Chapter 5

Ginny woke up on Monday morning, early. She felt nervous even though she had no classes with Malfoy. She sighed, she didn't know what to expect with this relationship with him.

She got dressed with her robes and put her hair in a high ponytail. She went downstairs and met Ron.

Seeing Ron made Ginny gasp.

"What happened?" he asked her.

Ginny shook her head and continued on her way. She couldn't imagine what Ron or either of her brothers would do when they saw her affiliating with a Malfoy, one of their enemies.

Ginny sat down to breakfast beside Harry and Hermione and picked at her breakfast. She really didn't feel like eating so she got up and walked slowly to her class, wanting to get there early.

She reached her DADA class and waited patiently for the bell to ring. It was another ten minutes so she took out her book and started to read.

She felt a tap on her shoulder so she turned around and saw Malfoy looking at her.

"Yes?" she asked, wearily.

He looked at her for a few seconds. He wore his black and green school robes, with his blond hair gelled back.

"I just want to tell you the way it's going to work," he said.

"What's going to work?" she asked.

"Our relationship," he said, his cool eyes resting on her.

Ginny gulped and then nodded. "Go on."

"Every morning, we'll eat our meals at our house tables and then at lunch we'll meet outside. After the afternoon classes, we'll meet again inside, anywhere and the same thing after dinner. Is that clear?" he said.

Ginny nodded. "But where are we going to meet?"

He ran a hand through his hair and thought, "In the library, anywhere. We'll decide later."

She nodded and then said, "So where are we meeting after lunch?"

"I'll let you know later," he said.

"All right," she said squirming under his cool gaze again. Her stomach flipped and she waited for him to say something.

He slightly smirked and then said, "I'd like you to call me by my first name, Ginny."

Ginny bit her lip and then said, "Whatever you want, Draco."

He smirked again and then left without another word.

Ginny clutched her heart and took a deep breath. She was so scared someone was going find them and tell her brother.

The bell rang and Ginny entered the class. The whole morning, Ginny's mind wandered and she fidgeted. She didn't know what to expect from Malfoy, rather Draco, but she wanted to be prepared.

She ate her lunch quickly and then left the Great Hall. She continued being anxious and didn't even notice someone calling her name.

Someone clapped a hand on her shoulder and Ginny screamed.

She turned around only to find her friends standing behind her.

"Where happened, Ginny?" asked Luna, concerned.

Ginny gasped and said, "Nothing, you just startled me."

"We've been calling your name for the past ten minutes," said Padma.

"Yeah, and you weren't even paying attention in class. You would just jump up and head to the next class without waiting for us," said Sam. "What's up?"

Ginny was facing the direction of the doors of the Great Hall, so she saw Draco waiting patiently behind her friends. He had one eyebrow raised and a smile seemed to be playing on his lips.

Ginny looked away and said, "Nothing, I'm sorry. I've gotta go now and study."

"Where?" asked Padma.

"Um, outside. I really don't feel like talking to anyone," said Ginny. "I feel like being alone."

They nodded and let her go.

Ginny shifted her book bag on her shoulder and continued. She decided to sit by the tree where Draco had cornered her. It was out of the way and it was large, so two people could sit comfortably without anyone seeing who was sitting there.

Ginny turned the corner and found Draco Malfoy already sitting there, waiting for her.

"How'd you get here so fast?" she asked.

He shrugged, "I have my ways."

Ginny sat down next to him, but left some space. "So?" she said.

"So what?"

"What am I supposed to do here?" she asked.

"Just relax and hang out," he said.

Ginny was weary, so she just opened her bag and got out her homework. She took out her quills and began doing her homework, ignoring him completely.

She looked up to see him doing his homework. He saw her looking at her so he looked up and said, "What?"

Ginny shook her head and said, "Nothing." Then she looked back down and continued writing her essay.

He smirked and said, "That was rather funny with your friends."

Ginny looked up and found him half smiling. She found herself saying, "Yeah, well I didn't hear them calling me and then they started asking all these questions."

He nodded and said, "heard them saying your name and I saw you totally ignoring them. I heard you scream too, it was really loud." He smirked.

Ginny shrugged "Well they scared me."

He nodded and they continued doing their homework for another ten minutes.

Ginny had finished her day's homework, so she started studying for the exams.

She looked up and found Draco studying her.

"What?" she demanded.

He smirked and said, "Nothing. Just thinking what I'm going to do with that spell on my wand."

Ginny paid him no heed and switched the subject, "Where are your friends?"

He shrugged, "Like I could care less."

"Did you tell them you were coming here?" she asked.

"No, I didn't tell anyone. Did you?"

Ginny shook her head no.

"Well, don't tell anyone," he said.

Ginny nodded and finished studying.

They returned to their classes, after lunch and after dinner they met again.

This time, they met in the library to do their homework and to study.

Ginny had selectively picked a table behind a large bookshelf where not many people went up to.

"You're a lot like Granger," he said. "Always in the library."

Ginny was still uneasy about being around Draco, but she was getting used to it. Even though he had said he loved her, he hadn't done anything err...loving yet. Ginny was relieved but she expected him to mock her, but he just talked to her.

"That's not true, you know," she said. "I'm only in the library when I need to do my homework quietly."

"Right," he said.

Ginny finished her work and then they both went their separate ways. Over the next week, Ginny spent a lot of time with Draco. In the beginning she felt it was strange but as the days went on, she actually was okay with his company. He still annoyed her and made comments similar to the going to the library like Hermione comment, but he was ok sometimes as well.

The next Saturday, they were sitting underneath 'their' tree. Ginny was reading a book while Draco wrote a letter to his mother.

The plan is advancing well, mother, he wrote. Weasley has no idea what I'm up to and she has fallen into the trap nicely. I'll be moving into Phase 3 soon, which you are very well aware of.

He looked up at her and saw her biting her lip as she read. He smirked; he noticed she did that whenever she was nervous or feeling anxious. He thought of all the times he had made fun of her. She was always rather quiet and let her friends insult him back. She was always small and had reddish orange hair with a bunch of freckles sprinkled on her nose. But now, she looked different he noticed. Her hair hung down her back in think waves. She usually tied it back in a ponytail but today it was tied back in a bun. He thought she looked more mature that way.

Ginny stopped biting her lip and smiled. She always loved when Artemis and Holly fought; it was so clever.

"Hey Weasley," he said.

"Mmm?" she looked up.

"What are you doing next weekend?" he asked.

She flipped the page and looked up. "Nothing, why?"

"There's some trip to Hogsmeade tomorrow, do you want to go?"

Ginny shrugged and said, "Doesn't matter. Do you?"

"Maybe we need to get out of Hogwarts. God knows how much studying you've been doing."

"I haven't been studying!" she shouted.

"What were you doing ten minutes ago, for an hour?" he asked with his classic smirk.

"I was...studying?" she asked.

He smirked, "Yes, you were studying."

She laughed said, "Sure, I'll go."

"Good, now ..." He stopped abruptly.

"What happened?" she asked.

He clapped a hand over her mouth and put a finger to his lips. Voices were making their way to them, and by the sounds of it, it sounded like Potty, Weasley and Granger.

He grabbed her hand and led her behind some bushes. They saw Harry, Ron and Hermione walk around the corner past the tree.

"There's a tree around here that's perfect to study under..." they heard Hermione's voice say.

"Oh, but someone's stuff is here," said Harry.

Ginny smacked her forehead. She had forgotten her things in the haste and her brother was probably going to realize they were hers along with Malfoy's things.

"Hey, that looks like the book Ginny was reading this morning," came Ron's voice.

"Ginny couldn't be here though. This is some Slytherin's cape," said Harry. "It was probably someone else. Let's go look for somewhere else."

Their voices travelled farther away, until all they heard Ron murmur, "Do you think my Weasley jumper makes me look fat..."

They slowly slipped back to the tree and sat back down.

"Phew," said Ginny. "That was close."

"Damn right," muttered Draco.

Ginny studied him, "What's wrong?"

He shook his head and said, "I've got to go. See you around." Then he picked his things up and left.

Ginny stared after him, with her forehead wrinkled. This was new; he had never just suddenly left. They practically spent every moment that wasn't in class and not at night, together.

She shrugged it off and went to her common room. She finished her book and then was bored. She had been spending so much time with Draco, that when she wasn't with him, she was bored.

Great, thought Ginny, now I'm attached to him.

She went to dinner and saw him there. He caught her eye and smirked at her.

She raised her eyebrow at him, as if questioning what had happened. He shook his head ever so slightly and didn't do anything else.

After dinner, she met him in the Astronomy tower. He was already there, as usual, when she walked up to him.

"Hey," she said, softly. "What happened before? Why'd you just leave?"

His grey eyes were serious, "I had to do something important."

"Oh," she said. She didn't know what else to say. It had never occurred to her that he might be keeping something from her.

He pulled her towards him but didn't say anything else.

"I'm sorry about your father, Draco," she said. "I only read about it today, even though it's been a week."

He shrugged, "It doesn't make any difference."

"Why doesn't it?" she asked him. "He was your father after all."

"I don't feel like talking about it," he said.

Ginny didn't say anything else but she felt strange, standing so close to him.

"So, where are we meeting tomorrow?" he asked.

She shrugged, "Doesn't matter. Wherever you want, as long as Ron and the others don't see us."

He nodded and said, "We'll just meet up in some odd shop, that way none of your or my friends will see us together."

"How about Mary Milksop's teashop?" she asked. "No one goes there 'cause it's way to expensive."

"Sure," he said. "I've got to go now though. Crabbe and Goyle will be waking up now."

Ginny laughed and said, "All right."

The he leaned down and kissed her on the lips. It was brief but sweet.

Then he winked at her and left her alone under the stars.

He made his way to his common room. He smirked; the plan was going quite well. It was almost too good. She seemed in love with him already and tomorrow he would get to spend a whole day with her, manipulating her.

Ginny slowly, but surely made her way to the Gryffindor common room. Her plan was going well now. She didn't think she had made any progress with him when he suddenly disappeared and was didn't feel like talking about his father. But when he kissed her and then winked at her, she felt like maybe, he might be in love with her after all.

Even though it was just a game, Ginny felt strangely good about it all. She loved having the secret to keep and felt smiling to herself, when she thought of her secret.

But as soon as she thought of Ron and her brothers, her stomach would flip imagining the flipping out her brothers and mother would do.

She tried not to think about it. Instead she turned her attention to the next part of her plan, which was acting as if she was really in love with him. She wrinkled her nose when thinking of the prospect of them snogging, but then she remembered the kiss so she smiled and hugged the secret to herself.
