Chapter Eight

"You're awfully quiet." Draco woke Ginny from her thoughts and she smiled at his concerned look.

It was Tuesday, and Ginny should be studying for her Herbology test, but instead she was just daydreaming at the library, sitting in front of a thoughtful Draco.

She was thinking about her conversation with Hermione, and about how Ron looked after talking to Harry. "Everything will be alright now," he had said, a flash of hope in his eyes that night after he was back from the Infirmary.

But the truth was that nothing had happened so far. Harry and Hermione had just become uncomfortable around each other and none of them had brought up the subject.

"Something tells me you're not thinking about carnivorous plants."

Ginny grinned and looked at Draco, wondering if she could tell him what she was thinking. She had told him so many things before.

"What would you say if I told you that Harry and Hermione are becoming very close?"

He didn't answer. Instead, he just stared at her with a blank expression.

"Well?" she insisted.

"Ginny, what do you want me to say? The only advantage I see in them being close is that one well placed curse would finish them both off."

"Draco!" she exclaimed, mad at him.

"I can't pretend I like them, because I don't." Draco smirked. "If they ever kiss, I'll be wishing something big and heavy to fall and smash them."

"As long as you don't make the big and heavy thing fall on them, it's fine by me." Her anger soon passed. How could he do that?

"I won't, and that's the closest of a love declaration you'll get from me."

They laughed, and Ginny felt her body relaxing.

"You're worried about Scarhead and the Mudblood, aren't you?"

"Yes, I am worried about Harry and Hermione," she stressed their names, but he only shrugged. Obviously, he had no intention of letting go of the insulting nicknames. "Why can't they just admit what they feel?"

"Because everything about them has to be dramatic and complicated." Draco sighed. "They can't solve a problem without making a dangerous quest in order to face it. Potter has to make everything big. He can't kiss a girl like any regular boy."

"You're so envious of him!" Ginny laughed, and Draco smirked.

"Envious? Of Potter? You got to be kidding." He rolled his eyes. "What does he have? A complicated situation with an ugly know-it-all, that's what he has." He was then serious again, "But I have you."

Ginny couldn't believe how sweet he could be even when he tried to be a prat - or how rude he could be while trying to be sweet. She thought it would hurt so much to be with him, but the truth was that he was a wonderful person to be around. Well, he didn't like her friends and would always make sure of telling her that, but he was also caring and charming.

She could understand why so many girls were crying when everyone found out about their relationship. The bad thing is that he had heard about the crying girls too, and he was absolutely conceited about it.

Though he hadn't given her a hard time so far. Alright, it hadn't been such a long time they were together - next Saturday it would be two weeks. But it's Malfoy we're talking about, and Ginny honestly thought he would make her cry from the second day.

"It's not that simple," Ginny finally said, "It's very difficult to confess your feelings to the one you love."

Draco opened his mouth to say something, but Ginny promptly interrupted. "Yes, it is! It wasn't easy for us, either. I just let it show because I couldn't think properly when you held me."

He smirked, full of himself, but she gave him a warning look. "Oh, come on, I think your thoughts were all in the right direction that night."

"Draco," she exclaimed, trying to keep her voice down, "I almost lost my virginity in a broom closet! That's not how it is supposed to be!"

"Yes, it is. Soon you'll find out that it doesn't really matter where, but how good it feels."

"Draco, we've talked about it, and you know what I think. I want to trust you completely before doing something like that."

"Yes, I know." He smiled, resting his face on his hand and looking intensely at her. "But I don't suppose you couldn't trust me completely in the next five minutes, could you?"

*~~*~~*~~*~~*

Turns out Ginny couldn't trust him completely in the next five minutes, and she got so mad at his suggestion she refused to meet him that night too.

That explained why he was feeling so grumpy in the morning, and not even the fact that his first class was Potions - his favourite class - was enough to cheer him up.

But Draco decided to take his time and watch Scarhead and Mudblood, and how they were acting towards each other, remembering how Ginny was worried about them.

But there was nothing to be worried about. The way he saw it, it was a very funny situation. There was Weasley - or brother-in-law, as Draco would usually call him every time he was around just to make him mad - trying to make them talk to each other, and there they were, both of them as red as Weasley's hair and trying to avoid eye contact.

A kiss would solve this situation. Considering, of course, that Potter could deliver a worthy kiss.

"What are you looking at, Malfoy?" Harry hissed between his teeth when he walked next to him to catch more beetle eye.

"Oh, nothing." Draco didn't even move while answering it. "It's just that watching you live your miserable life always makes me feel better about my own."

Harry didn't make any comment, so Draco got up and walked closer to him, so only he could hear his next words. "Ginny told me all about you and the Mudblood, and how you love each other but can't confess it." He smirked. "I would love to mock, but I promised Ginny I wouldn't."

Harry seemed surprised, but tried not to show it by replying, "So now you let a girl tell you what to do?"

Draco ignored it, and continued, "She has this ridiculous idea you two would be very happy together. For me, I wish you two get married and live forever with each other." His maliciously smile was even wider now. "I can't think of a better punishment for both of you."

Harry was faster than Draco, and before the boy could prevent it, he already had punched him hard in the mouth (yes, everyone tries to ruin Draco's face... envy, maybe?) and was trying to deliver another punch.

Draco saw everything happen in slow motion. Everyone got up and tried to get closer to watch, with the Slytherins trying to get to Harry and punch him back. Soon Professor Snape was beside him asking if he was alright, but he had knocked his head on the table and just lay on the floor, strangely dizzy. But he saw above his teacher's head the Mudblood placing her hand on Potter's shoulder, and the boy looked at her with what Draco called, for lack of better word, a puppy face.

Then for a moment Draco felt very stupid and very angry with himself. What if he was the one that would bring those two obnoxious people together? And then he remembered how Ginny would be happy if that was the case, so he fell into unconsciousness with a smile on his face.
