993

HP sightings 3, gaps in memory 1.

Tom and I had row today. Wanted to know why he was paying less attention to me than usual. Said he'd been v. busy and preoccupied and was sorry. Pointed out he was a diary and what could he possibly be preoccupied with - the slender newish volume of Common Spells and Charms next to him on the shelf? Hmph. Actually wouldn't put it past him. Red binding w/ gold letters could be sexy and provocative I guess for fellow book. Will put him next to Basic Potion-Making instead; green with slight mouldy texture, over 600 pages so decidedly overweight; not at all attractive. (Should have thought of this before). Threatened to stop writing in him & deprive him of human contact, though thought afterwards this might not be particularly effective threat to object made, after all, of paper. Tom was v. cross at this and claimed could not stop writing in him even if wanted to. He thinks he's so irresistible. I'll show him.

January 26^th, 1993

Tom sneered at me again. "Can't stay away, can you?" Have put him in solitary confinement in my bedside cupboard. Think he might be getting on too well with Basic Potion-Making which he says has an inner beauty. He used to say I had an inner beauty. Obviously am not writing this in him but in new notebook borrowed from dormmate. Ha! Am adultress! New one doesn't talk back of course but Tom doesn't need to know this. He probably thinks all books do.

January 27^th, 1993

Tom called me a silly little girl. Too upset to write. Will compose blistering retort for tomorrow. Advantage of him being diary and not person; time to think.

January 28^th, 1993

HP sightings 4, gaps in memory 0 (unusual), words written in Tom 6100

Told Tom that he was inconsiderate, rude, and didn't appreciate all the time and energy I'd poured into our relationship. He said he appreciated it v. much. Did not like his insinuation (handwriting bigger & somehow cockier than usual) so said in manner of aloof ice-queen that I somehow didn't think I would be spending so much time writing in him in the future. Tom pointed out that I'd said that two days ago and so far showed no signs of slackening off. Cracked. Said what was I meant to do, I had no-one to talk to, nobody likes me, Percy and Hermione ignore me, the twins are always teasing me, and even though HP may be supporting me from afar he never seems to talk to me in person. (Why is this???) Tom didn't say anything so I just carried on writing. Then at end he added one line; You see, Ginevra? What would you do without me? Couldn't face writing anything after that so shut him up and went to bed.

January 29^th, 1993

9.00am Flushed Tom down a toilet. Ha!

11.00am Oh God. I miss him.

12.15pm Perhaps will go and check in toilet.

12.17pm No. Must stick to resolution. He doesn't deserve my affection.

1.05pm Will have to turn to HP instead. He's the only one left who cares about me.

February 13^th, 1993

HP sightings 1, gaps in memory 0 (unusual, but new record)

10.10am. Potions class. Dull. Pickling toads for Snape's stocks. Valentine's Day tomorrow! Exciting.

10.15am. Have decided to write valentine's poem for HP in style of deconstructionist post-modern poet using only objects I can see in the room around me.

10.21am. Dark Lord counts. Can see Snape.

February 14^th, 1993 (Valentine's Day)

HP sightings 2, number of valentines received 0, number of valentines sent 1, gaps in memory 1, deliberate gaps in memory (forcing certain events out of mind) 1, compliments from Tom 0 (obviously)

Worst day of life ever. Not only was valentine presented in embarrassing and public manner forcing HP to pretend he had no interest in it whatsoever (if he was too nice to me would raise question of who exactly he might be protecting from accusations of petrifing the other students - HP always so considerate!) but have discovered Tom is in hands of HP! Fortunately due to clever ink-sinking-into-pages-of-diary apparatus that Tom constructed HP will not be able to read previous records, but what if Tom in manner of spurned lover decides to divulge secrets to him???????? Oh God. Oh God. Oh God. May see first draft of valentine with horrible 'His skin is as pale as a sliced Flobberworm' line! Will have to move to Romania with Charlie.

February 15^th, 1993

March 1^st, 1993

HP sightings 2, positive thoughts 0, gaps in memory 0 (I miss those too)

Ron's birthday. Was looking for him earlier and thought had seen red-haired person vanishing into empty classroom so went in after him, but it wasn't Ron, it was Percy, and he was kissing unknown Ravenclaw girl, v. pretty with curly hair! So this explains why he's been so preoccupied all year. Felt desolate & nearly as bad as when Bill first went to Hogwarts (standard of all misery from thereafter, despite me only being 1 year old at the time; was precocious child). Have no nice brothers left, no friends, and no more attacks on students so HP has not been able to be noble and gallant. What is point.

Wonder where HP has put Tom. Don't think Tom has told him any of my secrets, unless HP being particularly tactful. But think attempts at Valentine's poems dating back from September might have been limit even for him, if Tom mentioned them.

March 2^nd, 1993

Went into Gryffindor boys' dormitory and ransacked place until found Tom! Was glad just to have him back & no longer at risk of telling things to HP, did not intend to write in him at all of course but somehow couldn't help giving him a brief message to inform him he was back with me now, not Harry. To great surprise he immediately embarked on a page-long apology for his previous behaviour! V. pleased and of course accepted his amends. V. good idea of subconscious to get rid of him for a while. Playing hard to get in manner of confident attractive girl. Still, have not put him back next to Common Spells and Charms, just in case.

May 1^st, 1993

Never see HP any more but I do see Hermione all the time. Am really v. tired of her hobnobbing with Ron and HP all the time. Percy looked soppy today. Bet he

was thinking about URG (stands for Unknown Ravenclaw Girl... hilarious isn't it? If say so myself, have v. v. good sense of humour).

May 2^nd, 1993

Saw Percy and Urg walking down corridor hand in hand. V. cross. Borrowed Quidditch Through the Ages from library to learn what Quaffle is but fell asleep halfway down first page.

May 8^th, 1993

HP sightings 1, gaps in memory 8, compliments from Tom 17 (!!!)

V. sad and horrible day today for the houses of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. Hermione and Urg petrified causing Quidditch match to be cancelled. All v. upset particularly P, R and HP. HP is such a sweet and loving person.

Sneaked in to see Hermione in petrified state. Have never known her be quiet for so long at a time. Strangely peaceful.

May 16^th, 1993

HP, R and P spending most of time in hospital wing with Hermione and Urg. Not desired results of unfortunate petrification incident that was of course nothing to do with self.

At least still have own desk in Charms. Have decorated it according to pink and cream colour scheme. Prof. Flitwick thinks am in mourning for CC. Good, as always get top marks on Charms homework due to unfortunate circumstances.

Can't imagine what all this is referring to. Am glad HP is so noble and gallant and brave.

A gold star day!

Rescued by HP from clutches of horrible monster and Tom whom I have decided is not v. nice person and unworthy of me. HP had sword of Gryffindor and looked v. gallant and noble. Carried by HP out of Chamber of Secrets and HP seemed v. upset when thought I might be dead. Was not actually quite unconscious on floor of Chamber but thought was good idea to lie there looking helpless and beautiful. Had had time to arrange hair in nice swirling pattern while Tom was calling up the Basilisk so I knew I appeared to my best advantage.

Oh, and HP and Dumbledore found out that it was me attacking students all along, but as they said, really it was all Tom's fault so they have agreed to keep it quiet. V. good. CC, JFF, Hermione and Urg all to be revived. It is good to hear such happy news after such a dark year at school.

Wonder what should wear to end-of-term feast tomorrow?
