The Return of Sirius Black Part Three

It was August 2nd. Harry looked at the clock on Ron's bedside table. 3:00 AM, it read. He tried to go back to sleep, but he could not. The thought of seeing Sirius again had sparked strange dreams in his head. He felt his eyes go heavy anyways. . .

Harry was in front of the famed Mirror of Erised. He was looking at his parents as he had when he saw the Mirror in his first year at Hogwarts. But this time Sirius joined his parents. They all waved at him. Harry felt head-splitting pain. It was his scar. He was here. Harry fell to the floor. His family looked on it alarm. And then they were gone. The Mirror became cloudy. A Figure appeared out in the fog. He stepped out of the Mirror.

"I've been waiting for you Harry," He said.

"No . . . no . . ." Harry moaned. He put his wand up, but the Figure disarmed him with a flick of his own wand.

"Join me, Harry. I'll bring him back to you,"

"No . . . no . . . I won't join you . . . ." He tried to get up, but he was too weak. The Figure came closer. It was trying to bite him . . . .

"HARRY! HARRY! WAKE UP!"

. . . It's fangs were getting closer to his neck . . .

"WAKE UP! HARRY WAKE UP!!!!!!!"

. . . They started to sink into his flesh . . .

Harry sat bolt upright. Hermione and the Weasleys were crying and shaking him as a figure in a cloak performed a spell that Harry could not hear. He felt himself being pulled back to the Mirror. . .

"Join me and you can have them all back Harry. Every last one of them," the Figure said.

"I won't. I can't join you. You'll kill everyone else."

"You'll have your family."

"I can't . . ."

"HARRY LOOK AT THE MIRROR! LOOK AT THE MIRROR!"

"Don't you look at it!" the Figure hissed.

Harry turned to the Mirror weakly. He saw Sirius in it by himself. "WAKE UP HARRY! HE'S HERE! IF YOU WAKE UP HE WILL LEAVE! WAKE UP!"

Harry sat up once more. The Mirror and the figure were gone. He was in Ron's room again. He looked at the clock. 7:00 AM, it read. Mrs. Weasley came and hugged him. She was followed by Hermione and Ginny a second later. Mr. Weasley was shaking hands with the cloaked figure. Harry tried to stand up, but he only fell to the floor.

The cloaked figure rushed to him and pulled Harry back up on the bed. He tried to hide his face, but Harry grabbed the hood and pulled it back. It was Sirius.

"SIRIUS!" Harry shouted.

"Yes Harry, it's me." Sirius seemed tired and more care-worn to Harry. Around his eyes were black circles and his hair was long and unkempt. But Sirius embraced Harry with the same enthusiasm as he always had.

"I missed you so much," Harry whispered over his tears.

"I missed you too." Sirius was crying as well.

"Why did you leave? Why didn't you stay?"

"I was looking for R.A.B. I thought you could use some help now that Albus is gone."

"But you didn't have to leave. You could've stayed and helped me here."

"I had things to do Harry. Important things."

Hermione spoke up. "More important than Harry?"

"Hermione," Sirius warned.

"Well, are they?" She had that look like she was going to kill Sirius right there.

Sirius let Harry go. "I never got a chance to do them Hermione. I had to come back here."

"Did you come back because of the dream?" Harry asked. He was feeling defiant towards Sirius.

"No," Sirius answered warily. He knew that the bite from Voldemort was affecting Harry's thinking. "I came back because I knew that I should stay with you." He grew quite.

"I'm glad you did," Harry said. He hugged Sirius again.

"Oh, by the way, happy birthday." Sirius pulled out a package from his robe pocket.

Harry opened it. It was a photograph taken at an unknown lawn in the spring. Remus was lying on the ground and chewing thoughtfully on the grass. Wormtail appeared to be eating the grass. Sirius was making brooms out of the grass and bewitching them to fly. James and Lily were leaning against a tree and were writing a list. The list appeared to be of names.

"I love it," he whispered. "Why are they making a list of names?"

Sirius moved over. "They're trying to decide what to name you."

"This is the best present I've ever received."

"I thought you'd like it."

Mrs. Weasley - who had gone downstairs earlier to get breakfast ready - came into the room. "Breakfast is on the table. Come on. We're leaving for Diagon Alley in an hour and a half, so hurry up. Oh, Sirius, there was a letter for you. I left it on your plate."

"I've been dead for two years. Who would send me mail?" Sirius laughed. To Harry his godfather's laugh had always sounded like a dog bark.

They all went downstairs and sat at the table. As the others served themselves, Sirius read his letter. After he was finished, he handed it to Harry.

Dear Sirius,

It's good to have you back my friend! Sorry I wasn't there to welcome you home. I'm sure Harry did enough welcoming to go around the whole world. Anyways, about what you asked for . . .

He's dead. We all knew it. There's no denying it. But I think there may be a way to talk with him. If you still have those two-way mirrors that you and James always had, bring them and meet me at the Leaky Cauldron tomorrow and 7:00 PM. Bring Harry.

I'll see you tomorrow you old dog!

Much love to you,

Remus Lupin

"We have to repair one," Harry said.

"I figured that," Sirius laughed. "You're going to the Alley today; get it fixed."

"Aren't you coming?"

"No. I'll be recognized. You'll do fine." Sirius noted Harry's distressed look. "I'll be here when you get back. I promise."

Harry nodded.

"Time to go kids! Get your lists! Let's go!" Mrs. Weasley yelled.

"Don't you worry Molly!" Sirius said. "Arthur and I will do the dishes." Mr. Weasley groaned. "It'll be fun, Arthur. I'll show you the way the Muggles do it." Mr. Weasley beamed and shooed his family to the fireplace.

"We have to use the Floo; Ginny can't Apparate yet," Ron said glumly. He loved Apparating.

They Flooed out. The last thing Harry saw in the Burrow was Sirius smiling at him.
