Chapter 3: The undercover work.

~You can't change what already happened. But you can make the outcome better.~

James, Remus, and Sirius all walked into the Great Hall, thinking of ways to get Lily to tell them. They walked up to the Gryffindor table and sat down.

Lily looked happier than what James had seen. She didn't look any different to Sirius and Remus; they had been playing Exploding Snap last night. They didn't see why James did care until about five minutes later.

Lily had managed to hide her anguish in time. She knew that they would ask questions and she didn't want to say what she was feeling. I mean, she would always feel that way, even if he didn't return the feelings. She also knew that the entire girl population was after him. And the fact that he had blue eyes and black hair that was gorgeous in the moonlight didn't help. But, the other girls didn't see him with his shirt off. But she was different. She had. In fact, she had spent the night with Jena when it happened.

'~~~~~~ Flashback~~~~~~~~~~~~'

They had been getting ready for a nighttime pool party. Lily was wearing a deep blue two-piece and emerald green wrap. Genie wore a light, light pink one-piece with a white wrap. All the other girls that were there were wearing skimpy two-pieces. Genie and Lily stood out the most, however.

The guys were all wearing something that had "Gryffindor" or Snitches on them, or just plain colour swimming trunks. James was wearing a royal blue pair of trunks with a white t-shirt. In Lily's opinion he had never looked hotter than that.

It was a warm night. Or at least, warm for Britain. They had blankets, however, to those that did get cold. The girls got to open the nighttime fun by getting the first swim. Lily and Genie loved this idea, however; the other girls were afraid to get their hair wet, or break a nail, or ruin their suits. And all night, Lily felt as if his eyes were on her.

He had watched her all night. She stood out, that was for sure. He had never saw her more beautiful. Oh, he had pulled Genie over and asked her who it was. And her answer shocked him. Lily Evans, looked that stunning?! Oh yeah. She did. He had watched her ever since then. No one else had noticed; he didn't feel any different towards her, but she made, James Harry Potter, really notice her.

Lily noticed that an owl was in front of her. She took the letter and opened it. It looked official, like it was something she needed to see.

She took it and opened it. This is what she read:

Dear Miss Evans,

I am sorry to inform you that, in light of these dark days, your mother was killed by Death Eaters unknown to us. It is my sad duty to inform you that you will spend your holiday with your sister, Petunia Dursley. Once again, I am sorry to inform you of this.

She dropped the letter out of sheer surprise. Her mother was dead? How could that be? She kept asking herself this question. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. She got up and ran out of the Hall.

James, Sirius, and Remus looked at each other and nodded. Now was the time to put their plan in action. They got up and walked out, each going their own separate ways.
