Chapter One

No one likes. How am I ever supposed to get a date for the Valentine's Day ball? I've already asked two girls and they both rejected me! I don't want to tell any of my friends because they would laugh at me. What am I going to do???

"I'll get the Butterbeers!" exclaimed Hermione. "My mum and dad sent me some spare money so I could buy presents during the holidays."

"Thanks Hermione! Next time, I'll pay. I don't want you to be paying for us all the time, ya' know," said Harry.

"Oh yeah, we don't want any one paying for everyone's drinks because they could cost you some money. Like you wouldn't want to lose any of that! God save us if that should ever happen!" Ron said bitterly.

"Why are you being so harsh and cruel lately? You used to be just surly because of Snape and Krum. What happened?" Harry asked, using an emphasis on the words Snape and Krum.

"Sorry guys. I've just got a lot on my mind right now. I didn't mean to snap at you. I think I should go now; I don't want to spoil your afternoon. If you need me, I'll be in Gryffindor Tower. Oh, would one of you get me some Chocolate Frogs from Honeydukes? I'm out."

"I will, and it's no problem. You don't have to leave, Ron. We just want you to be happy and not pouting around for the rest of the year!"

"Well, if you want me to be happy you should just leave me alone! And don't bother getting me any Frogs. I'll get some from Fred and George when they come back later," said Ron angrily. "Oh, and don't forget to have a fun and happy day!" he exclaimed in a mock tone of his own mum's.

"Ron! There is seriously something wrong with you. Do you want to talk about it? You know that Harry and I are here for you whenever you need us. You just need to tell us what's making you act this way! I've never seen you like this before. Not even when you were really jealous of Harry because he was getting all the attention and you were left in the dark!"

"Hermione's right, Ron. We want you to talk to us. What's wrong?"

"I don't want to talk about it right now! Why don't you two just bugger off? Just leave me alone! You're acting like Mum and Dad! Stop babying me; I don't need you to help me solve my problems. I can handle them on my own!"

Ron turned and stalked out of the Three Broomsticks. While he was walking back up to the castle, he started to think about all of the things he had said to his friends.

How could I have been so cruel to them? All they wanted to do was help me. Although I don't need their help, I should have at least told them that another way. But I still can't tell them what's making me so ornery. I don't want them to know that I have already asked out the Patil twins and they turned me down! Worse thing is, I want to talk to them! They just wouldn't understand, though. Only because they are an 'item' now. I don't want them to think I can't deal with my own troubles, and it's not like I couldn't just go to the ball on my own. But then, Malfoy would surely titter and publicly humiliate me! What to do, what to do??
