He looked up and locked eyes, knowing what this meant. He glanced down at the wet spot again, and saw that his stomach seemed to be a bit bigger than before the accident. The nurse saw him gaping at his midsection and explained that magical pregnancies only last for four and a half months, therefore things were bound to happen quicker.

She estimated that by the next day he should be having regular occurrences of morning sickness, maybe even a bit of a backache from going up and down the stairs (which he would be doing a lot of tomorrow, seeing as it would be the first day of the term). Pomfrey explained he could probably be on maternity leave in two months. He swore he didn't care about maternity leave; he just wanted his normal life back!

But Pomfrey said, "No acceptions, Professor. You're going to have to carry these babies full term."

Snape snapped back to real life.

"There are more than one in... in here?" he gestured to his stomach.

She nodded, smiling to his distaste; "Twins!"

Severus fainted. Laughing, she prodded him awake.

"It's nothing to be afraid of! Now, I know it's certainly not, erm, normal for you to be going through something like this, Professor, but you've got to deal with it!"

After a few more minutes of persuasion, he finally accepted he was going to be a father... and a mother to boot. He suddenly realized something: it took two to make a baby, if this was true, who was the other parent? When asked this, Pomfrey smiled.

"Actually, no one yet. You see, the person who the potion is fed to decides who's the other parent. So... who would you like?"

Snape had to think for only a second before he came up with who he had loved more dearly than life itself.

"If the person is dead--"

Pomfrey's smile faltered just a bit before she answered.

"Yes, then the situation is a bit different... but who, is the more important question right now...?"

After hesitating for only a fraction of a second, he answered, "Lily Evans-Potter."

Madam Pomfrey had always known about Snape's liking of Lily Evans-Potter; most of the school did. She accepted the fact that he would've loved to have a baby with her, and this was his chance. All she had to do was get a blood sample from Harry, and have him drink it. It was gross, yes, but the only way it would work. The next day the students would arrive; she'd get it then.

Snape left the hospital wing in high spirits, though he couldn't tell you why. After all, as Madam Pomfrey had predicted, he was now having sharper back pains, and his stomach had swollen to the size it would have taken it he had eaten five bowls of pudding. Pomfrey hadn't explained how she was to get Lily's eggs, but he felt content enough that he was sure he didn't want to know. The next evening he was to report back to the hospital wing, where Madam Pomfrey would insert Lily's eggs. Severus had reached his dungeon, and stood to the mirror, gazing fondly at his slightly larger stomach. He and the kids would have a beautiful life together... kicking himself, he found that the thought had just had did not please him in the least.

Stupid mood swings, he thought grudgingly.
