"So, you wave your wand like this," Hermione demonstrated the movement to Harry, "and you say 'Lingfa Tormanta!' And your quill should start dancing..."
"Lingfa Tormanta! Aaargh!" Instead of his quill starting to dance, it had grown to 20 times it's normal size!
"Okay, that was not supposed to happen..." Hermione mumbled some words under her breath and the quill was no longer in danger of breaking the table.
"Hi Harry, Hermione..." said Seamus slyly.
"Uh, whatever Seamus," replied Harry, looking puzzled at Seamus' tone of voice. Seamus jumped through the portrait hole, followed by Dean, Lavender, Parvati, Neville, and Ginny.
"Where's Ron?" asked Hermione looking round.
"Major grump," replied Ginny just before she walked out of sight. Hermione nodded.
"Okay," said Hermione, wrapping her arms around Harry and holding is right wrist. "You say the words, I'll move the wand."
"Er, Lingfa Tormanta!" cried Harry, distracted by Hermione, with her arms around him. Hermione swished the wand, and the quill began to dance. Hermione dropped her arms, and Harry turned to face her.
"Hermione..." he began.
"Er, well done Harry! I don't think you'll have any problems now!" Hermione squeaked, bright red, before running out of the portrait hole.
"Great," Harry mumbled to himself. "You really blew that, Potter."
Later on Harry stormed into his dormitory. He was still angry with himself, and seeing Ron angry too, didn't help his mood.
"Can you go somewhere else Ron? I need to think," asked Harry.
"You're not the only one, 'Boy Wonder'," replied Ron scathingly.
"What was that for?" Harry was confused.
"You know," growled Ron as he stormed out of the room.
Harry looked after his friend in disbelief, before pushing it out of his mind and flopping down onto the bed. He really did need to think.
"Hermione!" yelled Ron as he stormed into the common room, after leaving Harry.
"Yes?" said Hermione, looking fairly surprised as she tore her eyes away from an Arithmancy problem.
"Will you just get together with Harry?!"
"I don't think that's any of your business!" replied Hermione in a shrill voice, her face bright red as she stood up, and her arms folded across her chest defiantly.
"It's my business if it's driving me to insanity!"
"Don't think you need any help there Ron," added a quiet voice from behind.
"Who included you in this conversation Seamus?!" Ron yelled, going an interesting shade of purple.
"Ron, the whole room can hear!" replied Dean. Ron turned away, back to Hermione, shaking his head.
"Please just ask him out! I know you like him!" by now Ron was reduced to pleading.
"As a matter of fact, we already are 'going out'," she said in a low voice.
"What???" Ron whispered. Suddenly, a flash of movement out of the corner of Hermione's eye caught her attention.
"Harry..." Hermione whispered. Her face went white, and she turned to go.
"Hermione!" called Harry. Hermione half turned, resisting the urge to flee.
"Hermione! I'm sorry, about our fight, I want to get together again..." by now Harry was right in front of Hermione. He leaned forward, and kissed her on the mouth. Hermione, taken aback, tried to pull away, but Harry put his hand on her neck and drew her back in. She relented, living for the moment.
"Woohooo!" The two were interrupted, brought back to the present, when Dean and Seamus catcalled, while most of Gryffindor Tower clapped. Ron sat on the floor, his mouth wide open.
"I - I - How - you two - when..." Ron trailed off and fell silent.
"Let's get out of here," Harry whispered into Hermione's ear. She grinned, and headed for the portrait hole, with Harry close behind. As they disappeared, chatter buzzed angrily, no doubt formulating stories about why the kiss happened.
"We'll be the talk of the school by this evening!" said Harry, a twinkle in his eye. Hermione grinned weakly.
"Sorry for telling Ron, we were going steady..." Hermione trailed off, hoping Harry hadn't just been playing along. "And good cover," she added lamely when Harry was still silent. Harry smiled, but Hermione couldn't see because she had hung her head.
"Hermione, I, I like you. Will you go out with me?" Harry asked nervously. Hermione looked up, a broad smile on her face, lighting up her features.
"Of course. After all, technically we already are," she grinned and leaned in, kissing Harry on the lips.
