Chapter Twelve

"Hermione?" Hermione heard a voice call out. The voice seemed so far away, but she saw the outline of a figure kneeling next to her.

"Ron?" she whispered, guessing.

"Ron went to get Madame Pomfrey. You'll be okay. Just hold on," the mysterious voice told her. She nodded slightly and tried to stay awake as everything went black again.

*~*~*~*~*

Hermione heard whispering coming from someone next to her. "Wake up, Hermione, be okay, please."

Her hand felt really warm as someone continued holding it and caressing it with their thumb.

Hermione slowly opened her eyes and blinked to correct her vision. She stared up a very pale Harry who looked on the verge of tears.

"Harry..." she whispered quietly.

Harry immediately jumped, but smiled when he realized Hermione was awake. "Madame Pomfrey!" Harry called.

Madame Pomfrey rushed in yelling, "What in the good Lord's name is it, Mr. Potter?" She looked down at Hermione and smiled. "Thank goodness you're awake. You had quite a nasty fall."

Hermione sat quietly as Madame Pomfrey checked over her, making sure there was no permanent damage.

"All is well," she told Hermione and then turned to Harry. "I'll give you a note for Professor McGonagall." She hurried out of the room to grab a piece of parchment.

"Ron and I were so worried about you," Harry said as he bent over to give Hermione a hug. "Well, I had better get to class. I'll tell Ron you're okay."

Harry walked toward Madame Pomfrey's office to receive his note, and Hermione smiled. He hugged her!

Hermione picked up a textbook sitting on her bedside table and opened it.

Slam!

Hermione jumped and stared at the corridor where the door was located. She leaned out of her bed to try to see what was making so much noise.

"Mr. Weasley! I must ask you to return to class!" Hermione heard Madame Pomfrey wail.

"Ron?" Hermione whispered to herself.

"Madame Pomfrey, I need to see Hermione! Please!" Ron begged.

"Very well then."

Just then, Ron ran around the corner, toward Hermione's bed. Hermione tried to get out of bed and Ron said, "Hermione, don't."

He ran toward her bedside and scooped her up into his arms. "I'm so sorry Hermione, for everything I said. I don't know what I'd do if anything ever happened to you," he whispered in her ear.

They broke apart and something twinkled on Ron's face as the light hit it. "Ron? Are you... crying?" Hermione asked cautiously.

Ron turned toward her and nodded slightly. "I was just scared. You were unconscious and it was entirely my fault. I didn't know what to do."

Hermione pulled him into a hug and he said, "I don't know what I'd do if I lost you."

*~*~*~*~*

Madame Pomfrey shooed Ron out of the hospital wing before Dumbledore entered the hospital wing. "Well, it's good to see you awake," he said. "We all were very worried about you. You took quite a fall on those stairs; hit your head quite hard. Madame Pomfrey mended that quite easily, but when you didn't wake up, we were quite worried. I notified your parents about two weeks ago-"

"I'VE BEEN UNCONCIOUS FOR HOW LONG?" Hermione screamed. "I've missed everything!"

"Relax, my dear, I dare say your friend, Mr. Weasley, has been getting all of your homework for you. I think I even saw him taking notes when I looked in on his class. For now, you just get some rest."

Hermione nodded as Dumbledore headed for the door. She heard the door slam shut and Hermione closed her eyes. Two weeks? How could she have been out of classes for two weeks? This was just like second year. She had missed classes for being transformed into a cat and then when she was petrified. How would she catch up? This was her N.E.W.T.s year!

Hermione leaned back, realizing that the sooner she got rest, the sooner she could get back to class. Hermione yawned and drifted to sleep.
