All You Have To Do Is Smile

********************

Chapter Three: From the Ministry to Kings Cross

**********

All you have to do is smile,

To be on my trial.

Whether you're ruled guilty is up to you.

**********

Jamie directed Jenna through the gate, still having a firm grip on her shoulder.

"What was that for?"

Jamie rolled her eyes and launched into an explanation. "Because...don't you remember that you have a scar on your forehead? Suspicion might rise to why you are here, being a Malfoy and all. Lucius might be looking for you and that guy back there might have been a friend of your dads. That's why I got you out of there before that baboon could put two and two together."

"Oh."

They entered the gate into a smaller hall where at least twenty lifts with golden grilles stood. Jamie directed Jenna towards one of them. Nearby, stood a young witch holding a huge pile of papers.

"Oh hello, Jamie," said the witch.

"Hello Belinda. What have you got there?"

"Oh. It's just a bunch of parchment for Ludo."

Then with much rattling and banging, a lift came to their level. The golden grille slid back and Jamie, Jenna, and Belinda, and some other witches and wizards stepped into the lift. Many of them were shooting glances in Jamie and Jenna's direction. As they did so, Jenna took the hair from behind her ears and tried to cover her face. The grilles slid shut with a great crash and the lift began traveling up slowly, while the same cool female voice from the telephone box, rang out again.

"Level Seven, Department of Magical Games and Sports, incorporating the British and Irish Quidditch League Headquarters, Official Gobstones Club and Ludicrous Patents Office."

The lift doors opened. Belinda Jorkins, sister to Bertha Jorkins, and a man, who was having difficulty carrying a number of broomsticks, disappeared down the corridor. The doors closed and the lift began to move. The woman's voice announced:

"Level Six, Department of Magical Transportation, incorporating the Floo Network Authority, Broom Regulatory Control, Portkey Office and Apparation Test Centre."

Once again the lift doors opened and four of five witches and wizards got out. Then the lift clattered upwards.

"Level Five, Department of International Magical Co-operation, incorporating the International Magical Trading Standards Body, the International Magical Office of Law and the International Confederation of Wizards, British Seats."

When the doors opened a few more witches and wizards exited the lift. Then the doors slammed shut.

"Level Four, Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, incorporating Beast, Being and Spirit Divisions, Goblin Liaison Office and Pest Advisory Bureau."

"Excuse me," said a wizard carrying a cardboard box that was admitting loud crows and breaths of fire. The doors clanged shut again.

"Level Three, Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, including the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad, Obliviator Headquarters and Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee."

"Maybe we should get off at this floor. You're a magical accident and catastrophe," said Jamie.

Jenna hit her playfully with a look of mock terror on her face. Everybody left the lift on this floor except for Jamie, Jenna, a witch with a very long sheet of parchment that was trailing to the floor, and a man that was near balding. From what you could tell, he had flaming red hair. The lift jittered upwards again. Then the door opened and the voice made its announcement.

"Level Two, Department of Magical Law Enforcement, including the Improper Use of Magic Office, Auror Headquarters and Wizengamot Administration Services."

"This is it," said Jamie. They followed the witch and wizard out of the lift into a corridor with many doors. The witch went through the first door on the left. The wizard walked down the hall and turned. Jamie led Jenna the same way. They turned a corner and walked through a pair of heavy oak doors and found themselves in a cluttered area that was divided by cubicles. The nearest cubicle had a lopsided sign that read: Auror Headquarters. The wizard with the flaming red hair continued to walk further down the cubicles and then disappeared.

"Who was that man?" asked Jenna.

"That was Arthur Weasley, Head of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts."

Jenna remembered her father saying that she was like a Weasley. Was this the family he was talking about? He had no right to speak of this man that way. Jamie could tell that Jenna had something on her mind.

"You okay?" she asked.

"Fine," Jenna replied quickly. There was a little hint of bitterness in her voice.

"Are you sure that...."

"Just drop it! I'm fine and have nothing to say!"

"Whoa! I'll back off. Sorry I even asked. Just calm down."

Jamie then turned left, then left again, then to her right. She stopped in front of a door that read: Auror Headquarters, Jamie Lilith Potter. She took a small golden key out of her pocket and opened the door. "This is my office. One of the only Aurors to have one."

Jenna looked around her surroundings. Jamie's office had pictures of wanted wizards and witches, posters of Puddlemere United (Oliver Wood's team), a few pictures of her family, many pictures of none other than Oliver Wood himself in Quidditch robes, and articles from the Daily Prophet were posted on the walls. Jenna spotted five picture frames on Jamie's desk. She looked at where Jamie was. She seemed to be busy searching for a file of some sort in her filing cabinet. Jenna took one of the frames of the desk. It had a family with the same red hair as the man Jenna now knew as Mr. Weasley. In fact, he happened to be in the picture. Jenna guessed that this was his whole family.

"Hey Jamie," she said.

"What," Jamie said nonchalantly. She was still busy searching in the cabinet.

"Who are these people?" Jamie stopped her search and closed the cabinet and went over to Jenna.

"That's the Weasley's."

"Tell me something I don't know."

"Well, I'll start on the left then go right. First is Bill. He's the oldest."

"How can he be the oldest?"

"Of the children nimnut!"

"Oh."

"Now, next is Charlie. He works with Dragons in Romania. And then..." Jamie stopped and looked over at her new friend. She seemed to be daydreaming about something because she was definitely not paying attention. "Hello! You wanted me to tell you who these people are and you won't listen!"

"Huh? Oh right! I'm so sorry Jamie. It's just that, well, Charlie is a hunk. I mean, look at the guy! He is so hot in leather! Maybe you could hook us up?"

"No! Now please! Would you like me to continue or go back to my work?"

"Oh please! Continue!"

"So, that's Fred and George," she said whilst pointing at a pair of boys in the center of the photo. "They... I guess you could say that they're the troublemakers of the family."

"Bad boys, eh?"

"Yes. Next is Ron. He's our age and of course goes to Hogwarts. My personal opinion is that he's a little bit of a dolt but that information doesn't get out of this room. Got it?"

"Yeah sure."

"And last of the seven Weasley kids is Ginny. She's a year younger and also goes to Hogwarts. Gin, that's a nickname for her, is the only girl, besides her mother, Molly Weasley, in the family. Her real name is Virginia. And well, I just said the next person in the photo, Mrs. Weasley. And last is Mr. Weasley, the one you saw today. Now I have to get back to work."

Jenna nodded and put the photo down and picked up another. This one had a woman in a wedding dress and two men. One was holding the women's hand and the other was behind them. All were laughing. She assumed that this was Jamie's parents wedding. She had learned about her parents' tragical death and never spoke another word about it.

"That the wedding photo?" asked Jamie.

"Yeah. Who's the man behind your parents?"

"That's Sirius Black. A good friend of theirs."

"Wasn't he that murder on the loose three years ago?"

"Yeah." Her response was clear to not say anymore on the subject.

Jenna took that cue to take another photo as she placed the other back. This one showed a girl with bushy brown hair and large front teeth, a boy that looked most peculiarly like Ron, and another boy with jet-black hair, and round rimmed spectacles. All of them were waving madly in her direction. Jenna could slightly see Jamie in the back round, her thumbs in her ears, waving her hands about and sticking out her tongue. The boys had their arms around the girl, grinning like madmen.

"And....." Jenna wasn't able to finish her sentence because Jamie was behind her and started naming each person for Jenna's benefit once again. She wasn't going to get any work done today.

"The girl is Hermione Granger. She's in your year and will be in your dormitory. Unless, of course, she decides to have her own room this year or Dumbledore gives you a room to yourself. Anyway, that is Ron Weasley and the other boy is my brother, Harry Potter. I'm sure you've heard all about him." Jamie was now sifting through her desk.

"Sorry. No." She halted her sifting and looked at her friend.

"You haven't heard about the Boy-Who-Lived?"

"I have already said no."

Jamie then smacked her head as she realized that she had only known of the wizarding world two months ago. "Never mind. You'll find out at Hogwarts that I'm sure. Although, I am surprised that Draco hasn't mentioned anything about him."

Jenna turned red. "Oh that Harry Potter. I guess I didn't put two and two together. So, he's your brother?"

"Uh huh."

"This sucks!"

"Why?"

"Because! I have to be horribly cruel to him! If I'm not, my father said he'd kick me out of the house. And, starting this year, if I am seen with you by Draco or my parents, I am to become...."

"Become what?"

"A Death Eater. Oh please don't tell Jamie! I really shouldn't have said that!"

Jamie felt sorry for her. The Malfoy's wasn't where Jenna belonged. She was different from them. Jenna, trying to push the subject aside, grabbed the closest picture frame and put the one she previously had picked up, down. It showed Lily and James Potter with two babies that had to be Jamie and Harry.

"You were adorable Jamie. What happened to you?"

"I don't know." Clearly, she was trying to process what Jenna had just told her. It was enough to make any brain spin.

Jenna desperate to stop her friend's train of thought shouted, "Really hot girls in teeny weeny no strap bikinis!"

"What?" Jenna laughed. It always worked. Jamie then began moving the piles of paper on her desk. Jenna placed the picture back on the desk and took the last and largest frame. It was divided into four. One square had an owl, which Jenna assumed to be Jamie's owl Tobey, even though she had never seen the owl before. The second section had two girls. One seemed to be a younger Jamie and one of her school friends. Jenna knew this only because they were wearing Hogwarts robes. The two others were of Jenna just after getting let out of St. Mungos and....

"Why do you have a picture of my brother in Quidditch robes?"

The papers Jamie had been moving were pushed of the desk and onto the floor. "Give me that!" She snatched it from Jenna's loose grip and looked at the photo, trying to figure out why she had the picture. "Harry's behind him catching the snitch."

"Okay." Jenna grinned. She was always good at changing the subject when needed. She just wished that Jamie would forget everything she had said about her parents, mostly her father, and the whole Death Eater thing. Jamie picked up the papers to hide her face from Jenna. But why was she hiding? She had no clue. In the attempt to hide she found what she had been looking for the whole time. "Ah ha! I found it! Now we better get going. I have to get this to Fudge before quarter to ten, so that we can leave by ten."

"But Jamie," Jenna said, holding back her laughter, "It is quarter to ten now!" She pointed to the clock that hung on the wall. It indeed was quarter to ten.

"Fuck!"

"What?"

"I meant. Uh... damn it!"

Jenna eyed her speciously. Her arms were crossed and she was tapping her foot.

"I'll just get Tobey." Jamie opened one of her drawers in her desk and pulled out a crystal whistle and blew. Only what seemed like seconds, a beautiful snowy owl with peacock blue eyes emerged. Jamie quickly scribbled a note and attached the paperwork and note to Tobey's leg. The owl didn't move after everything was attached. It was looking at Jenna as though he could read her mind. Jamie patted Tobey and he flew off.

"That was a very good looking owl and well trained."

"Uh huh. If you don't mind me asking, why was he looking at you as though..."

"He was reading my mind?"

"Yeah." Jamie said rather bluntly.

"Well that can wait."

"Oh right. Let's go."

**********

"Draco!" called Narcissa. "We really must be going now. Don't want to be late."

His parents fight had ended when they saw that Draco was banging his head against the wall, causing him to scrap his skin and start to bleed. His father had said that he was an idiot boy but Narcissa called for Winnie to come with a wet towel. He felt fine now and why he had banged his head against the wall was put into the back of his mind.

"Coming Mum!" He ran down the stairs and reached his mother in the Entrance Hall.

"We have to go so get in."

Draco obediently opened the door and hopped in. The drive to Kings Cross was always the worst. His father would comment on his wardrobe, making sure his son looked the best. Also he talked about his grades and not being first in his year. Draco was always telling his father that he was second but that didn't matter to him. It was first or nothing. Narcissa was proud of Draco regardless but didn't say anything. She always remained quiet unless her opinion was asked. Speaking of clothes, Draco had forgotten to change out of the shirt that Jenna had made him. His father was sure to notice.

"Draco, what is that you're wearing? I don't think I've seen it before."

"And I thought you knew every single article of clothing that I own. But I guess now you do not."

"Don't take that tone with me boy. I was only inquiring because of your task. You want to look you best."

"A task? What task?"

"You've already forgotten?"

Draco scanned his brain. What sort of task was he set out to do? Then it hit him like a ton of bricks. Jamie Potter. That was his task.

"No father. I have not forgotten. I didn't realize what task you were talking about."

Lucius looked at his son suspiciously. He seemed different and not in a good way.

"Good. I suggest that you complete it, say, by this weekend?"

Draco was a little puzzled. Was it not Sunday? So that meant he was to ask her today? But what if she wasn't there? What if he couldn't?

"Draco? Answer me boy!"

"Yes father. I will complete the task that is set for me."

"Very well then."

The window that separated the passenger and driver parts of the limo opened. "Mr. Malfoy. We have arrived at Kings Cross Station," said Arnold. "Should I get a trolley for young Mr. Malfoy?"

"Yes Arnold and hurry."

"Yes Mr. Malfoy. Whatever you wish."

Arnold was about to step out of the limo when Lucius called him back. "Aren't you forgetting something?"

Arnold jumped. Draco thought this unnecessary.

"Oh yes. Of course." He got out of the limo and went to open the door for the Malfoy clan. Lucius came out first, more like gliding out. Narcissa exited next and Arnold offered her a hand, which she took. Draco was last and was holding two owls in his hand, though only one was seen. Arnold then hurried off to get a trolley.

"Draco, darling. Your father and I are going to go on ahead through the platform. Will you be alright?"

"Yes mum. I'll be fine." Narcissa gave her son a hug and went off with his father.

Now Draco had to do some quick thinking. How was he going to get both trunks out and on one trolley? And better yet, how was he going to do this unnoticed.

"Young Mr. Malfoy. Here is your trolley. Would you like me to get your trunk?"

Could Draco trust him to not tell his father about there being two trunks? He was about to find out.

"Yes Arnold. But before you do, may I ask you something?"

"Of course Sir."

"Can I trust you to keep a secret."

Arnold looked taken back as if nobody had asked this of him before.

"Yes, I can."

"Good, because I brought my sister's owl and trunk. I need to try and hid them so my father won't notice. You got that?"

"Yes, Sir, but may I ask why you want to hid them? Why not just bring them in? You sister will be waiting for us on the other side of the platform, will she not?"

"That's one thing I do not know."

Just then, with Draco noticing, two girls were arriving at the main entrance of Kings Cross Station.
