Author's Note:
Based on a true story! My brother and I had an argument about whether or not magic exists last night. Much of the dialogue was taken from that conversation.

Lily Evans bounded inside her quaint home in the suburbs of London, England, after having gone outside to fetch the post. She had been in the middle of writing a very good story - maybe even good enough to be a bestseller - when her mother had asked her to get the post.

Her story was about a boy named Harry, who was an amazing boy who went on all sorts of amazing adventures with his amazing friends. Lily was in the middle of the amazing, heart-stopping, death-defying, and whatever other adjectives end in 'ing' than one could think of to describe such and exciting - see? Ing! - ending.

After putting the mail on the kitchen table, Lily bounded up the stairs and down the hall toward the room that she shared with her sister, Petunia. When she opened the door to her bedroom, Lily felt her face contort into a look of surprise. Petunia was reading her story.

"Petunia!" Lily raved, "That's not published! You can't read it yet!"

Petunia sniffed derisively as she put the papers down on Lily's bed. "There's no such thing as magic, you know."

"Yes there is!" Lily said hotly, grabbing up her papers and hugging them to her chest protectively.

"Where?" asked Petunia. "I've never seen little fairies with their star-tipped wands casting spells. Where's the proof?" Petunia sneered.

"Open your eyes, Petunia. There's magic everywhere. You're just too close-minded to see it," Lily replied haughtily.

"And you can?" Petunia countered, her voice layered with contempt.

Lily nodded slowly. "Yes. Yes I can."

"Where?" pressed Petunia, sounding triumphant.

Lily hesitated. "You wouldn't understand. You're too immature."

Petunia laughed. "I wouldn't understand because it doesn't exist. It's you who's immature, believing in magic."

Lily blushed. "Magic is everywhere," she started quickly. "It's in the love between boyfriends and girlfriends. It's in the love between two people who have been married for forty years. It's in the friendship between best friends. There's magic when one person can finish their best friend's sentence. There's magic in the bravery of a person who's afraid of heights going on a roller coaster. There's magic all around us, Petunia. You're just too blind to see it." Lily finished, triumphantly.

Petunia snorted. "In your dreams, Lily. There's no such thing as magic. That's a load of codswallop if I ever heard it!"

"Lily!" called their mother's voice from down the stairs, interrupting an argument that was bound to turn violent. "There's a letter here for you!"

"Oh," Lily said, sounding puzzled. "Coming Mum!" she shouted back down the stairs. She dropped her story onto her bed, not caring if Petunia read it or not, since she had already started.

Lily bound down the stairs and practically skidded into the kitchen. She took her letter from her mother's outstretched hand. She paused when she took it. It was heavy, and the envelope looked like it was made of old parchment.

Lily looked at the letter curiously. It didn't have a stamp. When she turned it over to open it, she saw that it was sealed with and odd sort of wax seal. It was some sort of crest. It had a large H surrounded by a bird, a lion, a badger, and a snake.

Lily tore open the letter. She pulled out two sheets of parchment, the same kind that the envelope was made of. She slowly unfolded them, and read the one that was on top.

After reading her letters, and discussing these things with her mother, Lily ran up the stairs, parchment in hand. She ran into her room, and continued to where Petunia was sitting at their desk. Lily shoved the parchment into Petunia's hands.

"See! Magic does exist. I told you so!"

Author notes: The argument with my brother did turn violent... Thanks to my brother, for being too close-minded to see magic, and for getting me so angry with him to put this into fanfic form! And thanks to Chris Columbus, Warner Brothers, and everyone involved in the making of the 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' movie. If I wasn't watching that, my brother and I would have never had the conversation!

Please review. Thanks in advance.
