- This is my first fic, so don't kill me if you don't like it! I have posted this fic on an AOL Harry Potter message board, and since people liked it so much, I decided to post it here! It has about 12 chaptes, but that might change throughout the time I am re-reading it. It also has a sequel that I am still currently writing that now has 20 chapters, so stick around for a while!
Harry and Hermione were sitting on a bench at the airport. It had been a long flight from London to Pittsburgh and Hermione wasn't feeling very well.
Tim and Ivy (Hermione's parents) were in line to rent a car. They soon came back to Harry and Hermione holding a key.
"Let's get rolling," Ivy told them, "Our luggage has already been brought out to the car we rented."
They all headed out to the rental car parking lot and found a red land rover parked half on the curb. Harry opened the back door and Hermione got in, and he followed her.
"By the time we find the hotel, we should probably get to bed," Tim said as he started the car.
"We're only going to be here for three days, but I have a lot of ideas on what we can do. You two have already told me you want to go to that amusement park Kennywood, so we are going to eat breakfast down by the rivers and then spend the rest of the day there. This is going to be great!" Ivy said, just like Hermione, all in one breath.
Harry stared out his window with his eyes out of focus thinking about the summer so far. He had found out that his babysitter, Mrs. Figg, had been a witch all these years, and she through the best birthday ever for him. He had gone to Hermione's house and gotten rather "close" to her over the month there. He had found out that his and Hermione's moms had been close friends when they were little. And most importantly that Ivy was his godmother and that they wanted to adopt him. Obviously he had taken their offer and would be spending the rest of his life without the Dursleys.
They had only been in the car for about 10 minutes when it suddenly stopped.
"It didn't take as long to get here as I thought," Tim said as he got out of the car.
Harry, Hermione, and Ivy also got out. It seemed as if they were on a hill on one side of downtown. On the side of the rode they were on, a view of the city below with the backdrop of the setting sun was viewable. Harry leaned over the fence to see it. The three rivers were all there, the Monongahala and the Allegheny merging together to form the Ohio. In the middle of them was a large fountain where Harry could just make out people around it.
"It is beautiful isn't it?" Hermione said to all of them.
"Well, we can enjoy it later, right now we have to get inside and get situated," Ivy said, popping the trunk. They all took their luggage and headed for the door of the hotel across the street. It wasn't a very fancy hotel with peeling white paint. Harry could see the blinking neon sign that said Aubrey's and knew it must be the name of the hotel.
But as they got inside, they could tell that you definitely shouldn't judge this hotel by the outside. A low wall separated the lobby that they were in with the breakfast area. But the artwork was what made this hotel different from any other. On the ceiling of the lobby was a painting of a wolf's head and a waterfall behind it. The water from the waterfall seemed to come down onto all the walls and looked like it was actually flowing. Harry knew that Hermione would love it even before she let her mouth hang open. All four of them were still looking at everything as they approached the front desk.
"Hello, do you have a reservation?" said the lady behind the desk.
"Yes, last name Granger," Ivy replied, handing a piece of paper to her.
He looked at the paper. "So you're the lucky people that got that place. Master Aubrey worked so hard on that place and only just got finished a few days ago. It really is wonderful," he handed two keys to Ivy, "The entire top floor is yours."
They went down a hallway and found the elevators. Tim pressed the button and they all got in.
"I've heard of that girl, Aubrey Yelantes," Hermione said as the elevator went up, "She is a famous painter of animals. She must own this place and done all the decorating and paintings here."
"That name doesn't seem familiar," Harry said, thinking hard.
"She's only famous in America," she replied knowingly, "But get this, she's only our age! Imagine being 15 and famous," Harry stared at her and she added, "Well, maybe you don't need to imagine it, but muggles know her too."
The elevator stopped and they all got out. A single door was in front of them. Ivy put her suitcase down and opened the door.
The first room they saw was a living room nothing like what Harry had ever seen. On one wall the colors red, white, and blue met in a form that was the American flag. It was a backdrop for a bald eagle with its wings stretched out far on either side. Bald eagles dominated this room with lamps, curtains, the rug, couches, and even statues on the mantle of the fireplace.
"Wow," Harry said. It was the only word he could find to describe it.
"Let's go put our luggage in out rooms, shall we?" Tim told all of them.
They headed down one of the hallways that lead out of the living room. The first door they opened had a bedroom with a tiger theme. Harry had figured out by now that each room had a mural of an animal on the wall and there were accessories that had to do with that animal.
The mural in this one featured a mother tiger and her three cubs. The king-sized bed was draped with a canopy of fabric with a tiger stripe print on it.
"This can be our bedroom, I love tigers!" Ivy said as she and Tim put their luggage on the bed. They decoded to come with Harry and Hermione to find their rooms and see what animal it was based on.
The next room was made for Hermione. All four walls seemed to be underwater. A pod of dolphins seemed to be swimming past. The rug on the floor seemed to be a coral reef.
"This one's mine!" Hermione said dropping her suitcase on the bed.
Harry was wondering what animal his room was going to be based on. The other rooms seemed to have their owners' favorite animal. He had no idea what his favorite animal was.
They came to the last door in that hallway and opened it. Harry couldn't believe his eyes. On one wall there was a silvery stag running on the edge of a lake. It seemed as if someone had been right there on the Hogwarts grounds on that day near the end of their 3rd year...
"This is pretty great," Tim said, "Well we're going to bed, and you two should soon."
"G'night," Hermione said and kissed both her parents on the cheek.
"Goodnight," Harry told them absentmindedly.
Ivy and Tim went out of the room and closed the door.
"Hermione, is it just me or is there something strange about this place?" Harry asked, running his fingers over the stag on the wall.
"I don't know, but it does seem strange tat our rooms have our favorite animal as the theme," Hermione said, thinking about all of it. "Plus yours isn't just deer, it is stags, jus like your dad."
Harry didn't say anything. He was still staring at the mural. Now he turned his attention to the background. The lake behind it looked exactly like the one at Hogwarts. Behind the lake was a forest that Harry knew had to be the Forbidden Forest. It had to be Hogwarts. After a few minutes, something caught his eye.
"Holy cricket, it's me!" he said in disbelief.
Hermione came up next to him and looked at the spot he was pointing at. Sure enough there was a small painting of Harry with what looked like his wand out right in front of him.
"But that's impossible," Hermione said, now staring at Harry, "Someone would've had to been there that night."
"We would have seen them."
"I don't know Harry, I just don't know."
