Author's Note:
Well, what a surprise, here I am again, actually, I've been writing this fic for ages, just I haven't got round to typing it up yet and I ran out of space in my book so I had to type it up. Yes, I know everyone has Lily as Lily Evans but I don't, a) coz I don't wanna, b) it hasn't been finalised in a book yet so we don't properly know and c) it doesn't fit in the song. In case you are going to wonder after you've read it, Pettigrew isn't in it coz he's gone to see grandma who's ill or summat, basically I don't wanna write about him coz he's a scumbag. I'm gonna try an put this in parts coz else it will be really long, but it might not amount to much than three or four v.short parts, oh well.

Potter/Jones Love Duet

Part I

Lily Jones bent over her desk and under the pretence of cutting up her Farnar nuts, she carefully gouged LJ 4 SB 4EVA into the wood with her chopping knife. She threw the bright pink nuts into her cauldron along with various other ingredients and started to stir it for five minutes.

"Black!" barked the Potions master, Professor Bindelbine "What did I say about not adding the ground catfish bones til last?" Sirius Black smirked as the teacher stood glaring at Sirius' furiously bubbling orange potions that had already bubbled over and was seeping over his and James Potter's desks. "Detention! This is the third lesson in a row that you've deliberately disobeyed me. See me after the lesson." As soon as Bindelbine had turned away, Sirius caught Lily's eye and gave her his famous flirtatious eye. She giggled happily and turned back to mixing her potion.

Sirius bounced out of the classroom, his dark eyes sparkling, even though he had just been given a detention of cleaning up Moaning Myrtle's latest flood for Filch. He caught Lily up and swung her round, she laughed happily as her auburn hair flew out behind her and her black robes flapped against her body, Sirius gently set her down and kissed her forehead.

"Come on, I told James I'd meet him in the Great Hall for dinner." Sirius slipped his hand into Lily's and the pair set off down the corridor together.

"Hogsmeade trip next weekend," said James as Lily and Sirius sat down opposite him.

"Great!" said Sirius excitedly, "I've run out of those Dungbombs and I desperately need a stock up from Honeydukes."

"I haven't had any Butterbeer in ages," said James dejectedly, "It's Remus' birthday next week as well." he added in an undertone as their friend came in and sat down next to them.

"Hi Remus!" Lily said cheerily, " You haven't seen Aveni have you?"

"No," he replied, "Did you hear? There's a Hogsmeade trip next weekend!"

Lily smiled to herself as her three sixth year friends prattled on to each other about Hogsmeade all through lunch. About halfway through, Lily's 2nd best friend, Aveni Considine waltzed in, her bag slung over her shoulder in her usual carefree manner.

"Hi Lily, hi James," she said, sitting on the nearest seat, next to Remus, "Binns wouldn't let us go because one of the Ravenclaws let off a Dungbomb." All three boys' eyes lit up at the thought of it.

"I bet he didn't half get annoyed."

"You can say that again."

"I bet he didn't . . . . ." James was stopped by a playful slap from Aveni.

"James! You nit! Well, he gave us four rolls of parchment to do for Monday on some stupid Goblin gathering or something, I wasn't listening." she groaned. Sirius laughed and told Aveni and Remus of his mornings misfortunes. Eventually they finished eating and made their way up to Gryffindor Tower.

"Sniggertick," Lily said on reaching the portrait. It swung forward and they entered, making their way to the chairs in the far corner. James and Remus simultaneously collapsed into their respective armchairs. Aveni perched on the arm of James' chair and Sirius sank into his, pulling Lily on to his lap. She sat comfortably. leaning her head against his shoulder, Sirius put his arm around her and absently stroked her auburn hair.

Lily was happy. Since she'd first come to Hogwarts she'd always fancied Sirius, his thick black dreadlocks, his pale features, his stylish black clothes, his comfortable aura of coolness, laid-backness, his height, his humour, his cheeky disobedience, his massive laughing grin, his dancing black eyes, his individuality, his energy and freedom. Lily knew her time with him was short because no girl ever lasted long with Sirius, he was to energetic and restless to stay with one person for long, but Lily didn't care, she loved being around him. She loved that special way he had of making her feel like she was the one, that special girl he wanted to stay with his whole life long. She didn't care that this dream wouldn't come true, she just loved living for the moment, of her and Sirius, she just loved being held in his arms, she loved him telling her he loved her. As they talked, a song from a Muggle (A/N: Sorry Irving) musical popped into her head, from a show that her parents had taken her to see the last holiday.

Don't ask me just how it happened,

I wish I knew.

I can't believe that it's happened,

And still it's true.

I got lost in his arms and I had to stay,

It was dark in his arms and I lost my way,

From the dark came a voice and it seemed to say:

'There you go, there you go!'

How I felt as I fell I just can't re-call,

But his arms held me fast and it broke the fall,

And I said to my heart as it foolishly kept jumping all around,

'I got lost, but look what I found!'

How I felt as I fell I just can't re-call,

But his arms held me fast and it broke the fall,

And I said to my heart as it foolishly kept jumping all around,

'I got lost, but look what I found!'

Remus suddenly looked at his watch and jumped up, "Hey you two, we'd better get going if we don't want Bell yelling his head off at us, it's Quidditch practise in, like, a minute!" James jumped up and quickly made his way to the portrait, Sirius stood up and left after a long, lingering kiss with Lily. When the painting had flapped shut, she sank into the chair, grinning happily. Aveni laughed,

"You are so lucky! I can't believe how sweet on you he is! Oh God, did you see James today?! No, I guess you were too occupied with Black. I love James' new hairstyle, it makes him look even more gorgeous than ever. I'm telling you, he is sooo fine! I just wish he'd say yes," she finished dejectedly.

"Oh, cheer up Av, there's always Remus, he's cute."

"Yeah, but James is just paradise!" Lily laughed at her smitten friend, who was talking in non-stop raptures about how perfect James Potter was.

"You are so lucky Lil, you've got the coolest guy in the year hanging off you lips and the most gorgeous guy on the planet for a best friend." Lily smiled again, it was true she supposed, apart from the bit about Potter and the most gorgeous guy ever. True, she could see why Aveni fancied him so much, he had a fair chunk of style and appeal, but for Lily, there was only Sirius. Lily and James had been best friends since they had arrived at Hogwarts, there was a special something between the two of them that just made it work.

"Does he ever talk about me?" Aveni asked, tossing her braided brown hair over the back of the chair and interrupting Lily's train of thought.

"Not in the way you mean Av, but yeah, in an everyday kind of way I guess."

"So what do you guys actually talk about then, when you go in those long walks, to Hagrid's and that."

"Just stuff, you know, Quidditch, school, people, he raves about that Ravenclaw Esme Shaw, I talk about Sirius, when I fall out with people, he sorts it out, just everything really." Aveni smiled reluctantly, satisfied for the time being. They talked for a while and then started on the heaps of homework. Later in the evening, the boys came back, exhausted from the long training session and eventually the five of them trooped off their separate ways to bed.

"Oh God, Aveni was so annoying today, I swear one day I'll hit her," moaned James as he changed out of his muddy Quidditch robes, Sirius laughed,

"Why not just go out with her Prongs? Stop her hassling you."

"You must be joking Padfoot, a) I don't like her very much, b) can you just imagine what she'd be like when we broke up and c) it would just be too weird, I mean, she's my best friend's best friend, which is just weird, ugh."

"I don't think so, I'm dating my best friend's best friend and it's fine by me."

"Yeah, but you're weird anyway Padfoot, and anyway, it's different, you guys were pretty good friends to start with and I've been out with Lily before." All three boys laughed at the memory.

"Jeez, that sure was funny," remarked Remus, "you two acted like such kids when you broke up."

"Yeah, Moony's right, you ignored each other for about a month," added Sirius.

"Oh God, remind me never to do that again," James sighed,

"You won't get a chance, unless I die or I break up with her."

"Somehow, Padfoot old friend, I fear the latter will happen somewhat sooner than you think." Remus patted Sirius' shoulder in mock sympathy.

"You mean, you think I'm gonna break up with Lily? How could I? She's wonderful."

"Padfoot, tell me, since when has a Marauder been out with the same girl three months in a row? It's just not gonna happen buddy, it's just not you." James said as he rolled into bed and threw off the duvet.

"But she's Lily," Sirius protested as he followed suit, though preferring to keep covered up against the cold December air, "she's Lily"

The words echoed in James' head but he thought nothing of it and rolled over to go to sleep.

Aveni shook Lily awake early on Saturday morning.

"Eh? Ugh, what you want Av?" she mumbled sleepily, "it's too early, go back to sleep." and Lily Jones rolled over so that she faced away from Aveni, screwed her eyes shut and tried to get back to sleep.

"Lily, had you forgotten something? How about, ooh, I don't know, HOGSMEADE?!" Aveni bellowed. Lily wriggled back over, stretched her face into all sorts of funny positions and, grumbling, got up and started to dress. Aveni, it appeared had already been up several hours and was already dressed, in her finest, deep black robes hemmed with sparkly silver thread, she was currently doing the medieval thing of giving her hair two hundred strokes, three times a day. Lily knew she never normally did this and that its sole purpose was to impress James, unfortunately, Lily also had an idea that it would work, the Marauders were that superficial.

"Does my hair look alright Lil, or should I tie it up?" Aveni questioned her as she playfully coiled her long silky brown hair up into a large, graceful pile behind her head, observing it in the mirror from all different angles, Lily laughed,

"I honestly don't think it matters how you put your hair Av, it always looks nice."

"Yeah right, you're just saying that. Maybe I should braid it all again like I did yesterday."

"What? In all those hundreds of little plaits? We do actually want to go to Hogsmeade today, that took hours," Lily said sarcastically as she brushed her own shoulder length copper coloured hair, she tied it up and it bounced about in its wiry way, freeing itself from the restrictions of a hair bobble. Lily sighed exasperatedly and brushed it back once more. "Just tie it up normally Av, like I said, it always looks amazing."

"But I want it to be specially amazing, I want James to look at me."

"He looks at you everyday."

"Yeah, but he also looks at Snape everyday, I want him to look at me in that special way of his."

"What special way?" Lily asked as she stepped over the mess that was Aveni's trunk and went to help her with her troublesome hair.

"You know, the way he looks at a girl with those gorgeous blue eyes, and they sparkle with laughter, and look so cute and mischievous and you just want to melt, no, you just do melt."

"Well, I don't."

"I don't see how you stop yourself, they just make me want to fall into his arms and never get back up again."

"Eww, I'd much rather Sirius' arms, he could hold me forever and a day and I wouldn't mind."

"He practically does hold you forever."

"He so does not!" Lily threw a nearby pillow at her friend's head.

"As often as he can then," Aveni smiled as she tugged the white tie out of her brown hair once more and began to brush it out into two sections so she could plait it.

"No, don't do it like that Av, you'll get massive bumps, here let me do it." Lily took hold of Aveni's hair and separated it into four instead of two and began to plait it for her, "I can't believe how long I've been going with Sirius, it must be nearly a record with him! It'll be six weeks on Monday!"

"We'll have to have a party!" Aveni teased.

"Followed by a breaking up party." Lily commented, "I mean, it seems perfect with Sirius, but I honestly can't see him dating the same girl more than two months in a row, it's bound to happen soon, I mean, it's just not like him to go so long with me, I'm thankful it's lasted this long."

"Yeah, but you guys sure look sweet with each other." both girls laughed happily. "Are you nearly finished Lil, the boys will be getting impatient and we can't let them leave without us." Aveni twisted her head to check in the mirror how far Lily had done, she messed up the last plait that Lily was working on in doing so and so Lily had to unravel it all and start again. Through a mouth full of hairpins (she was going to use to coil it up) Lily said

"Oh, they won't go, don't you worry Av, Sirius wouldn't dare leave without me."

"Oh he wouldn't would he?!"

"Nah uh," Lily fixed the fourth plait in with a small transparent elastic, then she started to pin the plaits up around Aveni's head.

"So a girl has finally managed to get Sirius on apron strings then has she, this is a first!"

"Well, I wouldn't say apron strings, but I'm working on it!" Lily laughed mischievously. Aveni had to force herself not to twist round and stare at Lily in amazement.

"Lily Jones! I always thought the day you start using boys would be the day I jumped off a cliff, well I guess I better get jumping."

"Nah, I just want to keep with him as long as possible, he doesn't seem to mind and it's nothing serious anyway."

"Just so long as you don't get into the habit of it."

"Trust me Av, I'm not some little slapper, like a few girls I could mention." Lily stared pointedly at the sleeping form of Lucy Kingshaw who was almost as bad as Sirius at getting through the whole school, but she was mean and used the boys, showing them off like a dog and it's owner at Crufts, at least Sirius showed caring and compassion. She was very pretty, unfortunately, and had almost as many admirers as all of the Marauders put together (which would about the entire male population of Hogwarts). Both girls glared at her,

"I know you're not Lil, I was just teasing, no one could ever be as bad as Lucy Kingshaw, God knows how she got into Gryffindor. Have you finished my hair yet?"

"Nearly," Lily carefully put another pin into the most intricate coil yet, "just one more to go," she said taking the last plait and started to curl it and pin it into Aveni's thick hair.

"We better hurry else the boys definitely will go, apron strings or no," Aveni said, distractedly fiddling with her watch.

"They won't, stop fussing, James wanted to show me these brand new sweets at Honeydukes, Firing Nut Balls or something strange like that."

"How do they know about them?" Aveni asked curiously,

"I. . uh . . .don't know, I guess they must have . . .er. . heard about them from Seth or something, you know, Sirius' older brother, he's always writing them letters." Lily looked as though she knew something that Aveni shouldn't, which was true actually, but Aveni seemed satisfied with Lily's feeble cover up and she winced as Lily dug a hairpin in slightly too hard.

"OW!" she accidentally shouted, making Lucy and Trish, the girl in the other bed, moan and mumble and move in their sleep.

"Shh, sorry Av, you'll wake them up, they'll have a right go at you, you know they aren't going to Hogsmeade today."

"Spoilsport." Aveni grumbled.

"You want me to take your hair out?"

"No, I didn't mean it," Aveni looked shocked.

"Ok, I wasn't going to, I'm nearly finished anyway, it would take hours to take out." Lily tucked the last strand of hair in, performed a little charm to make the complicated hairstyle stay in place and brushed her own wiry hair again. Aveni bent down and turned out all the contents of her trunk in a vain attempt to search for her money. Lily sighed, taking her purse from underneath her pillow and slipping it in a small shoulder bag. Aveni succeeded in finding her money inside a pair of pink socks, threw it at Lily to put in her bag and ran downstairs.

"Wait Aveni!" Lily called, before heading down the stairs herself. True to their word, the boys were still waiting, albeit very impatiently and when Aveni shot down the staircase and tripped on the last stair they simultaneously breathed a fake sigh of relief.

"We thought you girls had all died up there," Remus said, laughing as he took Aveni's hand and pulled her to her feet just as Lily came gracefully through the doorway. She greeted the boys happily and kissed Sirius while he put his arm around her.

"Well, Lily, Aveni made the effort, but what took you so long?" James teased, he had to duck though as Lily took a heavy swipe at his head.

"You better watch it Prongs," she said fiercely, "one of these days, I won't miss on purpose and then you'll be sorry." he laughed and danced gaily (A/N: in both senses of the word) ahead, a boyish smile pasted over his handsome face.

"You better hurry up you guys, else Honeydukes will have run out of everything."

"I think it's practically impossible for Honeydukes to run out, they always have their shelves stacked to overflowing with things." called Remus as he walked slowly behind Sirius and Lily, imitating Sirius' every movement and kissing the air when Sirius planted kisses on Lily. As they walked through the Hogwarts grounds towards the gate where the carriages were waiting, light flakes of snow began to fall.

"Hey! Look!" Lily cried as the flakes gently landed on her pale freckled face and red hair, Sirius laughed and pulled her closer to him, James stopped and waited for Remus and Aveni so they could plot something behind the lover's backs. They reached the carriages safely and clambered in. They were slightly squashed as they were only meant for four so Lily sat on Sirius' lap like a graceful princess. When they reached Hogsmeade, the snow had started to fall even thicker and there was already a layer of it completely covering the ground. As they walked through the village they group laughed and talked merrily, they reached the sweet shop after several detours to Dervish and Banges, Zonko's, Gladrags and the Post Office.

"Lily!" James said, holding a sweet on his hand, "Try this!" he unsuccessfully tried to wipe the evil childish grin off his face, Lily laughed and, taking it, asked, "What is it?"

"Just try it and see!"

"If it blows me up or something, then you're for it James Potter," she warned jokingly, his grin became wider as she popped the small red and brown ball into her mouth. Her face quickly contorted with disgust, dislike and total nausea, she ran out of the shop and they could hear her spitting and gagging from inside. She came back into the shop, with an equally evil grin pasted over her face.

"Mr Potter, a Firing Nut Ball I presume?"

"The very same."

"Care to step outside Mr Potter?"

"What do you take me for?!" James yelled. "Freakin' Snape or summat? I ain't going outside with you, you'll bleeding kill me!!!"

"Too right I will, that was vile I hope you've had one before."

"You bet I have, thanks to Mr Padfoot over here," James said, bowing to Sirius who stood and pretended to be in front of an audience for thousands, having just won some absolutely major award he posed and smiled and clapped himself and posed some more and didn't stop for several minutes when Lily kissed him.

"Ooh!" he gasped after pulling out of the age long clinch, "I really should fool around more often!" and he pulled Lily back for more.

"You do enough of it as it is Sirius," laughed Remus.

"Well, are we actually going to buy anything here, or are we just going to stand about and act like fools while the whole school turns out to stare at us?" asked Aveni, conscious of the odd glances many people were giving the group and the disapproving glare of the shop owner.

Half an hour later the five of them sat around a small table in the packed pub, all sipping at Butterbeers, their pockets full of sweets, fireworks and Dungbombs.

"I hope this snow carries on," Remus said, setting down his empty glass, "when we get back to Hogwarts, we can have a proper snowball fight!"

"Yeah, proper teams as well," argued Sirius who had just been ganged up on by Aveni, James and Remus before they entered the Three Broomsticks and had had large quantities of snow placed down the back of his robes.

"But there's only five of us."

"Get one of the other Gryffindors to play."

"Get Snape to play!"

"Yeah!" agreed James gleefully, "five against one on Snape, sounds like a good idea to me!"

"That's evil James," said Lily.

"Who cares?! This is Snape we're talking about here Lil, don't tell me you've gone soft, Sirius what have you been feeding her?"

"Wouldn't you like to know!!!" Sirius laughed evilly and drummed his long fingers against each other, "It's you Prongs buddy, she just doesn't fancy you anymore, she's fancies Snape!"

"I should have guessed," James slumped against his chair in mock misery and started to 'cry' "Lily doesn't love me, Lily doesn't love me, Lily doesn't love me!"

"Too right I don't, I absolutely detest you, you are the filthiest piece of scum in the world, how dare you come near me, you're far too horrible for words! I love Snape of course, why hadn't I guessed before!"

"Go kiss him then!" laughed Remus as the subject of their conversation walked in the door.

"No! You!"

"Nah uh, I don't think so, you know what they call people who don't take dares?" Remus teased.

"Enlighten me."

"Shall I spell it out for you? C - O - W - A - " Remus was stopped by a punch on the arm from Sirius, not a proper one mind, only playful, Sirius dealt out another playful punch to James who was still whining that Lily didn't love him and was being 'comforted' by Aveni.

"Who's for a walk to the Shrieking Shack?" asked Aveni.

"Ugh," groaned Remus, "I've seen enough of that place to last . . . I mean, we went up there last time and the time before and it's up that massive long hill. Let's not" he said, quickly covering up his slip-up - Aveni didn't know about him being a werewolf and the others being Animagi, Lily did of course, James had told her and she had helped them quite a lot as well.

"Aww, come on Remus, it's a really nice a view." begged Aveni, desperate to walk somewhere with James again.

"It'll just be all white stupid."

"Yeah, come on Aveni, let's go back to Hogwarts." Sirius said getting up to go whatever she said.

"Yeah, it's freezing here," agreed James looking out the window at the swirling snow.

"Come on sweetie, up you get." Sirius bent to help Lily up and, after several cutting remarks made in the direction of Snape, the five of them braved the icy winds outside, clinging on to each others arms. Aveni had strategically managed to get between James and Remus and Lily was on the other side of Remus, clutching on to Sirius' arm so she wouldn't get blown away.

"No snowball fight today I think," shouted James.

"Definitely not," agreed Lily, "We'll freeze before we've even thrown one snowball, let alone massacred the other team."

"That's if I'm not on the other team!" replied James arrogantly.

"Oh!" Lily stopped and turned to James, "think I can't beat you do you?"

"Course you can't, you're a girl for God's sake!" James joked knowing it would make Lily see red, she didn't let him utter another word as she jumped on him, pummelling him with frozen fisted blows, she forced him to the ground, grabbed a large handful of snow and proceeded to stuff it down his robes.

"Aaaagh!!! Stop! Stop!" James screamed pushing Lily off him, he tumbled over her so he was on top.

"No! Potter you wouldn't dare! No!" she cried as he grinned evilly, holding an even larger handful of snow and edging it ever closer to her neck. He had shoved half of it down her robes before Sirius manage to haul him off her.

"Come on, look at you two, you're like kids! Honestly! Let's get up to the castle, it's freezing!" Sirius pulled Lily to her feet and wrapped an arm around her as they started to walk up the frozen lawn.

Back in the Gryffindor Common Room the group huddled round the fire, melting their frozen bodies, talking and laughing merrily, plotting how to use their new supplies of tricks and Firing Nut Balls. They talked late into the night about all manner of things, people came and went, pushing through the group to stand in front of the blazing fire themselves, eventually the other Gryffindors started to drift off to bed until there was only a few others left apart from the group of five sat in the corner, playing loud games of Explosive Snap.

"Ha ha!" cried Sirius exultantly when he had just won, yet again. "Who wants to be up against me, the marvellous, the supreme, champion, Sirius Black!" he almost bellowed, the others laughed from the depths of their chairs.

"Come on Padfoot, it's gone midnight, just leave it won't you?"

"Aww, you're all just scared you're gonna get beaten , suckers!"

"We all have got beaten Sirius."

"So? Nothing wrong with getting beaten again." he protested.

"God, just give it up Sirius," Remus yawned, "I'm going to bed, I'll be absolutely wrecked by tomorrow." Remus stood up and started to climb the steps up to the boys dormitory followed by shouts of "Night Remus!" from the others, Aveni stood up and announced that she too was going to bed and left the other three on their own in the Common Room. Sirius waited til Aveni had gone upstairs before taking Lily's hand, he was sat at her feet, looking at her with sad eyes, she knew what was coming.

"Lily," he started, "it's just not . . ." Lily interrupted him.

"Sirius, don't say it, I know what you're going to say so we'll just leave it, okay?" Sirius nodded, breathing a sigh of relief.

"Sorry Lily."

"It's alright, I knew it had to happen soon, don't worry."

"Thanks," he murmured, Lily slipped off the chair on to the floor so that she was kneeling next to him, she put her arms around him and kissed him softly,

"Thank you," she said on pulling out, "now go to bed and don't think about it," she ordered, Sirius nodded again, got up and made his way upstairs, Lily sighed and flopped back into her chair, having just broken up with the guy she loved most in the world.

"You alright Lil?" James asked tentatively.

"Yeah, I guess so," she nodded and put her head in her hands, "I couldn't stop it happening I guess, I mean he's just Sirius isn't he, he can't help it." it was obvious Lily was trying to calm herself down more than talk about it to James.

"Hey, don't worry Lil, you'll probably go out with him again next term."

"It took him six years to go out with me once, it's not going to be a term before he does it again James, be reasonable."

"Oh, don't get down on yourself Lily." James said, pulling her up and taking her to sit beside him on the sofa in the middle of the room, she followed unprotestingly and sat staring into the fire, biting her lip to stop the tears trickling down her cheeks.

"I'll get over it James don't worry, I'm always like this after I've split up with someone, you should know that by now, the amount of times you've sat up with me all night." James smiled,

"Yeah, I guess, here have this, don't want you getting cold now do we?" he said passing her a blanket which she took thankfully and wrapped herself up in it tightly.

"It's just that, well, you know how much I liked Sirius,"

"I think we all do Lil."

"Yeah, but you especially.

"Yeah, I had to sit through all those monologues of longing and wanting."

"Don't forget, I had all yours about Esme."

"I guess."

"See, it's just that I really liked him. I was saying to Aveni this morning that it would be six weeks on Monday and how well it was going and stuff and now, well. . ."

"I don't know why he did it Lil, God knows hot that guys mind works, he probably has a good enough reason, I'll find out for you."

"Thanks," she sniffed and wiped the tears from her faces with her hand, not having a tissue on her person. James and Lily talked into the small hours about nothing in particular when Lily finally drifted off into the realms of dream filled sleep. James looked down on her tired body thoughtfully. He tucked the blanket under her shoulders carefully so as not to wake her and gently wiped the drying tears from her face, his parents, like Lily's, were great lovers of Muggle (A/N: OMG! What am I saying, sorry Andrew, sorry Irving, sorry for blaspheming, I feel so bad now. *weeps in agony* sorry but I worship musicals and I feel reeeeeeally bad for calling them 'Muggle' SORRY!!!) musicals and had taken him to see several shows in the holidays, the words of one particular song came back to him now, he sat down carefully beside the sleeping Lily, and sang quietly,

"All alone,

You think you're on your own,

You think there's no one in the world

Who cares for you;

That isn't true,

There's me."

James Potter did care for Lily, but only as a friend and that was how he meant it he thought, moving on to the next part of the song.

"I may not be

The one you want to see

But if you need some one who's kind,

Then look behind

And then you'll find

There's me.

I'll be near,

Standing by,

Never fear,

You can cry,

In a while,

You will smile,

And I'll be there to see."

He was there to see as well, whenever Lily cried he was there to help her, that was what best friends were for wasn't it? As he sang huskily, Lily moved slightly in her sleep and a hazy smile drifted on to her pale face. James carefully brushed a strand of copper coloured hair from off her face.

By yourself

You have to cry yourself

Nobody else can cry the tears

You have to cry;

But I will try,

There's me.

Until then

When you're OK again

You look around,

Find I'm no longer there

I'll still be near somewhere;

You're not alone,

There's me;

There's always me."

The pair had always promised to friends forever, friends only mind, no more, no less, they had always been there for each other through thick and thin, when James fell out with Sirius, when either of them got dumped by anyone, when Lily was really sick and had to stay in the hospital wing for over a week, James and Aveni had been at her side almost the whole time, but for when they had to be in lessons. As James came to the end of his song, he got up and quietly crept up to his dormitory and into his warm bed.

II: Wow! And I thought 'Memories' was long and this is only the first part (all you guys probably think it's really short but I don't so poo u)! Sorry, it's odd and not a lot happening. Hope you enjoyed it coz I enjoyed writing it. It started in two parts but I put them together because they were too short. I was gonna put little descriptiony bits in-between the verses of 'I Got Lost In His Arms' but then I didn't want to, and it's just basically describing what's happening/what happened between Lily and Sirius and I'm still not sure about the bits in between 'There's Me' it makes it sounds like they're together - THEY'RE JUST FRIENDS!!! (but without them I think it sounds worse hmmm). James and Lily will get together in the end, rest assured. Sorry, I've just realised all my Disclaimers and Author's Notes are about as long as the whole story!!! Sorry, I babble a lot
