Hermione finds out something that sets her stable world tumbling off into a land of greys, where nothing is ever set in stone. McGonagall isn't just a Transfiguration professor and Gryffindro's Head of House, Snape can be civil, and Draco... Well, hormones are something Hermione's not had to deal with much before, and now she wishes they didn't exist.

Hermione's curiosity on that October Saturday landed her in more potential trouble than she thought. Now, the weekend after Halloween, on a crisp November Saturday, she's having breakfast with a group of people she'd always viewed - along with most of the wizarding world - as the worst of the worst. And is in danger only of being smothered by the fussing of one grandmotherly woman.

Hermione has detention with Draco Malfoy, and she finds he can have a civil conversation - well, civilized for him talking to her, anyway. Unfortunately, not everything goes so well afterwards, and Hermione has to choose between protecting her friends from what she knows, and keeping them as her friends.

Hermione's looking forward to Easter holidays, and the chance to get away from Draco's odd antics, Ron's baleful glares, and Harry's stony silence. But she's getting more than she bargined for, and at the heart of it all, as usual, are Draco and Ron's mutual relatives, Meri and Ri. Also featuring cameos by Sirius and Remus and Harry in this chapter!

Hermione finds out that Narcissa was right about Draco being perceptive, and she finds Ginny is a truer friend than she imagined. She makes her way through exams, and is still at the top of her class, despite the adventures of the year. Now, all she has to do is survive the summer holidays, her first without Harry and Ron since she came to Hogwarts.

It’s nearing the end of July, and Hermione has been included – miracle of miracles – in the plans to throw Harry a surprise birthday party. She’s expected at 12 Grimmauld Place on the thirtieth to help set things up, and is looking forward to the party, even though Harry still isn’t talking to her. Only she receives an invitation to a Death Eater gathering on Harry’s birthday that she can only refuse at the risk of loosing her life, and the lives of her parents. What awaits her at this auspiciously scheduled meeting, and what new danger will she find placed in her path?

The train ride back to Hogwarts, in which Hermione finds Ginny has been worried about her, and a new professor is introduced. Interaction between Harry and Hermione again, and a shaky truce is established between Harry and Draco.
