CHAPTER 6

The three Gryffindor students fell on top of each other as they arrived at Durmstrang. Just one look up and Harry knew that they were in the dungeon.

In the dungeon? How could we be in the dungeon? I thought that we would have been in the Great Hall or in a dormitory common room! Harry thought.

“Harry! Look straight ahead! There is a door that is open, and it looks like there may be something inside!” Ron whispered loudly. “If Hermione is here, do you think that she could be in that chamber?”

“Yeah, it looks like something is moving around in there. Should we go in?” Ginny asked.

Harry didn’t know how to answer this question. He wanted to save Hermione if she was in there, but if there were other people in there besides her, he didn’t want to risk anyone’s life.

After a long pause, Harry finally answered, “I think that we should just go up to the door and look in. Don’t actually go in, who knows who or what could be guarding the room.”

Harry then remembered that he had his Invisibility Cloak in his backpack. The three of them could go inside without anyone seeing them.

“Change of plans, we’re all going inside. I have my Invisibility Cloak, so we can go in without being seen,” Harry said firmly.

“Harry! That’s a great idea! I’m glad you remembered to grab your cloak!” Ginny said dreamily.

Harry took off his backpack and pulled out his father’s cloak. He wrapped it around everyone and they started to walk forward.

When they reached the door, Harry reminded them to watch their step so they don’t trip, and to try to not breathe loudly.

They stepped through the door opening, and the first person they saw almost made Harry yell out in rage. It was Malfoy.

CHAPTER 7

Draco wanted to run out of the chamber when he saw Hermione locked up in a cast iron cage. He couldn’t help staring at his precious Hermione. She looked so sad and scared sitting on a cold rock slab with iron bars surrounding her.

Elin’s voice broke the eerie silence. “Master Malfoy, this is where I leave you. You may deal with the prisoner as you wish. As for the spells and enchantments guarding this room, they will reset themselves in exactly one hour.”

Draco nodded to Elin and Elin walked noisily out of the room. When Draco knew that Elin was far enough away, he ran to the cage and kneeled in front of it.

“Hermione! Are you okay? I’m so sorry about this, I’ll get you out, I promise!” Draco said quickly.

“Malfoy?” Hermione said as if she was just waken up.

“Hermione, this is all my father’s fault. He hates you and your family and he knows that he can’t hurt you at Hogwarts, so he had the big ugly guy kidnap you and bring you here so we could kill you,” Draco answered.

Hermione sat up straight at the sound of the word “kill." “Kill me? You are going to help them kill me?”

“No, Hermione. I have no intentions of killing you. I’m going to get you out of here, and I don’t care what it takes,” Draco replied.

“Wait a minute. Something is wrong here. Draco Malfoy doesn’t want to kill someone that he hates, especially a Mudblood?” Just saying the word “Mudblood” made Hermione upset. “I don’t believe you for one minute. You are a mean, nasty boy and I can’t believe that you would come in here and lie to me like that!”

“Hermione, please, believe me. I’m not lying. I really like you,” Draco said. He could feel his cheeks getting hot.

“You like me?” Hermione said in a soft voice. “I didn’t think that was possible.”

“Well, it is. I’ve liked you for some time now, but as a Malfoy, I have to maintain a certain image,” Draco said as he got closer to the cage.

“Oh, Draco...” Hermione’s voice trailed off. This was the first time that Draco had ever heard Hermione call him by his first name.

“How are you going to get me out?” she finally asked.

Draco didn’t have an answer.
