Chapter Two

Hermione started to notice that Ron was looking more pale and sleepy than usual. Surely something had to be wrong, why else would he look like he hadn't seen daylight for months? Maybe he's just been staying up late so he could study for Potions or some other class.

Harry was too busy with keeping in touch with the Order, schoolwork, studying for Snape's incessant quizzes, and Quidditch practice every night, to see that Ron was becoming more and more detached from his friends and school. Even eating!

One early morning in December, Ron walked down to the Common Room only to be bombarded by half the Gryffindor house (mainly all his family). They all said that they were worried about him and that they want him to tell them what's going on and everything in that sense of matter.

"You had better tell us, Ron, or I'll write to Mum and Dad and tell them that you're really sick and you must go home. Tell us NOW!" exclaimed an infuriated Ginny.

"Come on Fred, let's beat it out of him! That's the only thing I can think of to get whatever it is out of him," said George, motioning for his twin brother to come and help him.

"I'll not tell you anything. Gerroff!! GERROFF! Leave me alone, nothing is bothering me. Would all of you just please stop bugging me about this.

If I had something to say, I'd say it. But for the moment being, there is nothing I want to say to any of you. Now, let me go to breakfast before I write to Mum and tell her that you are all narking prats who can't keep their freckled faces out of other peoples business!"

The group that had been clustered around him slowly dispersed until only Hermione and Ginny were left. Harry had left to save them all seats in the Great Hall. Fred and George simply disappeared and wouldn't show up until their first class had started. Everyone had lost interest in what was happening in Ron's life or simply didn't give a crap about him or his problems.

The three stood in a misshapen triangle and stared at the floor, not wanting to look at each other's faces. Finally, after what seemed like and hour, Ron felt Hermione and Ginny shift their body weights. He looked up to see them using sign language and Ginny smiling.

What can they be so happy about in this God for saken place they call Earth? And why are they using sign language? I can't even tell what they're saying!

At this moment, Ginny and Hermione both burst out laughing. Soon they started to run out of air, and Ron took advantage of this.

"What are you two laughing about? Something about me I suppose. Nothing new there, everyone always laughs at me," Ron said miserably.

"We weren't laughing at you, we were laughing because we have figured out what is wrong with you! You want a date but can't get one, is that right so far?"

Ron nodded his head slightly and Ginny giggled. Hermione continued with her query.

"And, you have already asked some people and they have turned you down. You do have a crush on someone but are too chicken to ask her out. And that's why you've been acting crazy and deranged lately. Am I right, oh tell me I'm right?!"

Again, Ron nodded his head. Hermione and Ginny went back to using sign language so Ron wouldn't be able to hear their conversation until they got down to the Great Hall for breakfast where they joined Harry and ate their food in silence.

Ron used this silence to think about how easy it was for Hermione and Ginny to figure out what was bothering him. I'm so stupid. I'm a stupid narking idiot! How did they figure it out, though? I didn't think anybody would ever figure it out. Hermione and Ginny must have been thinking about this a lot! I'm going to get back at them if they say anything to anybody, especially Malfoy! Oh, if they say anything, I'll pull a Moody and turn them into bouncing ferrets! Hahahahahaha!!
