Interview with a Portrait

Noelle(Reporter)- Hello again, this is Noelle Eyre. Continuing with our Harry Potter series, tonight I am interviewing a lovely portrait of Hogwarts founders or at least most of its founders. Unfortunately Salazar Slytherin could not join us . . .

Godric- And how lucky we are for that.

Helga- He doesn’t mean that. I remember back when they were the best of friends.

Rowena- I do too. It was so long ago. I remember when he left the portrait, it was the same night the real Salazar left.

Noelle- Is that why he could not be hear tonight?

(Godric admires his nails trying to seem uninterested.)

Helga- Yes that is why he is not here. We tried to contact him through the portrait network, but he didn’t answer.

Godric- You two should not have expected an answer. He has not answered in years.

Helga- (burst into tears) It just that . . . I loved him and I thought that he loved me to, but I must have been fooling myself.

Rowena- (Offers her shoulder for Helga to cry on) Godric why do you always have to start? You know how upset Helga gets.

Noelle- (Wants to desperately help in consoling Helga, but how do you help a painting.) I didn’t know you two where an item Helga.

Helga- (Helga nods an then tries to pull herself together.) It started when we were very young. It was just a stupid fling, but it became so much more.

Rowena- Helga, maybe we should change the subject.

Noelle- Okay, Now you just mentioned the portrait network. Exactly what is that?

Godric- The portrait network is a way we portraits talk to one another. We send a message to a portrait hanging by us and they pass the message on and on until it reaches the person it was intended for.

Noelle- That is very interesting. I’m sorry to bring up Salazar again, but could someone clear up why portrait Salazar left?

(Helga leaves the view of the portrait.)

Rowena- Oh, Helga will be all right she just went to the powder room to freshen up. Portrait Salazar left because Salazar left. We portraits can only do what is in the character of the person we are painted of.

Noelle- So were the real Helga and Salazar an item as well?

Godric- No they never reached that level, but after they were seen in the portrait together the real Helga and Salazar could not deny their feelings for each other. The real couple somehow where able to at least keep their hands off of each other.

Rowena- STOP!! It is not nice to talk behind peoples backs.

Noelle- Do either of you know where Salazar is now?

Rowena- He is in the Slytherin wing of the school.

Noelle- Has Helga ever tried to visit his portrait?

Godric- A bunch of times, but she is always caught by that Filch fellow. Dumbledore doesn’t like us traveling through portraits at night, he doesn’t want us to get caught doing anything. (Godric winks and then makes a nudging motion in the painting.)

Rowena- Didn’t I tell you to stop! (Slaps Godric on the shoulder)

(Godric gives her his puppy dog eyes. Rowena cold heart seems to melt. Godric then offers her a hand and they begin to dance across the painting.)

(I wonder if this interview is appropriate for day time T.V.)

Helga- (Return from her trip to the powder room.) Are they at it again.

Noelle- Well I guess that’s all for today. Good-bye world and tune in next week for my interview with a certain werewolf we all love.
