Chapter 2: Best Friends and Enemies

"This is it. We've finally got her. She doesn't even know how much is riding on her."

"And were not going to tell her. Just finding out the truth about what she is will be traumatic enough. She doesn't need to who she is or what she's meant to do just yet."

Various unfamiliar voices filled her head like swirling leaves that you see pass but can't distinguish what color they were. Jenna was groggy and felt weak. She knew she couldn't stand; she didn't even have to try to know it. The voices kept talking. The sound was like pounding nails into tiny crevices of her brain. She was so confused she didn't bother to worry about the pain though; she just wanted to know who these people were.

Jenna slowly began to peel one eyelid open, but from the angle that she was lying on the floor she still saw nothing but feet. She then tried lifting the other lid and slightly tilting her head upward. What met her brought a horrifying scream to her lips. I decorative mirror burst behind her.

"UGH, I just fixed that!" One of the three figures before her sighed heavily before walking over to the mirror. Jenna noticed that it was a woman. The lady waved her hand in front of the shattered glass and was mumbling something. Jenna wasn't paying too much attention since her now very alert eyes were staring at the two very suspicious and very different men that towered over her. One was old with long gray hair and a silvery beard at least two feet long. His crystal blue eyes shone in a friendly manner. Jenna's fears were softened as he smiled at her.

But no sooner than they were calmed, they were brought back up with a vengeance at the sight of the dark haired man with the blackest eyes she'd seen. They peered into her own blue green peepers as though he were trying to burn her retinas. Instinctively she slammed her eyelids shut again.

"Miss Scott there is no reason to be scared. I know this must seem odd to you, with us showing up out of nowhere but we are not here to harm you in any way. We are here to help," the older man said gently in a very noticeable English accent. But Jenna didn't buy it.

"Not here to hurt me?! Yeah right! Everything was fine until you showed up! Then my head almost EXPLODED!"

"Please keep your voice down. I don't want to have to fix another mirror," the woman said in a frustrated tone. Jenna gave her a 'you gotta be kidding me look' before returning her attention to the blue-eyed giant.

"Look just get out of here alright or I'm gonna call the cops." The three adults flashed each other glances of amusement.

"I'm sorry, but we can't go yet. At least not without you. There is something we need to tell you." Jenna listened skeptically as they laid it all out onto the table. They explained about magic and her being a witch. They explained about her grandmother and the binding spell she placed on her. They explained about Hogwarts and what awaited her there. When they were finished she gave them a very blank look before blurting out, "What the hell have you been taking?" By now she had regained her strength and was heading towards the phone. But as soon as she picked it up, the dark haired man ripped it out of her hand and slammed it back down.

"There's no time for games young lady. We must get you to Hogwarts right away, you understand me?" His eyes sent her threatening messages.

"Whoa, calm down now, Severus. We must keep our cool. We don't want to frighten the girl," the woman said.

"A little late for that now isn't it!" Jenna bellowed. She was about to bolt towards the stairs, hoping to get to her room and lock the door, but the scary man, Severus, grabbed her arm. On habit she flung the arm he grasped outward. Shockingly, he went flying into the air and slammed up against the wall with a loud thud. Jenna just stood cemented to the floor with her mouth gapping open as he slowly picked himself up.

He scowled at her fiercely before crying, "Now do you believe in magic? Because you sure didn't do that on pure muscle. You are no Incredible Hulk!" Jenna leaned against the wall too taken aback to answer his question. But Dumbledore knew the answer. She was catching on. Time to move in for the kill.

"Miss Scott, you are a witch. But that doesn't mean anything bad. There are thousands of good witches so don't be frightened by the name. Now what you just did was magic, but a very unusual kind. Most magical people rely on spells, potions, and wands for power, but you seem to have a very pure form of magic. So pure that you can pull it from inside you without the aid of any of these tools I just mentioned. I'm not saying you can do everything freely, but you seem to be able to levitate objects by will as you just demonstrated on Severus. And the explosions of the glass and the water bottle appear to be by will as well. Or in most of the cases when you channel your energy into a scream. Other students have been known to make things explode prior to learning to control their power which most likely played apart in your case, but as I already said your power seems to come from another source."

"Wait. How did you know about the water bottle incident? Are you stalking me?" It was the first thing she had said in nearly ten minutes. Dumbledore smiled, apparently very happy that she was returning to her sarcastic taunting self.

"I have been watching you, but not like you think. I've been monitoring your magical actions through a crystal...er...seeing scope." He was wary to say crystal ball for fear that she might again think this was some prank. This arguing and explaining went on for what seemed like hours. The girl really gave the three Hogwarts professors a hard time, demanding all the proof they could give and then still refusing to believe it. Then her mother came home and everything had to be explained all over again. Luckily the mother was much more easy to convince and they were finally able to drag, and I almost literally drag, Jenna onto a plane to England. Dumbledore wanted to steer clear of Floo powder since he didn't want to expose her to too much so soon.

Harry sat in the hospital room quietly holding a warm towel to his head. Madame Pomfrey was puttering around like a mad woman. She had no idea what happened. While in the Gryffindor common room, Harry had collapsed again, screaming and thrashing in pain. Everyone had watched horror filled. All except Fred and George who started yelling that it was a sign that You-Know-Who was near by. They laughed with pleasure as the first years burst into tears. Harry had almost blacked out from the pain and couldn't walk. Ron and Hermione with the aid of Fred and George (who finally got serious when they saw Harry crying) carried Harry up to Madame Pomfrey.

Once he was a little less drowsy he tried to explain that it wasn't his scar; it must be a nasty headache, but Pomfrey didn't understand. She couldn't explain what it was. She had used a Frainpain Strip to try to identify what it was. A Frainpain Strip is a sturdy piece of paper covered in a potion that will tell you what disease you have by turning a specified color. But when she removed it from Harry's mouth it remained white indicating that nothing was wrong.

Harry felt his strength returning and was almost ready to just get up and leave. He didn't want Madame Pomfrey fussing over him any more. He was fine now. But she wouldn't let him go. "Not until I at least prescribe a potion in case it happens again," she had said. After trying to get a reading on one more Frainpain Strip, she finally scribbled something down on a slip of parchment and instructed him to go see Snape as soon as possible to retrieve it. She did not have this potion in her cupboards and therefore Professor Snape would have to make a fresh batch. Perfect, Harry thought. Just who I needed to see while recovering from a head wound. Harry obeyed though due to the fact that he never wanted to feel something like that again if he didn't have to.

Harry wondered if he should check the dungeon first or just go directly to Snape's office, but before he could make a decision a mass of people came flooding down the nearby staircase. It was dinner time and most of the students were on their way to the Great Hall. Realizing how hungry he was, he followed everyone, forgetting his potion.

Once inside the hall, Harry's ears were filled with the chatter of all the other kids. He smiled at the sight of all the food suddenly appearing on the four house tables. He turned towards the Gryffindor table and began searching it for Ron and Hermione. Then he came across her. The girl from the crystal ball. I forgot she was coming today. She sat near the end of the rectangular table all alone. There were a few empty seats around her. Remembering Dumbledore's pleas for him to be nice, Harry walked over and introduced himself.

"Hi, I'm Harry Potter. You must be the new girl."

"Gee, good eye. Cause there's tons of new female students from America," she said dryly. Harry stared at her for a second. Maybe she was joking around. He wasn't sure if it was just American humor or something. He gave a little laugh.

"Yeah, well I'm glad you were put into Gryffindor. It really is the best house. All the nicest people are here. You're lucky that you weren't put in Slytherin."

"Am I? Why because now I get to be graced with your presence? You're really full of yourself aren't you?" She narrowed her eyes at him. Funny, he thought, I remember them being blue green. They were now a grayish blue.

"I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to be. I was just trying to welcome you to our house and make you feel comfortable here."

"Yeah? Spare me. I don't need you or anyone else looking out for me. I can take care of myself." Harry was taken aback at her little outburst." I didn't even want to be here. They just told me yesterday that I was a ...whatever the hell I am. And then they expect me to uproot myself, move all the way to England, and leave my friends and family behind. And for what? To learn card tricks! I am not a witch. There is no such thing."

"Um... I know it's hard to believe, but witches do exist. And I'm sure you are one. All the girls here are."

"Thanks for the words of wisdom, Henry Porter, but I don't need your help. Didn't you hear me the first time? Geez, my whole life people have been trying to protect me and tell me what to do. My teachers, my parents. And apparently my Grandmother who bound my "powers". And now teachers are telling me that it's my destiny to be here, that I'm a witch. Well, I'll show them a real witch."

At that she knocked her plate to the floor and climbed onto the tabletop. Harry gapped at her in amazement. Everyone else began to take notice to the outrageous American. She saw she had their attention and took it as a chance to speak. "You English people are so boring. Geez, I think I need to show you how to have some fun. Musicandium!" (She had glanced at the spell book Dumbledore had given her on the plane ride and immediately picked this one out since she loved music. If magic was real then she'd want to know that one.) Music began to blare throughout the Great Hall. Hard thumping beats shook the plates on the table. Then Jenna opened her mouth and began to sing.

"Say hello to the girl that I am. You're gonna have to see through my perspective. I need to make mistakes just to learn who I am and I don't wanna be so damn protected." She then began to walk up the table, kicking plates out of the way causing the Gryffindors to be covered in slop. The Slytherins were howling with laughter. Harry saw Draco Malfoy for the first time that year and he was smirking the way Harry despised. Not able to look at him, Harry returned his attention to Jenna.

"There must be another way. 'Cause I believe in taking chances. But who am I to say what a girl is to do. God I need some answers...What am I to do with my life? You will find it out; don't worry. How am I supposed to know what's right? You just gotta do it our way. I can't help the way I feel. But my life has been so overprotected." She jumped off the table and stared dancing wildly in the aisles. She swung her hair and gave Harry a look to kill before continuing her song.

"I tell them what I like, what I want and what I don't. But every time I do, I stand corrected. Things that I've been told, I can't believe what I hear about the world and realize I'm overprotected." She was now sensuously swaying her hips. Harry couldn't help but feel slightly attracted to her at that moment. Malfoy seemed to feel the same way as she walked past him and brushed his cheek with her hand.

She then seemed to decide she liked the table better as she hopped back on, this time at the Slytherin table. She glared at the whole hall hatefully, like she resented them all for her being there. Finally she had enough. She swung her arms high into the air. All the food on the Slytherin table began to rise. Everyone was watching with wide eyes. As soon as the food was high enough, she made a swift motion with her arms and it all went sailing into the wall. It dripped down the silky curtains. Malfoy looked at her with intrigue as everyone gasped. But Jenna didn't stop; she only got more worked up.

"I don't need nobody telling me just what I wanna, what I want or what I'm gonna do about my destiny. I say no, no...nobody's telling me just what I wanna...do do. I'm so fed up with people telling me to be someone else but me!" The last word she screamed passionately and all the glass goblets burst to pieces. She jerked her hand out again causing the house banners to fly into the air and tangle with each other before falling to the floor. Then she waved her hand and brought all the candles in the room into the air and spun them around herself causing an awesome effect.

"There must be another way. 'Cause I believe in taking chances. But who am I to say what a girl is to do. God I need some answers... What am I to do with my life? You will find it out; don't worry. How am I supposed to know what's right? You just gotta do it our way. I can't help the way I feel. But my life has been so overprotected." Making one last hand motion she levitated all the plates in the room and with a frustrated scream, destroyed every last one. Then the music stopped.

The whole room was silent. Even the Professor Dumbledore sat dumbfounded. He hadn't expected this either. Malfoy looked like he had just won the Quidditch cup as he stared at Jenna. Harry figured Draco had just found his new best friend. And that meant that Harry had just found his new biggest enemy.

Author notes: The song Jenna sings is by Britney Spears off her most recent CD Britney. For purposes of the story, it is meant as a song Jenna made herself and describes her trapped feelings. Most chapters from now on will contain a song or poem, original or by someone famous. Hope you liked it! Thanks for reading!
