Chapter 2: Wonders Embedded in Mind
Morning arrived rather quickly, he woke up about an hour before Ron would arrive.
Harry brought down his trunk, ate some breakfast then sat on his trunk and waited.
It was about thirty minutes until 7 when Aunt Petunia came strolling down the stairs and with a surprising smile on her face.
When was the last time I saw her smile like that? Harry thought, totally surprised.
She looked as if something was on her mind. Harry had been in a some what surprised trance as she began to speak to him.
"Harry, I was wondering... would you talk with me in the kitchen? I promise I won't make you cook this morning," Aunt Petunia had said with a rather surprising look on her face; a face that Harry wasn't used to.
Harry wondered what she would want to talk to him about, so he followed her into the kitchen.
"What's this about, Aunt Petunia?" Harry asked in a very questionable voice and with a troubled look on his face.
"Well, I wanted to talk to you about your mother, Lily. I was told that it was time to give you this," Aunt Petunia had said as she handed Harry a necklace.
"It was one of the things your mother wore on her wedding day. It was quite a wonderful place to see in your other world. The necklace is one of the first things that your father, James, gave to Lily. Keep it safe, a man by the name of Dumbledore wrote to me and told me to give it to you. I'm sorry I didn't give it to you earlier, but I thought now would have been a good of a time as any," Aunt Petunia said with a comforting voice.
Harry could get used to that voice any time.
"Thanks... Aunt Petunia? Why did you despise my mother so much?" Harry asked.
Aunt Petunia looked up from the frying pan with bacon in it and paused for a second and said," Harry, to be honest, it's mainly cause I too, wanted to be a witch, like your mother. When it came that day for her to go off, I was so happy, I almost thought that I was for sure that I 'd get a letter too, when I was old enough. But when that day came, I was very upset because I had not received a letter. Lily, even spoke to Dumbledore to see if there were some mistake, perhaps. But his answer was no, he said because I had despised her so much that was the reason why I didn't get to go." Aunt Petunia paused for a minute or two before she continued.
While Harry waited in silence for another or more of an answer, he thought, she actually wanted to go?
Before Aunt Petunia could continue, the doorbell rang.
Harry went to see to the door. It was Ron and Mr. Weasley.
He opened the door and let them in.
Aunt Petunia was standing in the background watching.
"Hullo Harry," Ron said.
"Hi Ron," Harry said looking at his best friend other than Hermione for almost 6 years now.
"Hullo Harry. Ready yet?" Mr. Weasley asked.
"Yes," Harry answered and then turned to Aunt Petunia.
"Harry, you don't have to say anything. I know I certainly have surprised you this morning by being nice to you and I bet your mother has probably turned in her grave by now, on account of I've never really treated you like you should have been treated. I'm sorry and when you return for the summer next year I'll have something more for you," Aunt Petunia said.
Harry, Ron, and Mr. Weasley looked at her with shock. And also another pair of eyes, standing nearby them watching her son and her sister have a decent conversation. She wanted so desperately to reach out to him but could only watch over him from a distance, like an angel. She was his guardian angel, or at least that's what she thought.
"Lily, leave him alone now. As you can see, he's safe," a voice said only to where she could hear.
"I know Siri but I wanted to see him. He reminds me so much of James. I just want to reach out and take him in my arms and never let go," Lily answered.
"Lily, let's go," Sirius said.
Lily nodded and disappeared from Petunia's household. Sirius followed in the same pattern.
"Well, I guess we'd better get going. Molly wants us home by at least supper time. If we don't want her to be upset at us for not making it then we'd better get going," Mr. Weasley said interrupting the weird eerie silence that followed Petunia's last words.
"Right, well good-bye Harry," Petunia said.
"Good-bye Aunt Petunia," Harry said.
Harry picked up his trunks, along with Hedwig in her cage and went out the door.
A couple of minutes along the road in the car Ron started to speak.
"Uh, Harry? I'm not sure what just happened but uh... what did just happen?"
"I don't really know myself. One minute I'm downstairs enjoying the quiet and the next she's strolling down the stairs with a smile that I never thought I'd see. She gave me my mother's necklace. The one my mother wore in her wedding. Aunt Petunia said that my dad gave it to her," Harry said.
"Harry, was that the first time she'd ever been that nice to you?" Mr. Weasley asked.
"It's the first that I know of," Harry said.
A couple of hours passed. They were close to the Burrow but still had a few hours to go.
"Mr. Weasley?" Harry asked.
"Yes and call me Arthur please," Arthur said.
"Sure ok, well, Arthur is there something that I'm supposed to know about my parents that I don't know already?" Harry asked.
"What do you mean Harry?"
"Well, I got a letter from Sirius the other day, and it was one of his that he'd previous-
"A deminsity letter," Arthur interrupted.
"A what?" Ron asked.
"A deminsity letter, it's a letter that someone, like Sirius, has chosen to write before a time comes to where he'd would literally wouldn't be able to write anymore, like in Sirius's case, meaning being dead," Arthur said.
"He included my mother's wedding ring. And then this morning Aunt Petunia gave me my mother's necklace. Both of which, she wore on her wedding day. I was wondering, should this be leading up to something?" Harry asked.
"That's a good question Harry but for one, I really don't know and for two, even if I did know the answer to that I wouldn't be able to tell you. Do you understand what I'm saying?" Arthur asked.
"Yes I think I do," Harry said.
Arthur looked in his rear view mirror and looked at Harry. Ron had been right; Harry really does need to know more about his parents. He knew the answer to Harry's question but simply couldn't say anything to him about it. He'd made a promise to Lily long ago and he couldn't find himself to face up to his promise to her. It pained him to see Harry like this.
Lily watched from behind. Seeing Arthur's face as he remembered his promise to her, reminded her of that very promise. She knew it very well too. She was the one who forced him to promise her the truth.
Lily then looked over at her son. She looked directly into his eyes. His eyes were very precisely hers, no mistake about it; she could clearly see that even his hair could be linked to being James' son. James... Harry was a reflection of his father. She saw sadness take over him as his thoughts were rambling about. She knew that look. James always had it when he was lost. He'd always get lost in his own thoughts. No one really could ever manage to get him to come back to reality when this happened, that is before Lily broke that barrier with a kiss. She memorized his looks and what they usually meant. Harry, if she wasn't mistaken, had those same qualities. She knew then that soon, would he find the truth he rightfully deserved. She knew then that Harry's mind had been embedded with questions and some even without answers.
