The Fox and the Hound

Chapter 4

Sirius went up to the boys' dorm and got a Quick Notes Quill out. He had a feeling that he would need it when he interviewed Lily for James. He noticed a picture that had been taken in their first year.

It had Lily and James in it. James had taken up for Lily when Lucius Malfoy had called her a Mudblood. James had taken his wand out and hexed him. He comforted her afterwards. That would be a memory to be treasured in the years to come. That was the day he knew that they were meant to be together. And he had teased James every day after that.

Remus went down to the Kitchens and told the house-elves that Lily would be down there soon. While he was walking back up to the Great Hall, he pulled out a photograph with James turning Lily's hair pink.

It had stayed in her hair for forty-eight hours. She, in turn, had hexed him something terrible. He chuckled at the memory that happened just last year. You could see that there was something happening between the two. He smiled to himself and put the picture back in his pocket. He picked up his pace to a fast jog. He would need to meet Sirius in the Great Hall in a minute.

Arabella knew exactly where Lily was headed. It had been their place ever since their second year. It was a place inside the girls' dormitory. No one knew about it. Not even the Marauders. She found Lily in there, sobbing.

"Lily, what's wrong?"

"Death Eaters came and killed my mother last night," she said in between sobs.

"Oh, no. They did? That's horrible! What were they thinking? How could they do that?" Arabella said, more to herself as she sat down in shock.

"Yes, here's the letter."

Arabella took the wrinkled letter and read it. She looked over at Lily.

"That's horrible. To think, you have to spend the summer with your sister."

"I know, it's going to be horrible!" Lily wailed.

"Well, convince Petunia to allow you to stay over at my house for the summer."

"Oh, yeah, I'm sure she'll go for that," Lily replied sarcastically.

"Well, I don't know what to tell you Lily. All except it'll get better. But I won't say sorry. That won't make it go away and be as if it never happened. The only thing I can say is that it will get better."

"Don't worry about it. It'll be just fine later on." Lily got up. "Let's go to the kitchens, okay?"

"Okay."

Lily walked out first. Arabella looked at the walls. It had a few pictures of Lily and James. One in particular was, in third year, with a big, black dog licking her face while she slept. It was in the Common Room. In the background, James was laughing like the Slytherins were all in bikinis. Mind you, that wouldn't be pleasant to look at. Me and Remus were at least stifling our laughter, Arabella thought. She walked out as she thought that.

Lily was in the kitchens with James watching her. He was in his Invisibility Cloak. According to Remus and Sirius, everything was going according to plan.

The plan was actually, to ''stalk'' Lily and find out her many ''secrets'' while being inconspicuous. But, since it took time to find out what was wrong, it would be hard. That was where Sirius and Remus came in.
