Chapter One

"Where's that book?" Hermione asked herself as she packed for seventh and final year at Hogwarts. "Accio book!" Hermione declared. The book immediately flew off the bookshelf and into her extended hand.

"There, I think I have-"

"Hermione! We need to leave now if you want to make the train," Mrs. Granger yelled up the stairs.

Hermione rolled her eyes as she locked her trunk. "Daddy!" Hermione called. "Can you grab my trunk?"

Sure, sweet pea," Mr. Granger answered stepping inside Hermione's bedroom.

Hermione kissed her father as she dashed past him, down the stairs, and into the tidy kitchen. Hermione quickly grabbed something to eat for breakfast.

She grabbed a slice of bread from the breadbox and shoved it into the toaster. As she waited for the toast to finish, Hermione realized that soon she wouldn't have to worry about making her meals or her bed or cleaning up after herself. However, Hermione felt a bit guilty when she thought about the poor, house elves doing all of the work.

"Hermione!" Mrs. Granger shrieked when she walked into the kitchen.

Hermione instantly jerked back to reality where smoke was leaking out of the toaster. Mrs. Granger grabbed the plug on the now broken toaster and threw open the kitchen window, while waving smoke out.

After the kitchen was safe again, Hermione seized the broken toaster from the dustbin to give to Mr. Weasley for his collection. Hermione quickly ran out into the car where her parents were waiting to leave.

"Now, honey," her father started as they drove toward London. "Your mother believes we have no need to talk to you about this, but the fact is, we do."

Hermione glanced uneasily from her mother to her father several times.

"Well, I know you may start to get more, well, intimate with boys," he stated. Hermione felt a little nervous. She looked down. Her father had just read her mind. Hermione listened as her father continued, "I also know, you may be inclined to do things that could get you in trouble." Hermione's heart stopped. How could her father know this?

Hermione remembered last Christmas when Ron kissed her under the mistletoe. Although Ron and Hermione both agreed not to mention it, Hermione often thought whenever she got the chance. Until that night, Hermione never realized how she felt about Ron, but now she felt different when she was with him.

Harry had just explained to Hermione, after four months of dating, that he would rather just be friends. Hermione was heartbroken and went straight to Ron. Ron lent her a shoulder to cry on the entire night. After kissing, Hermione spent the night in the broom closet in Ron's arms.

"Hermione? Are you listening to me?" Mr. Granger snapped.

"What? Oh, yes," Hermione answered.

"I just don't want you to do anything you're going to regret," her father continued, rather awkwardly. "Promise me you'll make good decisions."

'Of course I will, Daddy," Hermione responded as her father pulled into an empty parking space at the station.
