I've always wanted to try and write a Harry Potter fanfiction, and this idea just popped in my head a few days ago. Short but sweet. I hope you like it!

When Pigs Fly

It Christmas during sixth year, and as I was walking by the Gryffindor common room, I heard Ron and Hermione having a go at one another once again. Apparently, Viktor Krum had invited Hermione to Bulgaria for Christmas, and Hermione was most likely going to accept. This, predictably to those who know him, made Ron simply furious.

"And why shouldn't I go, Ron? What does it matter to you if I stay with him for Christmas?" Hermione snapped.

"You're - erm - you're fraternizing with the -"

"With the what, Ron? The Bulgarians? What do you have against them? You sure don't have anything against the French, look at Fleur Delacour!"

I sighed. Sometimes the pair of them drive me mad; I can never understand why they are always having a go at each other. You would think they fancy each other, like that would ever happen. They are just friends, nothing more, I'm sure. Judging by the way they bicker, they would never get along as well as Ginny and I do, even if they did fancy each other.

"What's wrong with Christmas at the Burrow? You don't want to have Christmas with me?" Ron paused, then, realizing what he had just implied, he added, "- and Harry and Ginny too!" His ears were crimson.

"Christmas with Viktor will be infinitely better than Christmas with you, especially when you act like such a git!" Hermione yelled.

"Me, act like a git? You're the one that is being ridiculous, Hermione! Fine, go off and snog Vicky over Christmas, you obviously want to!"

"You know what, Ron? Like I said last year, you have the emotional range of a teaspoon! If you hadn't, you would clearly be able to see that I fancy you, not Viktor, though I don't know why; you drive me insane! The only day I would choose Christmas with you over Christmas with Viktor - when - when pigs fly!"

Hermione was fuming, and Ron was totally stunned. I was as well, and I had been so sure they were just friends. Then, as Pigwidgeon happily soared around outside the common room, I had an idea. As Ron and Hermione sat in huffy silence, I scribbled a note to Ron and tied it to Pig's leg. It read:

I'm a "Pig". I fly.

Pig, ecstatic at the idea of delivering a letter, eagerly flew to Ron. He read it, brows furrowed, and a grin crept on his face.

"Oy, Hermione! Read this note!" She did so, and attempted in vain to restrain a laugh.

"Hermione, I'm - er - sorry about being a git about Vicky - er -Viktor... and I... fancy you too" said Ron, blushing scarlet. "You have your flying "Pig", so will you maybe stay at the Burrow for Christmas?" Ron sounded very hopeful, and I silently willed Hermione to accept.

"I'll write to Viktor to tell him that I'm busy over break."

I quickly ran to the library. Judging by the muffled noises, they seemed to be snogging, and probably would not like to be overheard. Though I was totally revolted at the idea of my friends in a romantic situation, I considered that perhaps as a couple they would not bicker as much. But knowing the pair of them, I will definitely not get my hopes up.
