CHAPTER 10

Draco walked quickly over to the Slytherin table and pounded his fist on the table as he sat down. Denna was following close behind and took the seat next to Draco.

“I could have handled that myself,” Denna said, avoiding eye contact with Draco.

“I always enjoy a good argument with the Mudblood,” Draco replied, taking a bite of toast.

Denna looked at Draco with a puzzled look. “If you enjoyed making that little scene, then why did you pound your fist on the table just a moment ago?”

Draco swallowed and turned to face Denna. “Last year, with Umbridge, I would have gotten away with taking all those points away from Gryffindor. But now, prefects can’t take points away. A completely stupid rule, if you ask me. It was better when prefects could take away points.”

“So you’re telling me that we sat there and fought about something that wasn’t going to happen??” Denna said.

“Yeah, pretty much,” Draco said as he turned back to his toast.

Denna rolled her eyes. “Draco, I don’t know how you managed to get along without me all these years!”

Draco tried to hide his smile. “It wasn’t easy, that’s the truth.”

Denna sighed loudly and took a sip of her juice. “Well, I was trying to talk to Harry before that whole mess happened, so now I need to think up a way to get him by himself so we can talk.”

Draco looked over at Denna. “Alone?”

“Yes, alone. It’ll make him feel more comfortable around me. Also, it’ll give his little friends a reason to be mad at him. Did you see his cheek? I can almost bet that the Weasley boy smacked him.”

Draco snorted. “I honestly don’t think that Weasley could pull of a shot like that. I bet it was Granger, I know from experience how she hits.”
Denna almost choked on her juice as Draco said this. “That Mudblood GIRL hit you?!?”

“Yeah, she did, third year. Left a rather nice bruise, as well,” Draco answered.

Denna stared at Draco for several moments before she spoke. “I’m in shock, Draco, I really am.”

Draco smiled widely, then suddenly went back into his traditional frown when he saw Pansy walk over.

“Hi, Draco!” she squealed as she put her hand on his shoulder. Denna shook her head and continued to eat her breakfast.

Draco reached up and removed Pansy’s hand from his shoulder.

“Don’t touch me, Parkinson,” Draco said fiercely.

“Oh, come on Draco, you’re not going to melt!” Pansy said with a giggle.

“How do you know? Maybe he will! I’ve seen boys die from being contaminated by unclean girls,” Denna chimed in.

Pansy turned white with fright, and then began to cry.

“I’m sorry, Draco! I don’t want you to die! I’m going to the hospital wing right now to get properly disinfected!” Pansy said and then quickly left the Great Hall.

Draco shook his head. “My dear sister, you have successfully mastered the art of lying. I thought she was going to wet herself!”

Denna laughed. “You clearly didn’t want her here, so I got her to leave! She’s in my dormitory room, so I got to have a chat with her last night. I pretty much figured that she was ditzy and that she would buy into anything I said.”

Draco laughed. “True. Now, enough about Parkinson, what are you going to do about Potter?”

Denna played with her fork as she pondered this question. “I think I am just going to go up to him and ask to talk to him alone. I think that he likes me enough to where he would actually come along.” Denna stood up and looked at Draco.

“Good luck, although I don’t think that you’ll need it!” Draco said.

Denna smiled back at Draco and walked over to the Gryffindor table.

“Hi, Harry,” she said calmly as she reached where Harry and his friends we sitting.

“What are you doing over here, Malfoy?” Ron growled.

“First, my name is Denna. Second, I came over to talk to Harry,” Denna replied.

It’s okay, Ron, Harry mouthed to Ron and then turned to Denna.

“Hi, Denna,” Harry said with a small smile.

“I know this is kind of weird, but could we go somewhere to talk alone?”

The color fell from Harry’s face. Talking to Denna in a group was one thing, but to go somewhere alone with her was a bit frightening.

“Er, um..” was all that Harry managed to force out.

Denna laughed. “I’ll take that as a yes,” she leaned over to whisper in Harry’s ear. “Meet me in the library at lunch. We’ll talk then,”

Harry nodded and as Denna walked away, his scar began to burn again.

Maybe I shouldn’t meet her in the library, Harry thought as he rubbed his hand over his scar.
