The Black Heir

~Prologue~

Remus Lupin was sitting in a corner of his room at the burrow. The Weasleys were kind enough to give him a home after what happened at the Ministry a year ago. Had it been that long since that fateful night, that long since Sirius died? Remus couldn't believe it. He was now the only marauder left, well, other than Pettigrew. Slimy bastard Remus thought. His thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. He got up to open it, but Arthur Weasley had already entered the room.

"Sorry to bother you Remus," he said, "but we were going through Dumbledore's things and we found this." He handed Remus a letter. "It's addressed to you and everything. He wrote it the night he...well-"

"Died." Remus finished the sentence for him. "Thanks Arthur." He slid the letter into his pocket; he couldn't stand the sight of Dumbledore's writing at the moment. I'll read it later, he thought.

Later, before he went to sleep, he remembered the letter Arthur had given him. He took it out of his pocket and opened it.

Dear Remus,

If you are reading this, you must be feeling guilty about my death. Don't. We have more pressing matters to deal with. I want you to go to a small wizarding town called Magic Cove. Then you will go to number 5, Magic Cove Rd. There you will find the only one who can reopen Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place. I was wrong in thinking that Bellatrix was the only one who could open it. I know, you are probably thinking that she has to be, Sirius had no heir. He does have an heir. His daughter lives in the address above, bring her back to London and reopen headquarters. You will need to be careful, Voldemort will have figured this out already, he will have sent Death Eaters to go and get her. She can take care of the Death Eaters herself. You are her rightful guardian, although she will be of age in a few months, but I expect you and Tonks will take good care of her. She must be sent to Hogwarts where she will be safe. At the moment, she is in more danger that even Harry. Please be safe. Make sure Lily is safe.

Albus Dumbledore

Remus read and reread the letter, it was all too confusing, and who is Lily? The only Lily he ever knew was dead, and has been dead for 16 years. Remus didn't want to think about at the moment. Thinking of Lily made him think of James. He didn't want to do this, but he decided it was best to do what Dumbledore asked. He wrote a note to the Weasleys.

Went to America. I will return in a few days at most. Stay safe.
