"Where the hell do you think you're going?" Hermione wanted to know.

"Quidditch try-outs," Lana responded as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

"Absolutely not."

"Why not?" Lana wanted to know.

"Because," Hermione said, putting down the Wednesday edition of The Daily Prophet as she did so. "Ron and Harry are co-captains."

"So?"

"So? Haven't you noticed something lately?"

Lana thought for a minute. "No."

"I'm always with Ron. You're always with Harry."

"Hence they're our boyfriends."

"Right. But when have you seen Harry and Ron together? Except that time a few days ago when we went shopping."

Lana considered this. "You're right." She put down her Nimbus1999. "It's Harry and Ron's thing."

Hermione nodded. "Yeah."

"What's in the papers today?"

"Well, now that October's started, it's a whole buncont>

"Do we get off on Halloween?"

Hermione looked at Lana strangely. "Why would we get off on Halloween?"

Lana shrugged. "Just figured that since it's all real witches and such, we would get off."

"How do you celebrate Halloween in America?"

Lana sighed, a dreamy smile across her face. "Usually someone has a Halloween party and we get all dressed up in costume We usually end up watching a scary movie and having popcorn fights." She laughed. "Then we all go trick or treating together. It's great. We've been trick or treating since forever, and all our parents say we're to old to go, but hey, you can never be to old for chocolate, right?"

Hermione nodded. "What's trick or treating?"

"What's trick or treating?" Lana repeated in disbelief. "All the kids get dressed up in costumes and we go ringing the doorbells of the neighbor's houses and we say "trick or treat." Then they give us candy."

"Oh. That's cool. Halloween's not like that here."

"What do you guys do?"

"Well, there are floating pumpkins everywhere. And a huge feast. But I guess for the most part, it's a normal day."

"How boring," Lana commented.

"Yeah, I guess it is kind of boring when you compare it to American Halloween." She shrugged. "Oh well."

"Hermione, what does Dumbledore think of muggles?"

"Most of our school isn't pureblood, so there's a little muggle in most of us. He doesn't have a problem with it, though."

"What about muggle traditions?"

"I don't know. Why?"

"Maybe we could have a costume party. Or a masquerade!"

"Oh!" Hermione breathed. She pictured herself in a full, formfitting gown, probably some deep shade of red or wine, with a jeweled mask covering her face. Ron would be dressed handsomely in a tuxedo, his eyes covered by a mask as well. "That would be amazing." She squealed. "Oh my god, Lana, that would be amazing! You should definitely talk to Dumbledore about it."

"Will you heor="Black">

"Me? How would I do it? No, you're the change in our school, he would probably listen to you. But just be honest."

"Okay. I'll talk to him about it after Defense class today."

"Well," Hermione scoffed. "That would be quite useless, as Dumbledore is no longer our teacher. The new teacher is arriving today."

"Oh." Lana looked upset. "I'll talk to him anyway." She sighed. "Shower time."

Harry hovered midair on his broomstick, about 20 other Gryffindors just a few feet away from him. Ron hovered just next to him. "Okay, guys, we've decided on the 2003-2004 Gryffindor Quidditch team. As we call your name, please fly on over to this side."

"It was a hard decision," Ron said seriously. "The Gryffindor Seeker will be Harry Potter." Ron clapped, grinning.

"And the Gryffindor Keeper will be Ron Weasley." Harry cheered, causing Ron to laugh.

"Okay, as for the tw continued.

"Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan."

Dean and Seamus shook hands with each other, grinning wildly, then flew and waited behind Ron and Harry.

"And for the three Chasers," Harry said. "Ginny Weasley."

"Well done, Gin," Ron congratulated.

"Thanks, Ron," she said, flying over to Dean and leaning her head on his shoulder.

"The second Chaser," Ron continued. "Is Angela Johnson." Harry smiled at Angela, Angelina Johnson's younger sister who seemed to have inherited the same good looks and amazing talent as her older sister.

"And last, but certainly not least..."

"Lavender Brown."

Lavender grinned, her pale cheeks blossoming with color as she flew her Comet 350 and stopped behind Seamus.

"The rest of you guys, thank you for trying out. It was really a hard decision."

Harry waited until those who had not been chosen had gone back inside. "Well, 2003-2004 team. Here we are. Practice is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from five to eight, on Saturdays from nine to noon."

Ginny groaned. "What happened to sleeping in on Saturdays?"

"That's what Sundays are for," her brother informed her. "There is no practice tomorrow or Saturday. We'll see you Tuesday at five." Then he paused. "Class dismissed."

"Class dismissed?" Harry asked.

Ron shrugged. "I've always wanted to say that."

Harry laughed.

Harry was absorbed in writing up new Quidditch plays in the library. Lana had to talk to Professor Dumbledore, and Hermione and Ron were off doing the love thing, so Harry was left on his own. Not that that was a bad thing, of course. He had work to do. And that stupid parchment for Professor Fiora.

"Of all the places in the castle, do you have to be here, Potter?" Draco asked in disgust.

"Or you could leave."

"I could," Harry agreed. "But I got here first. You're more than welcome to join me."

"How generous," Draco said sarcastically, sitting down across the table from Harry. "What are you working on?"

"Quidditch plays. Ron and I are co-captains this year."

"I heard." Draco lookeriting. "Congratulations."

"Thanks," Harry said, a little surprised. "Who's captaining the Slytherin team?"

"Do I care? It's not me, though."

Harry laughed. "What was I thinking? That you would actually know someone other than yourself."

Draco sneered. "I know you," he said. "You should consider yourself lucky."

"Oh, I do," Harry said with mock seriousness. "You ofat's a huge complement."

"I was kidding, git."

"I know that." Then, after a second, he added, "git."

"Where's the rest of your fan club?"

"Lana has to talk to Professor Dumbledore, and Hermione and Ron are off together."

"Congratulations, Weasley," Draco murmured. "He could have done a lot worse."

"He wouldn't have anyone else except 'Mione."

"'Mione?" Draco asked, his blond eyebrows raising.

Harry shrugged.

"So you were expecting this? This Weasley-Granger union?"

"The things you miss out when you're not a Gryffindor," Harry sighed. "Yes, Malfoy, everyone was expecting this. Just because you liked Hermione doesn't mean she liked you, you know."

Harry rolled his eyes. "I'm sure."

"Oh, you mean that thing in our second year. Okay, so that wise crack she made about buying my way into the team was.."

"Entirely true?" Harry finished.

"Yeah, that too," Draco said, having the decency to blush. "What's your team like?"

"I know that, idiot. Who's on the team?"

"Who's on yours?" Harry asked.

"I asked first."

"I don't have to answer."

Draco muttered something inaudible under his breath. "Never mind. I'll see when you play."

"Okay."

Draco fell silent. "Hey, Potter?"

"Hmm?" he asked, not looking up from the plays he was writing.

"Did we just have a bonding moment?"

"Dream on, Malfoy," Harry said, grinning.

"Shit! We have a bonding moment!"

"We managed to get through a civil conversation, Malfoy. It isn't that rare for you, is it?"

Draco shook his head. "This is gonna' be on the cover of The Prophet tomorrow. 'Potter and Malfoy: Best Friends.' I better start filing for a transfer."

"The sooner, the better," Harry said sweetly.

"Shut up, Potter. You know you love the publicity."

Harry nodded solemnly. "You better leave before I start charging you to sit next to me."

"Shut up, Potter. I'm leaving."

"Ciao," Harry said, fluttering his fingers delicately. "Do call, Malfie. We'll have to do tea."

"'Malfie'?" Draco repeated. "Do I get to call you 'Potty' then?"

"Just leave," Harry said, stiffling a laugh.

Draco glared at him, then left.

"Harry Potter, I am so proud of you," Lana said sliding into the seat next to him and kissing his cheek. "You and Draco just had a bonding moment."

"Yeah," Harry said quietly. "I guess we did." Harry shook his head, grinning. "Go figure."

"You know," Professor Dumbledore said to everyone at dinner that night. "I had a talk with one of the students today."

Everyone's eyes were on the headmaster. What's going on?

"We were talking about Halloween. I'm sure you're all aware of the fact that Halloween is coming up soon."

The students all murmured their agreement.

"And I thought to myself, shouldn't the students get off for Halloween?"

The students cheered.

"No classes on Halloween!" Ron said excitedly.

"I don't know..." Lana said mysteriously. "I have a feeling that something else is going to happen."

"Okay, Lana Weasley," Hermione demanded. "You know something. Spill."

"My lips are sealed," Lana grinned, zipping her lips and pretending to throw away an imaginary key.

"I'll unzip 'em," Harry volunteered, kissing her gently.

"But," Professor Dumbledore continued. "We're not going to have off on Halloween." He grinned as the students chorused their dissapointment. "Oh come now, don't be so upset. But listen to me. Instead, on Halloween, classes will end early. This way you can all get ready for the Hogwarts first annual masquerade."

"Lana! You didn't tell me he said yes!" Hermoine squealed.

"I wasn't allowed."

"You knew about this?" Ron demanded.

Lana nodded.

"You sneaky little bitch," he said grumpily. "Some best friend slash family member you are."

"Aw... Ronnie... don't be mad."

"A masquerade, huh?" Harry said thoughtfully. "Are you going to go?"

"Of course! I suggested it!"

"Are you going to go, Hermione?" Ron asked.

Hermione nodded eagerly. "You?"/font>

"Of course. We should all go together."

"But what of these masks? Where do we get them from?" Harry asked to no one in particular.

"Hogsmeade. We have to over the weekend to get Professor Fiora's book, anyway." Lana took a sip of apple juice from her goblet.

"Ugh," Ron said. "Can you believe her attitude? Honestly, I think I'd rather have Umbridge as a teacher again."

"Oh, God, no," Hermione said. "Anyone's bett>

"Good point. And Fiora's a nervous one. We could probably get her to quit by the end of the week."

"Ron! That's horrible!"

"I'm in," Lana said.

"I'll write to Fred and George. Maybe we could have Dumbledore teach us again."

"Or Professor Lockhart!" Hermione said excitedly.

"He's so hot," Lana said dreamily.

"Yeah..."

"Oh go on," Harry said, pretending to be offended. "Talk about other guys like Ron and I aren't even here."

Hermione looked from Harry to Ron, and to Harry again. "Okay," she shrugged.

"Hey!" Ron said, laughing. "How would you like it if Harry and I talked about some other girl?"

Lana shrugged. "Go ahead. You're entitled."

"Ron may be entitled," Harry said, "and so am I. But it doesn't matter. You're the only one for me." He smiled at her.

"Yeah," Ron said. "Same. Except with Hermione, not Lana."

Lana laughed. "Ron, I'm sorry, but you're my cousin. I just don't see you in that way."

"Shut up," Ron said, throwing a buttered roll at her head.

Lana gasped. "Ronald Weasley, I cannot believe you threw a buttered roll at me!" She picked up her chicken bone and aimed it at Ron. He hit him right between the eyes and bounced off of his head into his laps

"Owch."

Hermione giggled.

"Oh yeah, Hermione?" Ron said. "Well, see how funny it is when you're drenched!" He took his water and poured it over his girlfriend's head.

"RON!"

Harry laughed, high-fiving his best friend. "Sorry, 'Mione, but the look on your face was classic. Colin should have taken a picture of that and put it into the yearbook for us next year."

"Yeah? Join the club," she said, slamming her pasta into his face.

"Mmm... yummy!" Harry licked lips. "More!"

For a few minutes, the four of them laughed insanely and continued to throw the food around. The rest of the Gryffindor's looked on and laughed, except for Ginny, who buried her head in her hands and muttered, "Oh. My. God." over and over.

"Excuse me!" McGonagall said, glaring at them. "Food fights are not permitted. You all know that. uot;

Harry blushed, then looked over at Professor Dumbledore, who was standing behind Professor McGonagall and trying very hard to not burst out into laughter. "Busted," Professor Dumbledore mouthed.

"Ten points from Gryffindor for each of you," McGonagall declared. Snape looked like Christmas had come early. "And detention for each of you." She spun around on her heel and walked back to the teacher's table, Dumbledore right behind her.

Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Lana waited until they had sat back down. They looked at each other for a minute, then burst into fits of laughter.
