Chapter 2: Ron's Insecurity
The summer was coming! Everything promised to be great and wonderful. With all the plans made for the next two months the only thing left to do was enjoy it. Harry was coming to stay with them, and Hermione would be joining them in a little over a month. As everyone around him jabbered on in excitement on their way to the Burrow, Ron became lost in his own thoughts. He kept thinking to when Hermione would join them, getting more and more nervous every time he thought about it. What would he say when they saw each other again? How was he supposed to act? Was it mental to even think about telling someone who had been one of your best friends for almost six years that you were in love with them? For Ron now knew the truth of his jumbled up emotions that had been messing around with him since he was 12 years old. Twelve! Who would have thought that your emotions could start to go haywire at such a young age? Not Ronald Weasley!
It had all started to come together and make sense shortly after Halloween. They had been in the Common Room, studying as usual, when he looked up absentmindedly to ask a question about a Charms spell. What he saw, the last thing he expected to be staring at, was Hermione bent over her papers in concentration. Seeing her shouldn't have startled him, as he knew she was there, but he felt as if his heart had just jumped up into his throat and started to do a merry jig. As he sat there staring at her, it all became very clear; like a lightning bolt flashing in front of him. He loved Hermione Granger! As he swallowed convulsively, eyes bugging out of his head, she chose that moment to look up. She looked at funny, then asked him if she'd grown horns or something, the way he was looking at her. Ron, being the fair-skinned red head he was could not hide the heat rising up his neck, and into his face. Bloody hell! Even his ears were on fire! He mumbled something intelligible, swiped his hand across the back of his neck, and quickly bent his head back over his work.
From that moment on, Ron caught himself watching her more than usual. He noticed how soft and curly her beautiful brown hair was. He enjoyed looking into her eyes (when she didn't know, of course!), so beautiful a shade of his favorite Honeydukes chocolate. Her smile would light up the room like nothing else could, and she even looked beautiful when she was feeling argumentative (which was all the time!)!
He loved her so much it almost made him physically sick just to be near her. He wanted so bad to tell her how he felt, but every time he thought he had gotten up the courage to do it, his heart did that happy jig in his throat, and he lost his nerve. What if she didn't feel the same way? Or worse, what if she felt that way about someone else?! If he told her, would she laugh in his face, or would pity him? He did not dare to hope that she could ever feel the same. How could she? Every time he looked in the mirror he saw everything that, to him, did not make him an attractive package. Flaming red hair, pale blue colorless eyes, freckles galore, too long a nose, and his damned pale skin that always gave away his emotions by turning the color of his hair. But if he were to be truly honest with himself, his biggest hang-up was that unless he made and saved enough money after they finished school, he was afraid he wouldn't be able to support her as he felt she deserved. For if nothing else, one thing was certain........he wanted Hermione to be his wife! But could she ever love Him? And could she be patient to wait until he had some money saved up? He just didn't know. But he knew one thing for certain...........he WAS going to tell her when she came next month! He just wished he was as certain of the rest.........
"Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?"
To really love a woman
To understand her - you gotta know her deep inside
Hear evey thought - see every dream
And give her wings when she wants to fly
Then when you find yourself lying helpless in her arms
You know you really love a woman
When you love a woman you tell her that she's the one
'Cause she needs somebody to tell her that it's gonna last forever
So tell me have you ever really - really really ever loved a woman?
To really love a woman
Let her hold you - 'til you know how she needs to be touched
You've gotta breathe her - really taste her
'Til you can feel her in your blood
And when you can see your unborn children in her eyes
You know you really love a woman
When you love a woman you tell her that she's really wanted
When you love a woman you tell her that she's the one
'Cause she needs somebody to tell her that it's gonna last forever
So tell me have you ever really - really really ever loved a woman?
You got to give her some faith - hold her tight
A little tenderness - gotta treat her right
She will be there for you, taking good care of you
You really gotta love your woman..................
