Author's Note:
There is so much bitching going on in this chapter. Lots of fluff, I'm afraid, but I've got a good ending *wink, wink*

Chapter 2

Thursday 1995

I feel weird when I'm here, at Hogwarts. Everyone seems to be so nice to Cho, just because she was Cedric's girlfriend. I could never tell her what happened between him and me. She'd never forgive me. Even if we are best friends. I've really got to break our friendship. But how? I need help.

Thursday was a typical summer day, the type where the birds are singing, the pigeons were cooing, and it was not the sort of thing Alyce liked.

She was striding towards the greenhouses, her ponytail bobbing, left, right, left, right, with Cho desperately trying to keep up with her.

"Alyce? Alyce, wait up, you're going to fast!" she called.

'You said the same thing, when it happened,' thought Alyce.

Cho had been flirting with Cedric. Alyce was waiting at the steps, like she was just the best friend, no more.

She had been calling over to Cho, asking her to hurry up. Cho was doing so, until she 'accidently' bumped into Cedric. Then she had started flirting with him.

Cedric had noticed Alyce's shouting, and tried to stop Cho. He kept looking at Alyce. It was like she had handcuffed him to her, and he was not allowed to complain.

Then, Alyce just walked off, after all, Cho had made her promise that boys don't come first, and Alyce was loyal to that rule. Why couldn't Cho.

Cedric quickly said goodbye, and raced after Alyce.

He calles her name, but Alyce would not answer.

He eventually caught her, and grabbed her by the shoulders.

"Hey!" she cried, struggling to get out his grasp.

"Alright," he replied, and he did so.

Thinking he wouldn't, Alyce looked at him confused.

"I'm sorry, it was my fault," Cedric said. He looked so cute, he was a like a puppy, and she couldn't stay mad at him.

"No, it was my fault, I stormed off in a huff, I'm such a cow sometimes," she laughed.

Cedric chuckled, it made Alyce's knees feel weak.

"Guess I'll see you later at potions then," he said looking at her seducivly.

"...Yeah, I guess you will"

"Goodbye then"

"Bye...."

Then Cedric headed off to his next lesson.

Alyce dizzily walked to hers, but then she heard Cho calling her.

"Alyce? Alyce, wait up, you're going too fast!" she called.

Cho had caught up with her, and was her partner for herbology.

Alyce looked at the girl who had used her one true love.

Cho's dark hair was in a plait, with a bright blue scrunchie.

Then she looked at Professor Sprout. They said she knew Cedric the best.

She was blabbering on about some sort of poisonous ivy.

'Ivy?' thought Alyce, 'We did all sorts of ivy in 3rd year.'

She sighed and listened to her mad-hair professor drone on about how different ivys have been used for centuries.

"This is so boring," whispered Cho.

"Yeah, it is like she thinks we're 2nd years or something," Alyce whispered back.

"Doesn't Kyle look so hot?" said Cho, not so quietly.

"What did you say, Miss Chang?" asked Professor Sprout.

'Oh God,' thought Alyce. 'The whole class is looking at us.'

Alyce would have gone red and say, 'Nothing', but Cho wasn't like that.

"I said, ' "Doesn't ivy help when you get shot?" ' said Cho, her chin high.

"What an educational question, Miss Chang!" said Sprout, excitedly. "My, I didn't know you were the type! Five points to Ravenclaw!"

Alyce grinned at her best friend.

The day seemed to pass quite quickly, and Alyce was glad. She wanted to ask Cho something private.

In the common room, the fire was blazing, and lots of people were doing their homework, and never seemed to want to go to bed.

Eventually, around 10:00pm the common room was empty, with only Alyce and Cho left.

Cho was smiling nervously, sitting on the closest sofa towards the fire.

Alyce sat in the armchair opposite. She seemed to be sitting in it like it was a throne.

"Well...er...what was it you wanted to ask me Alyce?" Cho asked, still nervous.

"Well, I wanted to ask you, its about Cedric," she said confidently.

"Oh,"

"I just wanted to know, well, did you actually, er, love him?"

"What is that supposed to mean?" Cho demanded, jumping off the sofa. "Why are you asking me this?"

"Because Cho, you are my best friend, and I can ask horrible things, things you would never want to remember, but I'm not. I...want to know," Alyce replied, her dark-blue eyes shining.

"What does it matter to you? He's dead Alyce. Dead. Gone, never to walk again, and it's really helping, that you're asking me if I loved him. I told you ages ago, so just in case you forgotten, no, I did not love him. I was heart-broken when he died, but so was everyone. When will you be satisfyed?" Cho was crying, but she didn't care. She was angry at Alyce, angry at her stupid question.

"Well, that shows how cold you really are! You were always the spoilt one, I remember last summer, you threw a tantrum when I was staying over at your house, because your dad wouldn't let you have wine at dinner! And when you weren't allowed to get a new Krup, (dog-like animal with a strange tail), you refused to leave your room!"

"What does that have to do with this? I'm not like..."

"Oh no, you were never like that Cho," interrupted Alyce. "You were always the sweet, and innocent one, who was everyone's favourite, but it seems I'm the only one who knows what you're really like: a cold, spoilt bitch!" she spat.

Alyce was halfway up the stairs when she said this, and slammed the dormitory door when she got there.

She undressed into a nightie, got into bed, and pulled the cord furiously so the hangings hid her from the world that had taken what she loved.

"My God has forsaken me," she whispered into herself, and lay down.

She didn't cry, she never cried. She did not even shed a tear for Cedric when he died.

Though somehow, she knew this day would come.
