The Longest Day: Chapter One - Troublemakers
"Saturday detention, Mr. Potter!" Snape sang out in his silkiest voice. "The next time you have something to say, just say it! No need to beat around the bush." Harry glared at Snape, knowing there was nothing he could do. At least Ginny would be there; she had been caught sneaking into the Room of Requirement again with another random boy. Luckily for him, the boy at least managed to escape. Neville was in trouble often enough, he didn't need to get caught with Ginny. Even with Ginny, detention was a poor way to spend a Saturday. To top it off, with the new school policy, that meant he had a whole Saturday of sitting in the dungeons with the school's biggest miscreants.... eight whole hours. It was going to be the longest daf his life.

"Mr. Malfoy! That is it! I've warned you a million times and let you off, but this is the final straw! You have Saturday detention, and if I catch you trying to curse a third year ever again, I will write your father and have you suspended! You might have caused her serious harm! For your sake I hope you have not!" With that, Minerva McGonagall whirled around and stormed out of the Slytherin common room.
"Old hag," Draco muttered to his only male friend, Blaise Zabini.
"It's not so bad," Blaise said cheerfully, "I have detention too. I got caught snogging Aluthera in the dungeons again. She's got detention tonight with Filch, 'cause it's her first offence, but hey, this might be fun. We can cause all sorts of trouble, and I hear the girls in detention put out." Blaise grinned lecherously. He was dating Aluthera Macnair, and wouldn't have cheated on her, but he was dedicated to the cause of 'getting Draco laid'. He felt it was his purpose, as Draco was too uptight.
"If you insist, Zabini," Draco said with a smirk. Fun or not, it would still be the longest day of his life, Harry Potter's (and for that matter, Ginny Weasley's) presence assured that, if for entirely different reasons.

Anthony Goldstein may have been a Ravenclaw, and therefore intelligent, but he still was a teenager, and he did stupid things. Stupid things like writing a note to Padma Patil, and suggesting lewd things. She wouldn't have turned him in, but Hermione Granger would have; and she did when she found the note. She felt it was her Head Girl duty. Anthony was scandalized, a Ravenclaw with Saturday detention? It was unheard of! And Anthony felt the disgrace that night in the common room. He was snubbed, almost as cruelly as Luna 'Looney' Lovegood usually was. She ignored it though, and smiled at Anthony. "Buck up, it isn't that bad," she said with a lopsided smile. "At least I'll be there too, and we can talk about the American Aurors." Anthony groaned. It wasn't bad enough that he had an eight-hour detention, but now he had to share it with Looney? It was going to be the longest day of his life.

"Aluthera Macnair and Millicent Bulstrode, this is the third time this week I've had to talk to you about using magic parchment to send notes to each other. What I don't understand is why must you do it when one of you is in my class? Now, I'm sorry, but I have to give you both a Saturday detention." The two girls looked at each other, both blushing bright red in shame. Professor Sprout didn't look much happier; she hated disciplining students, and especially sentencing them to a Saturday with Snape. But rules were rules. Aluthera already had a detention for that night, but this too? And poor Millicent, she had never been in trouble before. Aluthera knew she shouldn't have written her friend in class, and especially not using the magic parchment, but she couldn't wait for the end of the period to tell her about the detention. If only they were in the same year, this wouldn't have happened. The girls looked miserable. They knew this was going to be the longest day of their lives.

Snape groaned, and looked at the list again. Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley, Draco Malfoy. That right there was bad enough, but with the others on the list... He sighed, knowing it was his punishment. Dumbledore had given him this job after catching him taking extra points off Gryffindor. He knew he was going to need extra headache potion; Saturday was going to be the longest day of his life.
